  1. That's a helluva nice trevor Good going on light gear - they can really pull. Bream look OK too. Good going
  2. Put the tinny on Lake Burley Griffin at the Black Mountain ramp and trolled cod lures down the deep roadbank for nothing Worked along the rowing course and back for a few smallish redfin - enough to keep me occupied. In the reach opposite the boat ramp I had a hit that ripped yards of line off my reel and by the way it kept pulling back to the bottom, I was convinced it was a good sized yellowbelly. Turned out to be a very well condition redfin 37 cm long with a couple of small redfin (4 cm in her stomach). Worked that reach for another hour for two more average redfin before my worms demanded lunch and dog demanded a leak. All-in-all a good morning
  3. G'day Andrew Depends on the sticker - mostly the dryer softens the vinyl ones and you get to peel them off in bits. I then finished with the orange based sticky remover.
  4. OUtnumbered - I used an electric heat paint stripper on low setting to get rid of most of mine the used the orange peel based stick remover (sold in Bunnings) to get rid of the rest. It is cheaper than eucalyptus and works just as well. Did both the tinny and the fibreglass canoe.
  5. I did mine - made a template from some sort of light foam board my builder son turned up, then with the aid of a jigsaw and , carved out the shape. Didn;t use marine ply but gave the ply about 4 coats of varnish after I cut it. Marine/Caravan carpet voer the deck and the dog loves it!
  6. Don't go on the rocks alone! I still have scars from 30 years ago when I was washed in at Merrimbula! Three days in the Pambula base hospital with concussion & 35 stiches. My mate saw me in a bloody heap and called the ambo - I was out for about 5 hours. If he wasn't there - god knows as it was mid-week and not a lot of rock fishos there. Funny thing - I cannot fish off rocks now - a wave goes 'woof' near me and I am twenty feet up a cliff face with no idea hopw I got there My old rock fishing rod has landed a lot of good jewies off the beach tho

    Boat Named

Lookin' Good -Won't be able to recognise the boat next time
  8. Eyre Peninsular spots like Streaky Bay, Smokey Bay etc are lousy with them - great bait of KG Whiting etc. Also edible (human wise).
  9. Well done on the cod. The Severn has a good population and I love the smash hit when they take a lure. I fished it a few years ago out of Glen Innes while the missus had a small contract with the local NPWS setting up their library.
  10. Hi Outnumbered Got home about 6.30 to NO SYMPATHY from wife, sons, daughter-in-law or grandkids! Thanks for the trip anyway and I will wait until summer/early autumn before I try it again! May try for a 'Raiders social day in spring if we are not wandering the country. Did you do any good in the last couple of hours?? David
  11. Dave W - Nope - use 'em for a lot of other things though. I think it was on an Oargee Plough. Favoured lure by a lot of locals was the big stumpjumper on one rod and a medium Stumpjumper on the other (one for Cod and one for Yellas) Mark D - Yep - a small (but legal) cod. I keep hoping for one that I have to tow ashore so I don't swamp the boat

    My Old Tinnie

Hokky - can I get you to run a photo of how you have installed your seat forrard for the 'leccy motor? I have been thinking of one for my tinny, but wondering how it was braced.
  14. I think it would be a good idea for the reasons mentioned, but as an out of towner be unable to attend. This also happens with a lot of other Clubs, but if there was a 'Club' page on the forum to keep members up to date on activites and plans we could lend our support in whatever weay we could.
  15. Just back from the 'Bidgee at Hay - day's travel either way so only fished Saturday & Sunday. Camped at the Four Mile reserve west of Hay on lthe Maude road. Not a bad launch ramp there and locals were putting in there and moving to camps down river. \ Saturday was very quiet - a couple of bumps and thats about all. Even the locals said it was quiet. Sunday saw a small cod in the boat and released after photos. Also saw a few nice yellowbelly and some small cod (undersized). Locals reckon this has generally been a good year with more native fish caught than carp - which is GOOD news. Fishing picks up when water is released from higher up for irrigation - unfortunately the release was not going to happen until today and the flow would not reach Hay until tomorrow or Wednesday. Nice spot to camp - no amenities but free hot showers are available in Hay at the Visitors Centre. Missus explored old Hay (Bishop's Lodge, Hay Gaol, WW2 Prisoner of War camp etc) and read in camp while I flogged the river with all sorts of lures and the dog had her nose in the air sniffing all the time. Thank god no pigs were on the bank or I would still be looking for her.
  16. Trout season closes on Queens Birthday Weekend in June, but you can still fish Lakes (Eucumbene & Jindabyne anyway). Fish are normally gather at the head of the lakes for their spawning run, but many are still caught. Be prepared to be cold though!
  17. For John Q Citizen, releasing carp in the ACT is illegal UNLESS fishing in one of these comps. Sometime ago the organisers of one of the big comps threatened to hold it elsewhere so the ACT Govt caved in (visitors bring in money). Lake BG also holds Cod, Yellowbelly & Redfin, & the occasional trout. Govt releases Cod & Yellowbelly fingerlings each year in all ACT lakes. Carp do provide a lot of fun on light gear & I have been known to fish for them in winter when other species are quiet. Get a big one (10lb plus) on a flyrod and you get to see a lot of your backing. I know what I pay for my carbon fibre bream and fly rods so I shudder to think what a 20ft coarse pole would cost. Anyway, I am off to Lake BG again today with boat to see if I can find any non-carp species.
  18. Its DIFFERENT - they were 'catch, weight & release' (Spit)CARP! Some of their poles ar 18-20 ft long line attached to some sort of bungee cord at the top. Slingshots to lob burley out around the float which is balance more finely than a luderick float. Interesting to watch, but not my fishing scene.
  19. Love it when the kids get in on the action - no matter the species. Re weather . Keep 'em fishin - its great to see.
  20. Went for an after lunch wander on the shores of Lake BG and found a Mother's Day Coarse Fishing Comp. All anglers were catching fish.
  21. I have 8lb Squidgy braid on a Capricorn for about 3 months and many freshwater trips. Goes well, casts well and is not a 'wiry' as fireline. That said, I have 6lb Fireline on another reel and am happy with that and am using FINS 30lb on a beach outfit. The beach outfit has only had a couple of outings, but it seems to perform well. Baitcasters are loaded with Fireline. Have also tried Hercules and Platypus and was not happy with either. Both seemed to separate easily and then break.
  22. Well Done! Now you got to get #2, #3, ... while I still have to get #1. (I understand it helps if you fish salt water
  23. I've goota land one of them again instead of them always landing me. Great report. Cheers
  24. Looks like I may have to come to Sydney for a weekend and see if I can bludge a ride in a kingie boat. Love to tie into one again as I haven't seen one for years (Damn traps)
