  1. Well Today is my 25th Birthday and I did not have any real plans so i decided to go a do a Morning fishing session at Swansea,

It almost ended up being a short trip as I started to feel sick in the stomach... But luckily there were ammenities not too far away so fellow fisherman always take note of where the ammenities are....

Now for this fishing part of it.. Actually the fishing started out to be quite poor.

I got there around 4am but did not start fishing till around 5.

I was catching small snapper and bream way under legal size so I was releasing them back into the water as you do, I was then contenplating packing up and going home then suddenly I felt a decent pull on my rod and to my surprise I had a 35cm Leather jacket on the end of it. so the fishing continued...

It was now around 7am and I was getting bored of catching small fish when suddenly I felt my line pull It was just a average one and then felt like a snag so I was quite upset and wound the rod up in a frustrated manner but to my surprise the snag fought back hahaha I must have a heavy fish on the line but I did not expect anything special as when you catch toadfish they are quite heavy so I thought I had one but I fought the fish and to my pleasant surprise had my first thumper bream ever on the end of it.

The Bream is about 45cm in length and just over a kilo.

The Leather Jacket is 35cm in length but i did not bother weighing it.

I was all excited now so I kept fishing but kept catching small fish again.

I decided to call it a day around 8.30 allthough I did not bring much home but at least its a feed & I was very happy with my catch as I am not a real experienced fisho and I hope to get better over time. post-9366-1231033997_thumb.jpg

    GOOD ONE MATE

  2. reckon its from trawlers - when coming back from port stephens last time we passed a couple trawlers sorting their catch - a slick of twitching leatherjackets and puffer fish for a good 500m or so left behind each boat.

We scooped afew up and used them as bait...

A FEW OF THE GAME FISHERMEN OUTWIDE HAVE COME ACROSS TUMULTUOUS BLANKETS OF DEAD JACKETS.... APPARENTLY DUE TO THEIR BURGEONING NUMBERS .. THEY HAVE SIMPLY RUN OUT OF FOOD... SEEMS TO BE THE COMMON LINE OF THINKING..

  3. That's a nice fish and better than my PB, Or do you have a really small foot and are keeping under sized blackfish haha :1prop:

I LIKE THAT ONE MATE..... THATS A SIZE 11 THONG......MOBILE PHONE PICTURES NEVER COME OUT THAT GOOD AND I LEFT MY DIGITAL CAMERA AT HOME ( ISNT THAT ALWAYS THE WAY! )

  4. NICE

  6. Hey Raiders,

Took my son down to local spot yesterday evening.

Decided to move around a bit from our usual spot in Pyrmont both sick of the party boats cutting through our lines etc..

I sent two fat livies (yakkas) out for a swim at one of the deeper holes that we located whilst Jayden went with a finesse approach of a very lightly weighted rig close in to the wharf.

No takers on the livies but Jayden managed a 27cm bream. :1prop:

It was fun watching him steer the fish away from the snaggy pylons with clever use of a tight drag and rod work.

Next time i go drop a line i think i will take a leaf out of his book and use a lighter setup.

    Anyway heres a pic

    nice bream mate

    Stay safe all

  7. Fished Bate Bay yesterday. First stop was Shark Island. No action either on the bottom or surface but the surfers were enjoying a large swell & some nice tunnel waves.

With the wind predicted to come from the N/E headed to Osborn Shoals. Unable to locate & considering the less than exciting action on past visits did not waste time searching it out.

Motored towards Meries Reef with the view to do some bottom bashing but a lot of white water & the occasional boomer rolling in decided to give it a wide berth

Headed East to try for some Flathead. Several drifts only produced the occasional small Flatties.

Kept moving around , water temp was 20 degrees with the occasional patch of 21 degrees.

We found them & a hour or so later had 8 nice size fish on board.

During this run the bait fish surfaced about 50 mt away. Commenced a berley trail & soon had a large No. at the boat. They were slimies , about 5" long. Caught a few , removed the fillets , the Flatties loved them with one drop resulting in a double hook up of two large keepers

With the wind increasing & now early afternoon decided to head for home. Stopped just North of Jibbon for a drift. A Sweep , reasonable Trevor & another reef fish , all went back.

Overall a great day on the water

    Geoff

well done.... cant go wrong with flathead mate.. they are the ants pants.. I remember when I was a kid we used to catch flatties on the bacon rind..... no probs...... cant go wrong with slimies though !

  8. did you see the razor sharp `scalpel`blades near the tail?- that's how they got their name, lucky you didn't get slashed by that!. BBQ Surgeon...hmmmm might have to try that next time

yeah i noticed their blades.... i thought they may have derived there name from them. the spines on their backs are also razor sharp and mate they sting like hell. My hand was swolen from two spikes from them. will know better next time.....re the bbq...... very nice....i recommend them...

  9. Surgeons are great tasting- better than Blackfish. Did it put up a good fight?

WENT HARD ALRIGHT..... BENT MY HOOK BUT I LANDED HIM...... I GOT SPIKED BY HIM THOUGH.. AND IT WAS MORE PAINFUL THAN A BABY FLATHEAD SPIKE....... NOT BAD ON THE BBQ..... I PREFER THE BLACKIES BETTER.....

