  1. You could pick up a penn 850 and spinfisher rod to match for your budget. The reel can handle 15 kg line easy, and if you get a 950 rod which is rated up to 20kg it makes an affordable boat combo with some grunt. Mine has done the job well off the boat when I get out. And if landbased, you can still use it for flicking out dead or live baits etc off the jetty.
  2. I use a stradic 8000 (with 20lb braid or so), but you can also get a 4000 or 6000 to fish lighter. Never had any problems and it gets used off the rocks all the time.
  3. Kings are still here in winter....just less of them and bigger. Commercial fishing for where ?
  4. like bertrand said and ditto from me.. cheers
  5. Big guys cruise right along ledges looking for an easy meal. No boat is going to get that close and try and sit there with a big livey waiting for a hood.
  6. Kings - yes..have seen plenty of them. Cobia - sometimes, yellowfin tuna...not for many many many years and that was boat based in SW arm. And I mean a long long time ago. As for landing a 10kg of the baths, well that first run must have been a dud . Go left, reefed on the oysters...go right, reefed on moored boats and the baths. Straight out - well, stuck on the float off the sand point or cut off by a boat. Dont like sounding cycnical and would love see a YFT taken from there, but hard to believe. I have landed some large frigates out of there, and I mean a few kilos each. And rumours of Mac tuan in there, so maybe it was a Mac tuna...love to see a pic though .
  7. 10kg yft (yellow fin tuna) ? WOuld like to see a pic of that .

    Rapala Braid

I use fins for some 10lb or less line and it has changed colour after a few sessions where the drag has worked hard with frigates and some small GTs....But it doesnt really matter if it changes colour anyway as long as the knot strength stays the same, and you generally have some sort of leader whether its mono or flurocarbon. With 2m of fluro, doesnt matter what colour the braid. I think its just the way the material is coloured and yes, after some scorching runs it will lose some colour.
  9. I do it all the time. Im careful with them, but they have still fallen or been dragged along the rocks, and so far so good. But yes, I do try to make sure that they do not hit on the rock edges as much as possible.
  10. Yep, they are nice blanks and have a great reputation. Hard to get here in Sydney if you are based here, but can be ordered via WA.
  11. I modify my lures.....singles on metals mostly, and also add fly material on the hooks as well of the metals and diving lures I have. For sluggos, I have jigheads that I either paint with glo powder or just red, plus add eyes. This allows me to cast the sluggos further off the rocks and still keeps a great action. Also, some bodgy home made fly lures to flick at frigates. Plus white barrels coasted with heat shrink or several coats of gloss white and clear in various sizes.
  12. Rose Bay probably..then you just shoot across the harbour
  13. count me in for as I should be able to drop on in...crimping and pulling apart eggbeaters is where i need some help
  14. For some reason I thought the workshops where out west somewhere....... Kingsgrove is easy for me so should be able to rock up if cityrail doesnt screw my train trip home from work.
  15. Thanks guys....Im not sure if these pliers are the go as they dont seem to crimp down that good on the larger crimps . And just realised the armour springs I have are too small as well. Im not too confident in the test one I made up so might drop into one of the tackle stores so they can have a look . I would be spewing if it let go on a run, so will drop down to small leader for now that I can knot.
