  1. Gday Raiders, As seen in my other post in the reports section, i recently lost my Dolly Virginity and today i prepared it for the kitchen. Using a light coat of flour and some of the "Green salad sprinkle" from the guys at Australian Bush Spices seen here http://www.australianbushspices.com.au/ i cooked it up in the pan on a medium heat for about 5-7 minutes. Sprinkled with a bit of lemon juice, shared amongst 2 other Army boys i live with the general consensus on how it tasted we came up with one word......WOW! That is some fantastic tasting fish!!! I definately wont be giving too many of them away next time i get a haul!! Anyway, just thought id let you know how it went and to give you all a heads up on the Australian Bush Spices guys. All aussie owned, all aussie products!! Cheers, Alan.
  2. Bruce, i have the exact same boat as you yet in different colour scheme and mine is towed by my 2002 Nissan Patrol.
  3. Gday folks, On monday i met up with Fishbones (Mike) for a day out on the water. It started out a bit choppy in close so we hid behind Shark island to get some yakkas, and yakkas we got! While i was stuffing around with the yakkas Mike was on the phone and busy being harrassed by a nice little kingy which went back to live another day, then along came a salmon which dropped the hook at the boat. We got about 30-40 yakkas and headed out wide to a FAD (not sure which one) and dropped the livies out. I was suprised how quickly the dollies get onto the baits as ive never fished for them before. We fished for a while then went for a troll with no luck. We ended up with about 16 dollies all up i think. What a fun day, ive never had so much fishing action in one outing and with Mikes wealth of knowledge i learnt more in one day than probably over the last 5 years of fishing on my own. Ive never met a more knowledgable fisho and im glad i went out with him again. Cheers Mike!!! Anyway, here is a pic of me with my best for the day that went about 83cm. The best for the day was Mikes that went about 94cm. Cheers, Alan. P.s, the wierd look on my face is cause the fish was fresh from the water and i was trying my best to contain him for the photo!! LOL
  4. Thanks for the replies. someone actually showed me on monday so dont worry about it.
  5. Hi folks, Ive just read how to bridle rig some livies and want to know what you guys do with them once rigged? Im unsure if i need to let it swim free, or weighted and if so, how much weight and how much leader (swimming leash) do i give it? cheers, Alan.
  6. I was out there today, launched from Foreskin drive at about 2:30am, fished different spots till about 9am then called it quits. We (well, my mate did) hit 2 black bream going 32cm and 33cm, then i hit a flattie going 44cm and that was it. Burleyed the crap out of the joint for nothing else. And Hornets, you are dead right, the swell was pretty bad ay.
  7. Hi fellas, All it says here http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/sbh/safetyequip_tables.html is "marine radio". Can someone point us to some clarification on where it says you need VHF for more than 2 miles offshore? Well, i kind of found it myself on this page http://www.marinerescuensw.com.au/index.php/marine-radio-network/ where it states "27 MHz 27 MHz is a common frequency band used by recreational boaters, however as the cost of VHF radios is now becoming more affordable and they provide better communications, 27 MHz radios are becoming less popular than they once were. A 27 MHz radio is generally suitable for use in enclosed waters and provides a range usually limited to line-of-sight. If you enjoy offshore boating then a VHF radio is recommended. 27 MHz radios allow ship-to-ship communication and ship-to-shore communication with the volunteer marine rescue services. 27 MHz radios are capable of transmitting distress signals, receiving weather forecasts and marine safety information provided that the vessel is within range of the volunteer services." So there you have it, VHF is recommended, not mandatory.
  8. So who do i have to pay to have my extinguisher checked every 6 months? What a farce! I use my boat about 20 times a year and i now have to pay to have someone tell me that my F/E is working when i can plainly see the little guage that tells me it is??
  9. Would it be possible to drill a small pilot hole of about 1-2mm in diametre to check how thick the floor is? I did this for my pedestal seat and the floor ended up about an inch thick so i just secured the seat base to the floor with sikaflex and some self tapping fibreglass screws with bolt heads. Strong as hell.
  10. Just get a good soldering iron, do all the connections with a decent solder and then cover them with some decent heatshrink wrap. Ive done all the wiring in my boat and havent had a short or any drama yet. If i wasnt in Canberra mondays to fridays id come and do it for you, and for payment you could teach me to fish!!! LOL No seriously, i stink at fishing!
  11. And remember, if you are doing 40kph in a turn, then the tuber will almost be doing double that. Be shore concious, know the length of your rope and how far you need to be for the tuber to clear the shore in whips. And always listen to what the tuber is telling you, if they ask to slow down, dont listen to someone else thats saying "dont worry they'll be right speed up" just slow down. A happy tuber is someone that will always be willing to come back and tube again and be a spotter for you. Ive had 3 tubes out the back of my boat at a time many times, and its so much fun!! I could tube all day long! Love it!
  12. Hi folks, I have recently made the decision that im going to start taking my boat offshore when conditions permit again (ie 12 mile in my 17 foot half cab with 130hp out back) but my ideas have since been deflated as i have only just found out that i need an epirb to go out there. 2 years ago when i first got my boat i went out to the fads twice without an epirb and was damn sure i didnt need one as my boat was under 7 metres in length. So, since when did the law change that every boat that go's 2nm offshore needs an epirb? Cheers, Alan.
  13. Hi folks, Anyone got any fishing spots available for tomorrow wednesday 24th? Ive got the day off and my own boats in canberra Even charters out of sydney at reasonable prices? Have own gear, money for fuel/bait ect and my sea legs are sturdy. Cheers, Alan.
  14. I have sent you a sms Mike, just seeing if you are keen to head out this wednesday at all? Cheers, Alan. P.s, i came out with you late last year with my mate Doug, we were the 2 Army blokes.
  15. Where was my invite Pete? Havent heard from you two clowns in ages!!
  16. Driving along Henry Lawson Drive today from Picnic point to Peakhurst, i came across this scene which i had to get a photo of!! I took the photo at 4:40pm and then on the way home at 5:45pm the tide was even lower!! I think they have a long wait before they can get away again. And the guys onboard from what i could make out looked like Grandpa, Grandma and 3 little ones......a very long wait!! I would have helped out, but what can you do???
  17. Anyone got any room for 2 to show 2 army blokes how its done this weekend? We've been out in my boat quite a few times this year with no luck, maybe someone can take us out wide and show us how its done? Fuel and bait money is no problem, we'll put in more than our fair share thats for sure. PM here or sms/call me on 0424008648. Cheers, Alan. (and on behalf of my mate Doug too...lol)
  18. So i hit up the harbour this afternoon and tryed just off Hmas Watson?? Caught about 20 juvie snapper between my mate and i and got one keeper bream that i decided to let go and 2 trevally that went 40cm for the biggest and about 35 for the smaller one. Was playing them on 8lb line and it was mighty fun!! Using just the usual prawns for bait with a running sinker rig and 20lb leader of about a metre long. Cant believe how choppy the harbour got about 4pm, and then out came all the windcatchers made things interesting navigating back to rose bay. Anyway, had a fun one. Seeyas out there.
  19. I broke my record!! Over 120 views and not one reply. Cheers.
  20. Loloho Bay, Kieta, Bougainville. I will one day visit that beautiful island again!! The most stunning place i have ever seen in my life!!
  21. Gday raiders, I am going to try out sydney harbour this friday arvo with my newly serviced boat and a mate and want to know some good spots to check out and baits to use at the spots? Im useless at squiding so no squid tips thanks...lol Im most likely to use some plastics and pillies. Cheers, Alan.
