  10. Hi all.... I just thought id share this with anyone that has caught octopus as a by catch ( usually when fishing 4 other species as I have on countless occasions )... ive been catching these things for years.... tried smashing against rocks..... rubbing..... bbq ing....even some of my greek so called occy cooking experts have bbq them ( joke )... and they are still tough as leather! heres a good recipe i scored from an italian chef at balmain!! 1. clean occy and take as much skin off as possible... 2. marinate for about 4 hours in olive olive oil, crushed garlic, basil and parsley.. salt and pepper ( ground )... 3. pre heat oven to 120 degrees.... 4. place the occy and marinate together in a baking dish... then add white wine and red wine ( semillon sauvignon blanc ) and red wine ( shiraz ) and add some lemon juice... 5. cover with foil and cook for 4 hours..... yes 4 hours ( seems like a long time )!!!! 6. then take out of oven and sear the occy on a hotplate to make crispy... 7. serve with chips and salad! 8. enjoy!

    Safe Eating

mate I dont know about glowing in the dark but ive grown another little toe on my left foot! im baking an occy in the oven at the moment i got out of milk beach at vaucluse.... have been eating occies out of there for 10 years and im fine ( i thing!! lol )..
  12. mate...go with someone who is experienced for the first coupla times.....boat size.... i wouldnt go out in anything under 5 metres..... ( thats just me though ive seen smaller boats out wide on good flat days )...weights are heavy...id say around 1-2 kgs...minimum.. varies though... prob ask cj he may know more info than me
  13. mate there were boats trolling....no one else bottom bashing... we used californian squid....... bonnies fllets and pillies with some stripies ( they liked the stripies fillets )... the swell was about 3 metres.... occasional rolling boomers the size of houses.. pretty uncomfortable.. we held bottom ok.... no lost rigs.... drift was slow surprisingly.. picked up in the arvo!!!long day
  14. mate it took the skipper about 45 mins to get out there.....im on the crew.... the rigs you buy from the tackle stores.. or you can make then up.. ( easier to buy from stores.. ) the rigs have lights attached that are activated as soon as they hit the water ( 10 bucks each ).... the winch was manual ( hard work but when you have a fish on the end its easier.. or in my case im pretty fit and manage ok ).... the bloke with us had an electronic winch was set on slow retrieval..... we lost a good size one on the electric winch... big one too.. the swell was around 3.5 occasional huge set... be careful......always..... a long day.... we were out for albies..... cubed for hours for sod all! lucky we had the winches as a back up!!! good luck pal! ive only been to brown hald a dozen times.... pays to go out with an experienced crew always... im still learning mate
  15. []that gemfish recipe sounds great..... mind you most of the fillets have mysteriously dissappeared from the freezer!!!! will try that gemmie recipe 4 sure... thanks bro!!

  22. I agree I used to clean up on the tailor 20 years ago... big greenbacks on pillies..mainly down the south coast of new south wales. I still maintain they are one of the nicest easting fish in the sea.... smoked or garnished in lots of butter and grilled.....cant beat them freshly caught and bled... yummy.... I saw some in botany bay off yarra point last week when I was swimming.... medium sized ones....good luck..
