  7. What a day it was today of Sydney Took one of my best mates out today And my 2 boys . Last time I fished with Vaughany he lost a big yellowfin at the boat on 24kg after 1hr fight so he was very keen to have another go at big yella. Started fishing at 9.00 same place as we caught last fish 2 weeks ago 8 miles south of browns found heaps of birds lots of fish splashing thinking this is going to be easy today looks very fishy But this went on for hours so frustrating no hook ups did hear few blue marlin getting caught and few yellowfin around the 70kg at the bait station - thinking should of went north but hear now and it looks fishy and current racing south still chasing birds not far away from southern canyons now temp got warmer going south 21.18 12.00 out of no were bang shoty goes of biggest splash took the evil cockroach on15 it took 400m in the first 2 min then gone jumping away with one of my favourite lures broke on the leader . So a change of lures and put a 24 kg on the shoty this time and a marlin lure on it Mogoo yellow lumo. 1.10 pm just cruising through the birds again bang shoty screaming of no jumping marlin maybe yellowfin Vaughany grabs the rod and says this thing is huge so me and the boys wind the other rods in then I get on the wheel the fish is still on top water 15 min later get him near the boat and away he goes 100m straight down still haven't seen him yet 15min later he comes up been a bit of tug a war now he stays on top and we see him and he's big after 40min I grab the trace and gaff in the tail ( I need a bigger gaff ) I wasn't letting go Vaughany put the rod down and grabbed a tail rope and the rest is history .vaughany got revenge on big yella big hi 5s all round my boys r excited how big he is . No weight but measured him 151cm. Long. 105cm girth maybe 60kg he was fat . Caught him 5 miles se of southern canyons in 700m

  15. Went out today started at browns trolling made my way south found 4or5 boats working an area with lots of birds and bait 6-8 miles south .the morning had lots of jelly beans 5-10kg caught on Christmas tree lures we lost a small one at the boat on a xrap it was hit or miss with the fish they would come up then gone again in a minute.i new there was fish here so stayed there for the tide change2.30. Plus agood temp break 18.6. - 20.3 in two miles . Right on cue 2.30 big fish come up to play a football field of yellowfin launching into the air 1-2m. Chasing souries everywhere amazing straight out of the blue planet doccos we were in the middle of this only boat for a mile lasted 10 minutes no hook up I was getting worried the fish had gone then bang out of no where the corner goes of xrap mackerel colour this was a better fish I had my 6yr old son with me just the two of us so I grabbed the rod he started bringing the other rods in then hopped on the wheel for me the first run was good then went again hard when close to the boat then took my time and when he was tiring I put the rod in a holder grabbed the trace then gaffed him not the best shot in the tail but I wasn't letting go. I pulled him over the side a bit heavier than I thought and struggled got him in hi five my little mate 35-40kg. 145cm long Never forget that day with Noah's first tuna and his 8yr old brother went to school missed out So get out there tuna time the old saying don't leave fish to find more fish work the tide change
  16. I will be out chasing the tuna leaving Botany Bay anyone else lucky to have tommorrow of work . Will be on 21 call sign. Nauticstar
  17. Well done mate good fin for your first. Good lure for small fin and albies but won't hold a big tuna looks like u need a new lure. !!
  18. Mate bad luck but that's fishing.18kg of drag on 24 mono is to much should of been 8kg 1/3 of line class . When the fish stays down deep and you can't budge him drive away use your boat just like the big game boats but drive forward about 100m. Always keep your boat in and out of gear when fighting the fish and be patient .we have caught plenty of 100kg + marlin on 15kg and 24kg line - mono , from a trailer boat. When I said we its a team effort chasing marlin driver and angler. It's ashame it wasn't,t a small black 30kg for your first a lot easier. Good luck next time Stickybeak
