  1. Hey Geoff, I hiked in to a section of the kowmung a few kilometres down stream, on the way in the water looked very fishy, got to the campsite, dumped the packs and ran straight over to the river to check it out. hiding in the vegetation beside the river i spied 2 of the biggest fish id seen in the kowmung, 2 of the biggest carp. what a dissapointment. i managed to land one on a wolly bugger. my theory is that the lower sections of the river are to warm (we did spend the afternoon swimming in it), and the trout are either further up stream or back in the dam where they can find cooler water. Id be interested to hear what you think? mark.
  2. thinking of heading up that way sometime in the new year if you guys are keen mark.
  3. Awesome by catch where were you fishing?
  4. awesome trip, glad to see that kanagra creek is still looking so good, that is a very nice sized rainbow, What dries were you using? mark.
  5. Matt, i must admit it is very exciting to here of someone fishing one of my favourite places, especially cause your doing it on the fly. if your heading down from narrow neck ridge you should try walking down yellow pup ridge( not 100% sure on the name but check your maps). it will put you on the coxs river just downstream of the junction with kanagra creek. not far up kanangra creek is a flat campground on the left, just below mt strongleg(check that one too). kanagra creek is a beautiful stream perfect for a 6weight and does hold some good fish. i havent been down that way in a couple of years but there has been a bit of rain so the river should be in good condition. you can drink the water straight out of the creek but i usually carry a water purifier with me. even puritabs will work on the water in the coxs as a last resort. You could probably fish for 3 days on kanangra creek and its tributries. if your in the area its worth checking out. mark.
  6. steve, ive fly fished the barrington tops only once the best luck i had was at the polblue swamp. there is a very small creek that runs through it. the trout were only small but a lot of fun. my folks say they sometimes see other flyfishes up there and i think most of the rivers in that area hold fish, all the best keep us posted with how you go.
  7. there is some great dry fly fishing on most of the smaller streams between ebor and dorrigo. alot of the time you only need a royal wulff but take a few others just in case. on cooler days small bead head nymphs do account for their fair share of fish. hope this helps im heading up the weekend after easter so keep me posted. cheers mark.
  8. are you fishing fly or lures?
  9. despite the weather it still sounds like a good day. sure beats working. mark.
  10. its a shame to put in that much effort and only get a rat but thats fishing mark
  11. Hello Raiders, Was able to take the weekend before last off, as a long weekend and the stepfather suggested we go fly fishing. I said i would take him up to the new england area as i have fished there many times and know the quality of fishing would be alot better then down jindy way. we spent the best part of 4 days fishing many of the small creeks in the area, both prefering to fish the small stuff. the trout were everywhere and usually more then willing to accept a descent presentation. fly choice was not so critical and i caught most fish on a royal wulf. although one particular stream proved difficult and the fish were only taking nymphs.(i found this out the hard way and had spent most of the day fishing with the dry with limited success). the fish sizes varied some that wouldnt fit across the palm and your hand with the biggest fish caught going 47cms. a great weekend spent fishing in some of the most beautiful country in this great land of ours. im hoping to get amongst some of these harbour kings on thursday. good luck . mark. p.s will try and post some pics later

  13. mate couldnt tell you what it is but ive caught thousands of them at north head when ive been after yakkas
  14. with the weather so good on sunday the wanted to go down and sunbake at clontarf. perfect. we can take the boat out and i can leave her there (fortunatly the sisters wanted to come) and nip out and go for a fish. after reading slinky's article on catching squid i took his advice and went out to target only squid. each spot only got 10 casts, and then onto the next. in one hour had four squid and lost 2 more close to the boat. biggest going 35cm cleaned the other 3 much smaller. still thats a great feed and some great baits for next time im out. p.s thanks for the article slinky.
  15. vince congrats on the kingies ive been chasing them for a while now with no luck but it looks like things are starting to pick up, cheers, ps where in mh.
  16. managed to get thursday off work so i thought id head out and try my luck. started at balmoral for squid none there, none at cobblers but first 2 casts at middle head and im on to 2 squid. things were starting to look good. so off to north head to get some yakkas and found them no trouble. so esky full of yakkas and 2 squid within the first hour and a half. after such a promising start i tried numerous locations for nothing. Clarke island nothing, numerous channel markers nothing even tried what i think is sailors bay wreck (maybe netic can let me know for sure) nothing. normally you might say thats fishing but i got to be doing something wrong. i normally get out every week if the lets me. and i havent been getting anything i hope this summer can produce the goods.
  17. king slayer judging by the description in the report and the photo im pretty sure i know the spot. ive got a mate who fishes there at least once a week depending on the last fri he landed a 96cm jew. thats the 6th decent size jew his got within the past 2months. he as also got an 80cm+ flathead and 70+ kingy all on live yakkas. so keep it up. mark
  18. finished work at 3 and decided to go and fish the harbour. launched the boat at roseville and was at balmoral looking for yakas by 4 (gotta love that). had to work hard for the yakkas only managing 2 in 30 mins. so headed to a channel marker that ive seen kings around before, sent one livey down and started throwing some unweighted strip baits at the marker and into a kingy of around 45cms. hang around the marker for an hour and only see one more fish. decide to call it quits and back to roseville by 630. if any one has any tips on catching regular kingys they would be much appreciated as i have only managed 3 throw backs all summer. cheers.
