  1. Personally, i say tough luck and reap what you sow.
  2. Im doing the main parade at the National Remembrance Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial (i'll be front row Army, 4th from the right) after our Dawn service here on base, then heading up to Lake Eucumbene to throw some Tassie devils at some Trout then sit around the campfire and have a laugh with some mates from work. Looking forward to it immensely!
  3. "On the night in question the Borgs were in their boat fishing for brim." as quoted by the journo. What are these elusive "brim" and how do i catch them???? LOL
  4. Yeah that did come to mind Mike, but i think it would be easier to move the burley bucket as i dont want to have to re-do all the wiring and piping for the pump! Cheers, Alan.
  5. Ahhh, just the reply i was waiting for! And for it to come from you JH makes it even better!!
  6. Yeah but, i dont reckon the Dollies will be around in winter. What do i fish for then? Do i have to head to browns mountain? or can i fish the peaks and just sink the livies down deep?
  7. Gday all, Now that i have my livie tank up and running, and will soon be getting my epirb and such, where should i take my livies and how should i present them? Also, what should i expect to catch? I really wanted to be catching dollies, but they are heading north to the warmer waters now arent they? Cheers, Alan.
  8. Ive got a stop valve installed mate. And ive sealed the top edges of the lid so as not to have water splash out when im bouncing around the place.
  9. The lid creates a seal around the top edge of the esky. So im guessing water will only splash around within the unit when it is all closed up.
  10. The stands come from a very elusive creature, known to grace the day only in the early dark hours of the morning. If spooked, they will run and usually leave behind a trail of what looks to be like milk. Back in the day they would bring gifts to your home before you even woke. Nowadays, you can only get their products in stores. Or you can look around alley's and dark hidey holes at night and you just might come across one or 2. LOL
  11. Here is the live bait tank i discussed previously! Ended up being about $200 to make all up, but none the less its cheaper than most store bought ones and works really well. The esky is a 44litre jobby i got from bunnings. I bought it for 2 reasons, the first being it is unsulated and the second being the lid, its got the hatch access opening which will be good to have. The two outlets you can see here are 1 and a quarter inch, i put 2 in cause on first testing, the single one couldnt empty quick enough. They are closer together so the water can circulate a bit around the tank before being flushed out. One empty's into the splash well, the other directly out the back of the boat. The straps are to keep it from falling forward or sliding sideways and to hold it down onto the crate. Here you can see why i chose the esky. The hatch is awesome!!! Here is the pump and pickup. I did away with most of the metal in the pick-up for fear of it catching something and ripping away from the transom. The hose is very stiff and should work quite well, and its cut at about 45 degrees as hinted to me in my other post. Here is the pump setup on the back. My mate (Thanks Tait) is a Army electrician so he did the wiring for me, and what a top job he did!!! And here is a shot looking into the tank, you can see the inlet at the bottom left at the back and the two outlets top right. The pump flows up to a one way valve just before the tank to stop losing water when the pump is stopped and im stationary. Anyway, let me know what you think and anything i could have done better. Cheers, Alan. P.s, yes i know my transom looks messy, but its tough as nails and is only short time away from being re-painted and made to look "nice"...lol
  12. I'll get some but i wont be able to upload them till tomorrow night.
  13. Hi all, Ive built my tank! I used a 3/4 inch inlet and a 1 and a quarter outlet. The outlet is too small as i tested the tank and pump to see if it was all running. The pump was pumping in quicker than the water could get out so im going to install another 1 and a quarter outlet next to the first one to help with emptying. But apart from that, i think ive got a great home made livie tank onboard now!! Great to keep the days catch alive too when im only fishing inshore, and atleast at the end of the day i decide not to keep any of the fish, i can release them to fight another day! Cheers, Alan.
  14. I got this email ages ago in full. It was a demonstration by the company that make the backhoes to show how strong and reliable their choice of hydraulics are. If i was in the market for one after seeing this i would buy one for sure!
  15. PeterS, Yeah mate, got some livies then got a king and a watsons leaping bonito, but not much else after that. Dwag90, yeah i love my four wheeling! Been in 2 comps now but didnt place. I try to get out when im not out fishing.
  16. Hi raiders, Just to brag, i finally had my tow vehicle lifted today! Firmer springs all round, especially in the rear to put up with the weight of my big girl (boat folks, my boat...lol) Its a dobinsons 2 inch kit which actually lifted it about 2.5 inches all round. Here is a pic just to show off. Cheers, Alan.
  17. People probably know this one, but for those that dont: When filleting fish at home, keep the frames in the freezer till bin day or better yet, keep them there till next weekend and use them in your burley masher/bucket! Fibreglass boats, or any boat for that matter, always undo the travelling strap and winch cable when the boat is stationary at home. Takes the stress off the hull.
  18. Sorry to say, but if someone is stealing a whole boat, its not coming back. It will most likely be re-birthed and sent interstate. Lets hope they had full cover insurance ay. I know i do.
  19. Serious? can you elaborate a bit???
  20. Nice one mate! Im sure you'll have plenty of joy in her!! And heartache too!! (it comes naturally with boats..lol)
  21. I got a 44litre esky today with a lid that opens partially and a bung already installed for emptying. Just got to get to BCF tomorrow to get my bits and start building!
  22. Cool cool, Plans change again!!! I'll now put the inlet at the bottom of the tank, and have a one way valve on the inlet hose to stop the siphon effect.
  23. Chocofallon, I see you have put your inlet at the bottom of the tank, ive been told for mine to stop the siphon effect to mount the inlet above my outlet hole and have the outlet hole bigger than the inlet so the water can constantly be pumped into the tank but never overflow. Im off to Bunnings tomorrow to choose a tank, then BCF tuesday to get the fittings and pump!! Cheers for the replies guys.
  24. Cheers guys, I think i'll use an esky, cause it will have the lid and insulation built in. Although im a bit concerned that the water flow wont cause a circular motion, but will this be counteracted by the fact that the water will be constantly refreshed? I'll have a pick up for when on the move, and a 500-800gph bilge pump for when stationary.
  25. Gday raiders, Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on what to use when making a home made livie tank. Should i look for a cheap esky (inbuilt insulation being a con) or do i just use a home brew type round tub? And if i use either, will a lid hinder the oxygen exchange or will that be done with the fresher water coming in from the pump/pickup im going to install with it? Cheers, Alan.
