  1. well done tol'.....you and your son have really got your act together lately.....
  2. Yeah i agree, river to reef is a bore .... dave is alrite tho, nice bloke, owns tackleworld shop at st marys and is very helpful and friendly.... we met those blokes on that particular show with kayaks the Sat after they made that episode. Gotta admire those blokes on the yaks tho, some of them have better set ups than most people in bigger boats, with live bait tanks, Scotty downriggers and the best sounders, they are keen fishos and are brave souls. We saw a few at Longy a last week catching some decent kingys.
  3. great reports ASJ, your keen for braving this winter chill, well rewarded ...looks like you got the bug bad. you've got everyone here drooling with envy
  4. we were actually at 12mile on Saturday, got 2 there jigging and 1 on the downrigger, the best went 77cms. on the way back stopped at Longreef, the operator we were with has a camera set up with his downrigger and as the sun was going down our livies got harrased heaps ( i think the yakkas we had were just a little bit too big)and we could see up to a dozen fish(on camera) following but only managed to hook up twice, 65 and 67 cms.
  5. the ups and down of fishing all in the one day...we were out there on Saturday on a charter, our first time jigging, man that is bloody hard work and hard on your tackle, broke my brand new piranha jig stick i scored for free from one of these magazine giveaways.(cheapo as) we couldnt believe it. most of us were buggered after 15 mins of jigging. its a good way to quickly build up lactic acid in your arms stopped at longy on the way home and got 2 up on the downrigger.
  6. some real stonkers there boys.... i remember watching on telly a few weeks ago where the infamous kaj busch was guiding the 2 ifish boys around mallacoota in his superb pro bream boat. they too were catching kilo bream at will, bushie mentioned switching to 1kg braid has made the biggest difference in consistently catching the truly massive bream in that system. you boys are proof that theory is spot on...
  7. well done Chad....there's nothing better than a solid sambo off the beach
  8. thats should feed your family for a month, well done milkfish... i agree leatheries are the most underated fish, they are flaky sweet goodness. and in a lot of mediterranean and a lot of asian countries, slimy mackeral is the preferred fish... i love em. baked over an open charcoal flame with a lot of salt ,olive oil and lemon...mmmmmm bagged out indeed...well done again
  9. tnx billyd....i was hoping to get away with 15kg braid on my shimano speedmaster and live fibre RLF16 rod but that seems a bit like bringing a knife to gun fight...
  10. Hey Raiders....my brothers and I and a few mates have got a charter next weekend to try jigging outside for winter kings. We'd like to use our own gear but need help of whats sort of gear to take..e.g line class, jigs and would plastics also work? any help or advice appreciated....

  14. Welcome Jewgal ....firstly can I say that you are one of the prettiest raider Ive seen in a long while, some of the heads in here go better on a hook . Well done on catching you first squid, if you cant convert them into a jew then you could always batter em up and eat them. But good luck on your next challenge.

  16. The man sure knows how to frame a picture. Well done again ad again Ray...
  17. Ray you are a god...I know a lot of blokes who love to fish, including myself but you take it to a new level. I was shivering just reading your report, and where do you get these jackets from, I want one. And again great pics..

  20. Sunday 17th May- The plan was all good at 8pm the night before, the winds had died down and the swell was half to one and a half metres but dropping. We were going to the a private fad to have a go at the late run of dollies that have been plaguing Sydney of late, we were set to go but an early morning call,4am, from the charter operator advised that the plans will now have to be changed to either rebooking for another day or to try our luck for the sometimes elusive king fish inside Pittwater. Reluctantly we went with the second option but werent as confident. Live baits were acquired just inside Broken Bay, which looked more like a Westfield carpark as the wind and choppy conditions had kept everyone inside. Half a dozen yakkas, 1 small 5inch squid and a huge green eyed variety were in the bait tank and we were off to the first spot. Dowriggers were deployed and the skipper attached his secret weapon onto the one with the small squid, an underwater camera. Nothing happened in the first five minutes but sure enough a silver flash came across the small screen which was undoubtably our first customer for the day.The skipper had yelled at the eldest brother to stand by as he was first 'in the chair'. Another flash on screen and the squid we were all looking at had now disappeared off the screen and the rod had buckled over. 'Strike' the skipper yells, called it close to a metre big and sure enough my brother had hooked onto his first ever kingfish, line peeling off the 15kg outfit, his virginity soon to be sacrificed. The look of panic was written all over his face but that didnt last long as the fish took him deep towards the wreck we were hovering over and before he knew it he reeling in only line He was dejected and totally disappointed and us giving him the hardest time didnt help his spirits either. But that meant he was 'out of the chair' and it was my turn next and another much larger squid was sent back down but this time we tried a different wreck. It didnt take long on the next wreck before I had hooked up a rat and at 66 cm was quickly in the slurry. Over the next hour or so we had hooked up half a dozen kingfish, dropped 3 and kept 3 my eldest brother even braking his virginty with a hefty 86cm model which was quite fat and looked more like a tuna as he had such a wide girth.(see pic atached) It wasnt the most productive day but we had learnt a wealth of knowledge from a very knowlegable skipper who was very willing to share his secrets and come home with a feed.
  21. Could you guys also send me a PM regarding a hire boat in the harbour pls. Got a week to spend with the kids mostly next week but would like to spend one day fishing the harbour in a hire tinnie hopefully. Thanks raiders
  22. mate thats one bad addiction you have there. your persistence is admirable but the reward, sweet and enviable. again a brilliant report, well done. pity you couldnt make sushi with all that seaweed you hauled in.
  23. Hey raiders...Ive got a week off over the school holidays mainly to spend time with the kids but my brother also has the same week off and we were planning to sneak out for a night to go and fish Stockton Breakwall. We've heard plenty of good stories from work mates who have fished there but have no idea where to fish as I heard it is is quite a long breakwall or what to target and baits and rigs to use. Any help would be gratefuly appreciated.
  24. We were out there on Saturday, first tried Terrigal fad for 1 57cm dolly then Broken Bay. Came home with zilch. Like BB said the current was roaring to get a decent go at either.
  25. We were out on Satuday, got to the bait grounds just on daybreak and quickly filled the tanks then made the run to Terrigal fad. On arriving we quickly hooked up 1 57cm dolly, a promising start but stayed an hour and couldnt raise another, lots of traffic, fish had gone down deep and refused to play. So tried Broken Bay fad but came up zilch, the current was just too strong to get a fair go. Trolled around for another hour then gave up for the flathead grounds off Avoca on, but quickly ran out of sinkers as we were plagued by to those pirahnas of the deep ,leatherjackets. Quick troll inside Pittwater, hoping for a kingy to take home but no takers. It was that sort of day and so went home dejected with an empty esky. It was a nice day to be out fishing but sometimes it is hard work.
