  1. Hey guys, I havent been on this forum for ages, but yesterdays antics bought me back. A few mates and I were having a few beers on my balcony yesterday and we hear a very loud splashing sound, we run down to the wharf and see a massive school(70+) of Kingies chasing very small pilchards. They stayed around for about 15 minutes, we tried throwing lures at them and they were totally scared off. I have never heard of kingies comming that far down the parra, let alone a big school.
  2. G'day guys, Well got back into the fishing about 3 weeks ago and, yesterday I was fishing over a large hole at Putney...had some freash squid and sat there for about 2 hours...... no jewie action but caught a massive flathead, (swallowed a huge squid strip and 8/0).. I though I had caught a huge lizard about 2 weeks ago, but this one was about twice as big... put him in the live tank but ended up throwing him back. I seem to be fishing on the very bottom of the river, is this the best? or should I be a few meters up? Also is there any must have brands when talking rod holders, downrigger(Scotty?) and depth sounder?? Cheers guys
  3. still can't get rocketing rabbit but have a dig at my second attempt here.... i knew it was good but wow, maybe i should be driving a Top Fueler with that effort.... and no i didn't photo shop it, just got lucky i think
  4. I must be doing something wrong.... Is there a place you can buy fresh squid, all bait stores seem to have frozen Hawkesbury squid. I pretty much can't get a squid West of the harbour bridge atm. Is anyone else finding it tough??
  5. I wish I could find fishing as easy as golf..... played off scratch for over 2 years.
  6. My brother and I were fishing on wednesday near where your talking about, and we couldn't beleive how many baitfish, and taylor were around..... Some very big splashes from fish too, and a few squid around also.

    Mystery Fish

G'day guys, went for a fish today. After fishing the harbour, we were coming back down the river and decided to throw a butterflied yakka out under the gladesville bridge. Anyway, within second this fish smashed the yakka and was pulling very hard, we didn't know what it was...it was a great fighting fish I don't think it is a specie of shark, but not sure Any thoughts?
  10. just went then and I obviously had no luck.... not a single strike. 6 yakkas, ended up only using two of them.....
  11. thanks very much guys....... i am going to try the suggestions. Just went to the tackle store and got some trebles, so I might give those ago as well. Thanks for the replies, i'll give it a try tonight. A few times they have just left the head. But last night I had half the head and half the body taken, from a single bite. Just didn't take the hooks.
  12. G'day guys, Seems as though I can't get a decent hookup with a jewfish. The past two nights I have had really good takes from my yakka and whiting, but the hook doesn't get caught and I am either left with nothing but hooks, or a massive chunk of the fish missing. I have three rigs out there, All on live yakkas, 1m leader 60lb... 7/0 and a 2/0 stinger. 1m leader 60lb... two 7/0's 1m leader 60lb....single 7/0 I am fishing off a large wharf... Are my hooks to big, or am i doing a few things wrong???? Any help would be great. Dave

    Catfish

caught one of them for the first time ever on thursday..... omg can't beleive how ugly they are..... remembered this thread and din't get near it. ..... it no joke would have weighed 3kg, it was huge. to say we got a mixed bag was an understatement..... 1 catfish 1 rock fish (or something) 2 taylor 15+ bream 2 flounder and a hand foll of toads. 0 Jewfish This is off a wharf in parra river.
  14. Just come in from fishing the Parra River - Caught two live bait, taylor and yakka......... about 7.00pm riged them up. they died while i was fishing for more. So sliced them up 'butterfly' and sent them out.... I reeled them in ; about 8:00 - the taylor just had the head left...... - the yakka was gone. I was shocked. So what am i doin wrong.... When they are dead i put a hook through the mouth, and a hook through the tail and acking like a stinger. (7/0 Hooks, no sinker) Still ended up catching alot of bream and a nice flathead. (while trying to catch live bait) So it wasn't all bad. Cheers Dave
