  1. A mate pulled 11 snaper off the rocks INSIDE the bay - nuts. I usually fish of the inside of Tomaree head as it is easily accesible and there are always good tailor on sunrise/sunset, blackfish and good bream after dark. The keen beans walk the bush trail around tomaree to the ocean side. I am told there are usualy heaos of yellowtail an garfish for lives hanging around the ledge and you get great kings and cobia and in the old days YFT. One day I will give it a go. Soanker
  2. Here's another Chinese proverb - "Man who wants pretty nurse must be patient" I actually i guess that's comes off better verbally but it's not bad.
  3. PW you funny bastard. having somehow tipped 7/7 last weekend I will throw in my 2 cents. Auckland over Otago please. Blues were unmotivated but have too much talent for Highlanders. Waratahs - they have excelled in their last two tours of SA losing only 1 of 5 I think. Sharks will lach confidence and tried combinations. Can't wait to see the bill the Crusaders rack up against the reds. I hope the board of the QRU gets sacked wholesale and Eddie Jones can rebuild that poor abused state of affrais. Cheers Spanker
  4. Great story. Only one person is allowed to grab my "rod", the Mate I have never caught a Jew but the basic fishing priciple for bait of throw the fish what they're looking for comes to mind. Now if this spot has plenty of whting, good chance is that's what the Jews will be chasing. Next time you catch whiting throw one back out live? I have heard the nicking the poor buggers with a knife or cutting some fins off can be a winner too, as fish can sense when prey is injured and it excites/attracts them. Cheerio Spanker
  5. My question is - where do dioxin's come from and how do we get them out of the harbour and it's rivers systems? If only this 3 month ban would be a catalyst for getting the pro's out of the harbour for good eh?
  6. Thanks Mick. My out-laws live in Wauchope, driving north we drive over several river systems and the Manning would be one of them I think. They are beautiful waterways, great to hear they are alive and well. I often wistfully imagine having the time to stop and have a fish while trying to get up north before the kids go Now that the Pro's are banned from the rivers up there do you reckon the rivers are recovering well? Dan
  7. Great report Mick - where is Manning Point? I always wondered what makes a greenback a greenback. Is it just a size thing or when their backs darken due to age/size?
  8. Blimey!!! Surely the blokes who see the biggest and most frequent catch are the pros. They must net all sorts of beasties. Going back a few decades the older blokes must have seen everything. Anyone know of a website the pros use to post pictures of beaties from the deep? Dan (Spanker)
  9. Hi Fishraiders, Inspired by another post from Saturday about Clifton, I went down with a mate last night at 8.00pm. It was 30 minutes until last light, a light breeze to keep the mozzies away and just perfect. Surprisingly there were about 15 people already when I got there. Side note - there were several fanmilies fishing for yellowtail. They had a couple of buckets fool of them and would have left with 50-60. I know there is no size or bag lmit and that these people were not doing anything wrong but it still makes you feel a little uneasy. Surely it is not sustainable for families to pul out 60 fish each regularly? What can you say? Not sure what to say about this except that thankfully it is only a tiny minority of the population who like to do this or the seas would be a barren watery desert. Anyway I through out some prawn on the bottom and, at the mention of some taylor being present earlier, threw some chrome around on my spin stick. Tiny taylor first cast. Only one more in the next 20 minutes then it went quiet. A fella I was chatting to (who incidentally admitted to being a silent Fishraider fan ) said earlier a large school of taylor had come into the bay before disappearing, He had a very impressive flattie to maybe 70cm -yum! - and confirmed that Clifton usually fishes better early mornings when you can get all sorts of speciies coming through - nice guy. Things went quiet - we ended up throughing out prawns, pillies and a slab of taylor for zip after that. You know it is dead when your pillies comes back in pristine condition after 3 casts and 30 minutes in the drink All in all a magnificent night, will try it again in the morning before long. Cheers Spanker
  10. Great effort there mate!!! I have been down to CG a few times in the past. Sometimes there are schools of yellowtail sotimes tailor, soetime heaps of jackets - probably most often very quiet. It seems to be very heavily fished to you either get lucky with pelagics of get nothing. You have inspired me to head down tomorrow night with a few of the lads. Warching the sun go down, the stars come out, all while soaking some baits - does it get any better? Spanker
  11. Good post mate. Is finding a 'good' spot a matter of hit and miss or do you use the sounder to look for holes and drop offs?
  12. As Clutch said excellent report there mate. I know what you mean by actually being able to see the blighters spoils the fishing. I had a seafood platter on a restaurant where you through the scraps in the water, which was boiling with enormous bream. I came back later and had a go from a nearby jetty but ended up fooling around instead of applying the usual craft. I find beach fisging so frustrating as my line is endlessly being washed around with the current and casting is never ending. If you throw out in a gutter does your line stil wash in? Dan
  13. Wow, nice going mate . Give us some more details on the action amd the conditions Dan
  14. Good on you James, sounds like good fun. I have only been fishing in QLD once, and what did I catch? Catfish!!!!

    Carp....

Well having blabbed about 'all of these carp' I feel like my reputationin is in tatters. hehe. The fishing was quiet to put it midly but is was excellent to finally put some faces to names. Iain and Jimbo both got top points for telling disgusting yet hilarious stories. I am determined to sneak down to the river and take some pictures of the carp so you all know I am not full of sh%#t Thanks Joe for making it all happen. At the very least we did leave about 400 slices of bread in the river and the carp will be fatter than ever when I finally catch one. Spanker PS Jimbo's farts were pretty impressive too.
  24. Getting wet? I am counting on some of the lads falling in, raining or not!
