  1. Alright thanks a lot for all your help.
  2. Hi all, On my last few fishing trips i have had an irregular amount of bilge. After taking the boat (4m aluminum) out of the water i noticed a small hairline type fracture about 10cm in length on part of the weld that joins the sheet metal to the keel/frame of the boat. I was wondering if anyone out there has repaired this before, if so, how much do you think it may costs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Greg
  3. Alright i'll give all that a shot and see what happens. Cheers for all the help
  4. Hi, being fairly new to fishing, i was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on what rigs, bait and line to use etc when fishing for kings in the harbour. I know they take squid and some heavy line is necessary (assuming 30lb braid would be ok?) Does anyone have any successful setups they would like to share, e.g. how strong should the leader be? what hooks should be used? where is a good location to get a few squid? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  5. ok sounds good, thanks a lot for your help
  6. Thanks a lot, whats the most effective way to catch yakkas in cowan?
  7. hi all, i have'nt posted any repots yet so i thought i would report yesterdays trip, however unfortunate the weather may have been. Headed out from Apple Tree Bay around 6:30 and drifted Patonga beach for some flatty which we didnt get however we did land a tailor, a medium sized bream and a squid. Then headed over to Juno point in search for something bigger. After butchering the squid into some bait strips we put a couple of lines out and cast 2 light rigs towards the shorline and let them drift with the current. One of the lighter rigs went of fairly quickly and we landed a nice 39cm bream at the same moment an octopus had taken hold of the other rig, a half hour later the same rod went off with something decent but the leader must have snagged on something sharp as i reeled up a piece of shredded line. All in all a good morning. As im fairly new to fishing i was wondering if anyone could give me advise on where (around the hawkesbury, pittwater, cowan region) to catch some sort of live bait (squid or anything else), and what would be the most effective methods to do so? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Greg
  8. it was on a long shank hook with a strip of squid threaded over it
  9. Pb bream, 39cm off juno point
  10. Recently my 15hp honda 4 stroke outboard has has some sort of electrical short which resulted in basically all three cables in the tiller arm joint (both throttle and kill switch) melting the insultating rubber around them and fusing together in some way. The throttle control on the tiller arm now cannot rotate. Everything else is fine bar the throttle control and kill switch. I was wondering if anyone here knows of a honda dealer near hornsby area (or any other marine mechanic which has the parts) that could fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers, Greg

  13. Found this on ebay.. Wondering what you guys think.. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FIBREGLASS-16FT-NAU...1QQcmdZViewItem[/url]
  14. hi, thanks for the advise. Im not particulary looking for an open water boat, just one that handles the hawkesbury and areas between the heads well. So its not going to need such a powerful outboard.
  15. Hi and thanks, Porbably trolling around the heads, taking it a bit further out for the biggies would be great but im not sure if i can get a trustworthy oceangoing boat for around 4-5 grand. I would prefer aluminium as they seem to be more hardy and can take the odd scrape. However some of the older fibreglass are cheaper but im not sure on all the pros and cons on the two materials (maybe you could advise please). The car we use to tow isnt too powerfull so i was wondering if the GRP hulls are much heavier than the alumium? Seeing as the motor would not be new im thinking about going 4 stroke but if need be a newer reliable oil injected 2 would be ok. Generally just a reliable forward controled boat that is well set up for fishing and can handle the rougher water and swell with a bit more power than my current 15hp tinnie. Thanks for all your help Cheers
  16. Hi all im new to this forum. Im 16 and new to boating and on the lookout for a new boat to replace my 2000 3.8m savage tinnie with 15hp 4 stroke. Would prefer a bit more speed and maybe forward controls but on a budget similar to my current boat (around 4-5 grand), does anyone have any advise on what to look out for when buying an older boat and motor? (most likely in the 90's for both) Thanks
