  1. Well done there KFC, nice to see those big girls swim off again.
  2. well done there GT, nice boat, solid fish and great rod, I have one of those and love it.
  3. Stucatz, what a difference a day makes, see my post from saturday which was electric. I have had 5-10 quiet ones for every good day though, perversely, seems to make it sweeter when it is going off. Cheers
  4. Well done Pete, good post. Love those flatty fillets...
  5. Thanks Dan, I wish I could join in. Not complaining though, saturday was an absolute blast. Really going to have to manage my expectations now...... I bet I go zip for the next outing. Having said that, I will be living off this one for a while. Cheers Thanks Mark, I have not tried them on the fly yet, somehow I think my 6 weight might be a little light for these bruisers. Bring on summer.
  6. 50/50 Josh to start with and bigger fish at the surface, smaller models on the DR, but later in the morning the DR seemed to be getting hits more often though. They were boiling on the surface at one point just off the back of the boat beating up my recently released surface yakka!
  7. Better luck next time Dave, downrigging from a canoe, that's awesome. I lost one yesterday around the wire rope, I just didn't have the presence of mind to wind the bugger up. In a canoe, thats another thing. Quite a hit rate there!
  8. well done mate, have tried black fishing once now and struggled. Too many forms of fishing and not enough time!
  9. could have been worse, I have left the tackle box at home before, and was out past the heads when I realised...)()**&&*%^&$##!!!
  10. like the great man Austen Powers say...... shagadelic baby, well done.
  11. from NH to Bluefish. Thanks mate
  12. Hey Raiders, When out for a short notice session yesterday with a mate from work. Pulled up to get some livies and am always encouraged when that doesn't take too long. Started off with a couple out the back, one high and one low. It wasn't long before both yakkas got stolen in very short order. We hurriedly rebaited and kept going but in a matter of minutes the reel goes buzzzzzzz....... I just can't get enough of that sound. We had obviously stumbled across a couple of hungry ones. But we would have never anticipated getting amongst a really hot kingie bite and spent the next couple of hours fighting the beasts. The tally, 8 boated, 3 kept (72, 78 and 84cms), lost 6 or so during the fight. Had a nice one wrapped around the downrigger wire and I could feel him sawing himself to freedom, very frustrating. Normally that would have really pissed me off, what with some many on the bite, it seemed less annoying. Even ran out of yakkas and had to go back and get some more to continue the fight... I have not seen anything like it, amazing, all before midday. Plenty of high 5s, handshakes and yelling all round. Just ate a feast of kingfish tonight. The good thing about all this is that the little lady never seems to mind me dissappearing to go wet a line if I return with a feed, problem is, not all days are like yesterday unfortunately. Here's a pic of the couple I kept. Bring on summer....

    Reds

Raiders, I was up in Port Stephens with the family over the school holidays and got in a couple of trips out of the port to Broughton Island, still some good red action to be had there. This shot is of one that we released as we had three like him to take home already. The little noah (on live slimey) also went back and had my dad jumping for joy reeling him in. Reds all caught on the drift with cut slimeys and squid. Cheers
  14. nice one Mark, must give it a try, you cant eat the yakkas if you dont catch something! Well done.
  15. well done guys, sounds like a great session. conditions in the photos look superb.
  16. guys, mid week fishing, i need one of those jobs. Good post, well done.
  17. very nice work, got a special recipe??
  18. well done, very jeolous, fathers day eating kingies, what could be better??? Maybe fishing for kingies on fathersday? erroll
  19. Thanks Raiders, I did end up checking the old haunts but found a fair few yakkas at north head. Still on the big side but better than nothing a landed a 70cm king which seemed like a fair trade to me..... Actually got hit on two rods at one and lost one in the process. Thanks again guys.
  20. well done that thing is a horse!
  21. Hey Raiders, Anyone having luck getting livies? I have been struggling . None on monday in Watsons Bay and none at Balmoral island. Did catch a couple of huge yakkas inside North Head but they were too big for live use, but were fine as cut baits. Thoughts?? Cheers Erroll
  22. great post. I'm too afraid to use the rodholder on my cannon, just too expensive. Thats a great looking king, well done.
  23. good read... fishing after work, well done...I need a different job!!
  24. Thanks for the welcome Raiders and the tip of the yakka spot. Whilst the yakkas have worked well, I will have to give the squid a go too. I can't wait to get out there this long weekend. Four days of fun. I will have to spend some time with the family though.
  25. G'day Raiders, Been a guest for a while so thought I should join in the fun. Went out on the harbour on sunday (how good was sunday!) with my visiting father to get amongst it. Got off to an early start and went ot get some livies but got swamped by sweep, boy are they aggressive little buggers! I got at least 5 of those for every yakka. Very frustrating. Anyway, took off to North Head and started with one low on the downrigger and another on the surface. 20 minutes in the downrigger rod goes nuts. My Dad is onto it but we were just clowns fumbling to get the situation under control, meanwhile the fish was emptying my TLD15. Finally my Dad pulls the drag up to sunset and bang.....gone.... a huge one missed. Not one inch of line retrieved. Certainly got the adrenalin going though. We push on and another 30minutes later, the surface yakka gets snuffed, this time we were fractionally more composed. ALthough I would have to say there was some tentative pumps and winds after loosing the big boy earlier. After a good struggle it is boatside only to be spooked by three false net swipes sending it to the deep again, fair dinkum, we would have made the circus proud. Anyway, finally boated it, PB at 85cms and two very happy fishos. Definitely livin the dream. Sorry about the formatting, still getting the hang of it. And no, the tomato sauce did not go anywhere near it. erroll
