  1. Good catch of bream up that part of the system for this time of year. Like you said, will only improve as the water warms up.
  2. Very nice flatty there. Which area of Middle Harbour were you fishing?
  3. I don't know Narrabeen Lake particularly well but I'd try another approach and try fishing the shallow water. When the water is this cold its the deep areas that are the coldest and often the flatties will be in the shallows sunning themselves (obviously not in this weather though!). I've found this to be the case in the harbour and other waterways. Worth a try I think.
  4. I'm interested to see how you guys all go. I'm keen to give Middle Harbour a go on Saturday, upstream of the Roseville Bridge. Have always had success on the flatties up that way but haven't managed to hook a jew as yet.
  5. Hey all, just wanted people's opinions of the prospect of catching jewies in the dirty upper reaches of the estuaries, now that we've had a heap of rain. This is normally a good time of year to be chasing jewies in the upper reaches but do you think the dirty water will be have a negative impact on the fishing, due to baitfish likely being flushed out with all this fresh? Personally I think that there will be some effect on the baitfish supply but the dirty water might get the jews really biting, giving them more of ann opportunity to ambush. It's something I've been thinking about and would be interested in everyone's opinion.
  6. I don't know about Bundeena wharf but I did fish Bonnievale Spit at Maianbar on Sunday night for 2 legal whiting (many undersize too), including 1 big 43cm model. The fishing overall was pretty average but the big whiting made up for that, a little anyway. Normally a productive spot if you're willing to wade across from the Maianbar flats, or make the longer trek from Bundeena. All fish were caught on nippers too. Cheers
  7. Hi all, I haven't fished this area this summer at all but I'm planning on pumping some nippers and fishing the area tomorrow evening. Has anyone fished the Maianbar and Bonnievale spit area recently who could let me know how the whiting have been biting? Would love to hear from anyone who has fished there recently. Thanks.
  8. As far as I know Botany Bay itself is fine when it comes to eating fish from there.
  9. Eating fish from Kyeemagh (the mouth of the Cooks's River) is probably only slightly more risky than eating fish from the bay itself. I agree that you should definitely not eat any fish caught up river though.
  10. Hey guys, has anyone ventured out in Middle Harbour over the last couple of days? Just curious as to what the condition of the water is, whether it's been muddied up at all or if it's still fairly clear. Thinking of fishing the upper reaches around Roseville tomorrow morning and the state of the water will dictate what sort of fishing i'll do. I'm in Sydney's west and I haven't had a chance to check out the water up that way. Any info would really be appreciated. Thanks.
  11. Haven't been there for a while but there were always plenty of yakkas around the Gunnamatta baths that were fairly easy to catch. I used to burley them up and catch them on small bits of mince.
  12. Well done, that's a nice pair of fish! ... which system were you fishing?
  13. Yeah I should have mentioned I'm land based. I generally fish the upper reaches of Middle Harbour which during summer the flats and holes generally hold reasonably good numbers of flatties but I haven't been up there for a number of months. Up until then those areas were still fishing ok. Are the flatties likely to hang around those upper reaches during the winter or do they head downstream looking for deeper and warmer water?
  14. Hi all, With me having the week off next week I'm planning on doing a bit of fishing on at least one of those days. The idea is to target flatties in the harbour, most probably middle harbour with plastics. I had reasonable success over summer targetting them in the upper reaches of middle harbour over last summer but i haven't had a go at them this winter. I know the water's probably near its coldest at the moment up that way but is it still worth a go at the flatties up there at this time of year or are they more likely to be in the lower rather than upper reaches? Any feedback or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks
  15. Thanks for the replies guys. Can you pump any of the flats around Paddy's channel or around Saratoga?
  16. Hi all, I'm heading up to a mate's place in Davistown in a couple of weekends time. I plan on fishing the channels around Davistown and I'd like to get hold of some yabbies. Can anyone tell me where you can pump yabbies in Brisbane Water? I know of a few likely places but I've never actually pumped yabbies up there. If anyone could pass on any advice it would be appreciated. Cheers
  17. Headed out to Middle Harbour this morning for a SP session. Conditions were perfect with minimal breeze, was overcast and a hight tide at around 8am. It was a bit quieter than I expected it to be. Landed some undersized whiting which took a liking to the Gulps I was using. Had a few hits here and there but nothing too substantial. Looked as though I would be heading home without a fish until I landed a sizeable flatty. It went just over 60cm. Catching that flatty made the trip worthwhile and I might try and get a couple more sessions in before the holiday break is over.
  18. Hey guys, heading down to Narooma for a few days and just wondering if anyone has any idea how the fishing has been lately? Last few times i've been down there it's been pretty good. If anyone has been lately it would be great to hear how you went. I'm mainly fishing the inlet, from boat and shore. Cheers.
  19. Hey all, Does anyone know how dirty Middle Harbour is looking (between Roseville and the Spit) after all the rain we've had this week? I don't live nearby so I don't really want to go for a drive to find out but if anyone's been out and about there I'd love an update. Thinking of heading up there tomorrow if the water isn't too fresh. Cheers
  20. They're some nice flatties there Ray, and the long tom is enormous! Just a quick question, is the Bensville channel the channel that basically connects the Broadwater with Cockle Channel (Davistown frontage)?
  21. Thanks for the advice all. Graham, I did try the pontoon next to the Roseville ramp and caught myself a couple of yakkas and a few small other fish of which I have no idea what they were (sort of a cross between silver biddies and mullet). I fished the picnic area upstream from Roseville Bridge, and a bit further upstream, without too much luck. Just one decent bream and a couple of barely legal ones which all went back to fight another day. Cheers
  22. Hey all, Which spots would any of you recommend for catching yakkas and maybe squid around Middle Harbour (land-based)? I'm heading up for a fish that way tomorrow afternoon and it'd be good if I could catch some bait in that area rather than the spots I'd normally go to (which are out of the way). Thanks
  23. That's a great bag of fish, good to see there are still plenty of fish up that way at the moment. They're 2 real good size flatties as well!
  24. Hey guys, I had a fishing trip planned for tomorrow morning from the short up in middle harbour around Roseville. Do you think with the gales about it's still worth heading out? It's a little sheltered up that way but it'll still be pretty blowy. Do you guys think the extra bit of chop in the water helps the fishing or hinders it? I know it makes it fairly uncomfortable but if there's a chance of fish it's still worth a shot I reckon. If anyone has any opinions on this I'd love to hear them. Cheers