  10. Managed a fish at a place called milk beach around vaucluse way........ not a bad spot.. managed a few blackfish, 2 fan bellied jackets, bream and a surgeon fish...... geez they go hard.......... ready to be cooked in olive oil, butter and some lemon... anyone tried surgeon fish before... the filletts are really transparent. they look ok.... cheers tight lines to all!

  11. nothing worse than getting sick...... try slowly chewing on that crystallized ginger you guy in the shops.... ginger beer helps too.......watch milk in tea/coffee before during trips outside..... good luck pal.....

  12. Hey Raiders,

My son & I decided that last night was a good time to have a go drop a line into Sydney Harbour.

Got down to spot just a most other fishos were packing up and leaving

(no need to fight for a place to cast yay!) :biggrin2:

Anyway had some ups and some downs last night.

Down's was boat traffic (namely the party boats) with people on the vessels yelling drunken crap at my son Jayden and I as they floated past.

Also got my line caught on the prop of one of the part boat vessels that came past lost a rig and luckily only 20ft of line. :ranting2:

Up's was Jayden and I both were able land a fish each (see pic's).

Jayden was absolutely stoked about his catch as he was getting bored up until this point. A whole block of chocolate helped keep him interested and fully of energy!!! (see the chocolate around his mouth in his photo!!!) :1prop:

We both were dirty about a bigger flattie that struck my 7ft spin road and got the hook loose just as we were lifting him out of the water onto the jetty. :1badmood:

I rushed getting her landed onto the jetty by trying to lift her up with the rod tip rather than getting the gaff out. Bad move!

She gave me an awesome fight with heaps of big head shakes and a short run toward the shallow snags.

Flattie would have measured about 70cm + from what a local onlooker had said. :05:

I hooked her on a whole dead pillie using a 4/0 suicide hook on a fairly short paternoster rig.

We both laughed about how i lost this big flattie !! :074:

We both will be back to get another big flattie some other day!

    Stay safe all.

BAD LUCK ABOUT THE BIG LIZARD.. I LOST A BIG ONE A WHILE BACK SIMILIAR STORY.. LEFT MY EXCTENDABLE NET AT HOME... THATS WHY THEY STAY BIG. THERE NOT SILLY .. I FISHED BOTANY BAY NEAR THE COOKS RIVER OUTLET WITH ABOUT 50 OTHER FISHOS YESTERDAY FOR ONE SMALL BLACK BREAM.... YOU DID OK LAST NIGHT..

  13. Hi All,

Been out the last couple of weekends and had some great succsess using soft plastics , I am not going to tell you where this special spot is unless you are willing to offer large amounts of money , over the last couple of weekends I have tried using bait but no cigar not even a touch , throw out the softies and bang , all fish photed where caught in the same place , all on lures but the trick is the colour , I will tell you that all these fish where caught using the colour green.

    Cheers

    Matt

great effort mate.. I remember getting a similiar hall about 12 months ago in the backwaters of a place called wondabyne.. only accessible by train or boat.... and on plastics too.....I used the pumpkin seed colours..went home with a good feed...

  14. Hi all.... went out bottom bashing off sydney today and got nothing but chinaman bloody leatheries and a few undersize reddies.... must have re-rigged about 20 times between the three of us....at one stage the boys actually hooked a couple of the rigs that had previously been bitten off!Did anyone else go out and have the same problem? Wondering if they are up at long reef or the whale or spots like that...keen to put some hours on my boat but not if it means going through that much gear... all in all a good day on the water with great weather and seas but shame about the fishing.... :05:

mate I know the feeling..... down south around culburra at the moment its clear of them.....long way to go though for a fish..

  15. Well Like Most Anglers I Have Been Hanging To Get out On The Waters!!!

This Morning We Docked Of At Cabarita Boat Ramp & Slowly Cruised Threw Towards The Harbour

Just Before The Bridge There Was Some Surface Action Bublbling,

We Quickly Threw In Our Chrome Lures In & Got A Hit Instantley !!!

The Water Was Swarming With Tailor Scattered Every Were My Fishing Partner Was using Plastic Stick Lures

& He Also Was On Quick Smart,

We Continued Casting For About 5 MinS Or So & WERE Hopeing That There Were KINGIES Below The Tailor

But Unfortuenetly We Were Not Lucky Enough To Catch 1

The Fellow Beside Us Had Cought A Nice Size Kingy As We Had Just Arrived,

We Cought 3 Tailor In Total & Lost A Few !

We Packed Up & Headed To The Heads Between North & South head Hopeing We May Find Some Salmon On The Surface But Also We Were Let Down There

BUT There Was A Massive Whale Cruising Threw So We Got To Get A Awsome Glimps Of The Beautifal Creature...

We Threw Out Some Lures Trolling Back To Our Original destination It Took A While To Get There LOL

Stoped At the Sticks Had A Few Casts With No Luck There Either

So Basically I Think The Kingies Are Not Fully Active BUT They Are Around & Anglers Are Getting Them !!!

    3 Tailor For A Day :1prop:

I Suppose Its Better Than Nothing

ME AND MY BRO JUST RETURNED FROM CULBURRA AND WE JIGGED THE BANKS WITH FERVOUR FOR F...ALL WHERE ARE THE KINGS... MIND YOU THE WATER TEMP WAS ONLY 13.5 DEGREES... MAYBE TOO COLD?
