  3. Congrats on the Kingie mate!
  4. The spit bridge is worth a try, has never failed me yet. Good luck
  5. Thanks for the tips, will give it a go soon
  6. Soooooooooooooooooo Jealous!
  7. What sort of depths have you all caught bream/flattys with these? I've used the AO6E around some rocky areas in Sydney with no result. Have a bought the wrong one? am i trying it in water too deep (2-5m) or was lady luck not with me? (I left the tail on..does it make that much of a difference) Cheers
  8. Just to add to everyones comments.. try searching for techniques in sydney on the web and when you are out watch where other boats (that look like they know what they are doing) are going and what they are doing. Serious fishos will not give out their exact locations and techniques because it spreads around and ruins it for them. You will pick things up quickly just be patient and aware of small things you see on the water like birds etc.
  9. Hi, many people will not be so keen to list exact spots but what i found helpful when i got into the sport was reading posts to find which spots were going well..try looking at pictures for ideas etc. In the Harbour the obvious spots are Clifton Gardens, Sow and Pigs, sometimes Chowder Head or many of the markers and moorings in middle harbour..the yellow marker at old mans hat is popular for kings etc but not at night. Obviously no one can promise any location will deliver on any given day but theres a few to consider. Good luck.
  10. i've caught all my kings on really fresh squid. They love it. try the markers around the harbour or any structures in general. They seem to hit it harder if the squid has a head, often i've found they smash the head off then just nibble at the body until you get a new squid on. Good luck.
  11. I have a 4m tinny on a trailer that weighs 125kg.
  12. Hi, i used to make that trip up and down cowan quite frequently...all you need to do is familiarise yourself with the waterway during the day, remember where all the markers are in relation to it (it will come naturally) and at night you should be fine. Usually the moon gives pleanty of light to see the landforms but on occasions it can be very hard due to cloud, rain or low light from the moon. Once you know your way around all you need is 9v dolphin (well thats what i use) to check when you feel too close to the banks. I've only used a spotlight once and i found that it destroyed my night-vision and you have to wait for your eyes to re-adjust to the darkness until you can see well again. Also in heavy fog, spot-lights (in my experience) are useless..thats when it gets hard as its often impossible to even see the markers. I once waited at ATB for 2 hours till i could see only 20m in front of me. Hope that helps.
  13. Thanks for the advise, will defiantly be changing to the snell rig permanently. I have used a snell rig with a treble at the bottom before but didn't notice the difference. It was only once though so i cant judge. And yes i was surprised too with the squid considering how dirty the water was. Are squid much harder to get during the colder months? I hear in winter there aren't as many rats and even though the kings are less frequent they are generally a better size? True? Anyway I'm assuming i need squid for either kings or jews so are there any techniques out there when squidding in winter months (if it makes any difference)
  14. Launched from Roseville at 4am with a mate and it was straight off to the spit for some squid. We managed only 5.. probably due to the dirty rain water. We planned on having a short day so headed straight over to our favourite marker in the harbour and after a few casts had a small but strong +/- 60cm king on.. after a short fight i got it to the boat but somehow it got off..i wasnt too pleased. Anyway they were fairly quiet there so we moved off too some other structures where i got a leatherjacket and hooked up another 60ish cm king.. this one fought even harder but again busted me off (i had run short of the gangs i usually use and was forced to put on some dodgey ones which didnt seem to stay in the fish too well ) After that the 25knt southerly had picked up so we headed home (as it wasnt too comfortable in my 4m tinny which was now out of bait). All in all a decent day.. would have liked to land one of the kings but given the circumstances it still beats a day at work/uni.
  15. thanks for all the help, will defiantly have to check out those bream!
  16. Hi all, i plan on going up to Port Stephens/Nelson Bay over easter and will most likely take my boat up. Can anyone give me some tips or locations that hold some good fish up there? My boats just a tinny so nothing offshore unfortunately. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  17. i have a 4m tinny and have been out in pretty choppy weather.. its not dangerous but be prepared to get a bit wet and bumped around (depending on how fast you go etc) good luck with your decision
  18. Didnt see any action on the surface or sharks the whole day actually.. and yes the octopus probably should have ended up on the bbq or on a hook
  19. Its been a while since my last post so i thought id report on todays fishing .. Headed out to the spit to pick up some squid around 4 30...managed only 4 or 5.. Is there a particular reason why squid stop or slow around 5ish? Is it the light? It was then off to Clifton Gardens to try my luck for some Kings even though it was probably not light enough yet.. used a large SP and the fresh squid on gangs. Caught an octopus on the squid which made for a very difficult release because it insisted on holding onto every piece of gear i had on the deck. Also managed to catch another squid on the large SP which i thought was strange as the squid was smaller than the SP itself.. anyway with no kings in the boat yet i decided to head off towards some other markers in the harbour.. after some tips from a friendly water cop on which one to hit i anchored up and was on within 30 seconds and the drag was screaming. Pulled in a 60cm king which i reluctantly released.. (as it was my first!) few mins later and another 59cm king. No keepers unfortunately but it made for some fun angling. Picked up a red rock cod on the way home which i couldn't be bothered filleting so i let it go on its way. All in all a good day and was glad to finally say that i've lost my Kingy virginity
  20. Thanks, have never seen it before so i was wondering what was going on.
  21. Hey raiders, i was hoping some of you may be able to shed some light on some floating fish i saw the other day. I was at curl curl beach and noticed lots of leatherjackets (about 20cm) floating in the water and washed up on the beach. It was after heavy rains and thought it may be from a rush of fresh and maybe polluted water from the curl curl outlet lagoon type system off the beach or due to the recent drop in sea temps.. or something else? Cheers
  22. hey guys, i've noticed a few around too. Last week i was getting some livies at flint and steel when a smallish hammerhead (1 - 1.5m) came charging along the surface and started circling my livies that i had just caught, ended up smashing 2 and swam off with my rig. About 5 minutes later he was back for more so i put a yakka out but i guess he had left.

    Squid

Hey all, i'v recently started fishing middle harbour and the harbour for some kings etc. Would anyone like to share some good locations to get squid. I've tried Balmoral with no luck on a couple occasions. Thanks
  24. hey mate, i'v got a tinnie the same length and it goes alright even in decent swell around the heads. In regard to boat traffic as long as you're smart about it everything should be fine. Happy fishing.
