  1. Here is a story that may bring back some memories for those who tossed big lures to jewies GTs and other nasties -- http://www.bassdozer.com/articles/surf_plugs.shtml I remember hitting BIG Sambos on SA's Eyre Peninsular using something like some of these.
  2. I have been using fly clips for about 2 years now for both SPs and HBs. However, in the last three months I have had HBs escape from the clip, I now use a loop knot for HBs. I agree on the ridiculous price in Oz and buy them from BassPro (30 for about $US5.00 (pack in a few HBs and SPs until I have reached a $12 postage limit. Cheers
  3. Welcome to the site, but I'll leave it to Sydneysiders to point you in the right direction. When I lived in Balmain (years ago) the Cremorne wharf and Drummoyne wharf were a couple of regular spots for breaming. Never saw a kingie there tho Anyway have a few
  4. Just home from two days at Moruya. Flathead were scarce this trip - only landed 5 keepers plus a Tailer and 4 Trevally. River was full of small red bream and leather jackets. I went thru 25 soft plastics all shredded by small toothy fish. Larger boat going outside were coming with reasonable bags of snapper, morwong and a few kingies and sand flathead.
  5. Just put some thoughts down in my blog - may answer some questions on lures and locations. I need to refer to it before I go back again.
  6. 31 Mar - Arrived Mulwala and had boat in the water for an evening - Score 1 small cod. 1 Apr - Spend most of the day drifting in the sticks - score one lost lure & 2 small cod. 2 Apr - Drifting in the sticks - repeat of yesterday - one lost lure and 2 small cod. 3 Apr - 'Orrible day - wind, rain, dust - one lost lure, 2 small cod and snagged and recovered a fishing rod and reel. Rod is an Ugly Stick and will come up OK, the reel is an Ambassadeur 6000, but it is a bit corroded from submersion. Will try and repair. Other anglers caught a few redfin and yellas, but I seemed to be the only one catchin g cod, all around the 50 cm mark. Still lots of fun in the sticks. Saw a couple of cod rising like trout to big locusts on the water and had a couple boof the lure at boatside, drenching me with water and leaving me shaking. Attached are a couple of photos - one of a cod and one of the sticks.
  7. Pity about the dropped fish . I loved Monduran, but it was too cold for the barra when I was there I was belted by large fork-tailed catfish and bass though. Dragging them out thru that timber was fun. Cheers
  8. Thanks Guys Mulwala Classic - may explain why there was only 1 'van site left in the park I phoned. Oh well - there goes peace and quiet. Will post a report when I return home. B'day - new NAVMAN sounder & an econet!! - now get the wind to drop so I can blood them
  9. Hi Anyone fished Mulwala (on the Murray)? If so, any spots, hints etc - I am planning a 4 day trip there weekend after Easter. Cheers David
  10. I had a day with Steve last May, it was brilliant. Cast flies to Permit - even had a BIG one come over for alook before veering off; caught a large flathead on the fly, then bothered barra for the rest of the day. Landed three and bew a few more away on jumps. I also recommend him. Dave
  11. Southerlies in front of the TV using either DVD or tape.
  12. SPs mean no smelly bait - way to go.
  13. Top report. After years of fishing the harbour, it really brought back memories
  14. Looks good - well done. Hope to be thru there sometime over the next 6 weeks and will give my tinny a run on the river.
  15. Love to help the Silvers, BUT, they are extremely susceptible to predation by Gambusia (Mosquito Fish) when in the laval stage. The Research Station at Narrandera identified the mosquito fish as a major cause in the Silver Perch decline along with professional fishing in inland rivers. They are also susceptible to carp stirring up their environment. In the 60s & 70s (before carp) I used to regularly catch them in the 'Bidgee near Canberra and in Burrinjuck. Now - nothing. They used to be stocked in Canberra's lakes but the local managers reckon they are water soluble, and now concentrate on Yellas and Cod. They are great to catch and good eating, but the only ones caught lately have been out in the Cooper & its tributaries in Qld.
