  1. Yes they sure did the job as we got plenty of hits, dropping a few fish and i got busted once or twice aswell. we were using cut down banana prawns. had heaps of bait at $13/kg too. We fish for bream inside. I find any spot where the channel necks down a bit. anchor to the side out of the way of traffic and burley up. we went towards north west arm yesterday. drifted outside for the flathead in about 25m of water. just straight out the front.
  2. Went out today with a mate on the hacking. Fished inside for bream on chunks of supermarket raw prawns (too lazy to go get bait today) and did some drifting outside also. Ended up being a great afternoon after a drizzly morning. wind was blowing a gale at one point but it didn't stop the fish. ended up with 3 decent keeper bream and two flathead. bout to cook em up on the bbq now

    Help Please...

Thats what im now wondering... however at the time when I replaced it, it started running on all 3 cylinders again and I got my power back. I noticed a lack of power the last 2 times I went out but did not check it. So its possible something is causing the ecm failure. I guess, and at least I hope all will be revealed when I get it serviced.

    Help Please...

One of the cylinders (the one that has the clean plug) is not firing at all. To me this explains why there is a large proportion of unburnt fuel and oil in the exhaust since 1/3 of that which goes in to the motor is not being burnt. Its not the plug since when i swap plugs the same cylinder is still buggered. Might be the ECM module but I replaced that about 3 months ago when I found that one cylinder wasn't firing. So maybe its something before the ECM module. So i'll take her to teh doc since thats where my knowledge ends. Thanks for your help

    Help Please...

Well had another look this morning. Lower two of the three sparkys are super fouled up. But the top one is completely clean. It did start first up and ran OK for a bit. Still a bit of fuel coming from the exhaust port. But when I tried to start up again just 5 mins later it wont go. Gonna clean up the plugs and see what goes.

    Help Please...

So it starts last week when I go to take the boat out and after taking an eternity to start it spews out smoke like never before. I know its normal on startup for a two-stroke to put out a little smoke but this was coming out for about 5 or 10 mins and especially when i gave her some throttle. So i called it a day and put it back on the trailer..no fishing that day. Started it up again when we got home and it started straight away and hardly any smoke, even with throttle. so im thinking this is weird and ill try her again in a week. So today I fell like taking the boat out for a flick and figure i better start her up and she how it runs. after many attempts it just wouldn't kick over. so i look at the motor and notice an excessive amount of oil coming out of this port shown below.. i cleaned it up and notice that there is fuel in the mix there aswell. so i try one more time and it starts drippin out again but doesn't kick over.. serial plate. its a Mercury 2 stroke 40hp, 2001 built, oil injected. so can anybody shed some light on what would cause the oil/fuel to leak from this port in excessive amounts. (im talking a continual drip whilst i try to kick it over). Considering the excessive smoking last week I can at least draw the conclusion that the leak would continue whilst the motor is running.. just looking for some advice before i take it to the doctor..

    "forked"

Rescue attempt? Could you not just jack it up using the forks (do they push down as hard as they can pull up) and slip as much timber as is needed under the front wheels spanning the gutter??
  8. top camping spot that too if ur into light campin where ya pack up b4 the sun up....
  9. But I lost a couple of heavy fish because of it. I find that in the hacking if I up the line class then on average I pull less fish (and less big fish). By the time I caught the flathead I had 4lb leader to the 2lb line. Surprisingly that was all on prawns (bait shop not servo). I wanted to go pumping but we got caught up during the day and didn't get to the flats in time to collect them. Yeah thanks jewgaffer. I have started to notice this and so try my best to hit it in these conditions when I can.
  10. Here is the pic that it took my mate 2 weeks to pass on. Better late ey Note that the fish were caught just before dusk but by th time we got back to camp and set up it was then dark.
  11. Yeah its great on the way up to the needles. Go up on a high tide and just float along castings plastics at the banks and retrieve them back into the deeeper water. Have had good action in the past with this and sometimes its quite visual if the fish are in the shallow water.
  12. For sure. I have had plenty of success on flatties in shallow water to bout 3 m or so but am very much interested in pointers on chasing bream/reds and how to employ successfully them in deeper reefy water.
  13. Despite the crappy weather the boys and I decided to head out for a fish and camp on the Port Hacking over this weekend. We left about lunch on Saturday and got straight into it heading out to near the junction of the North West Arm/Lilli Pilli area. Over the few hours we caught a few good specimens of bream, a few under and a few over the limit. I had a few heavy bust offs since I fish 2lb line and started out without any heavier leader. It would have been nice to see what size fish they were as they felt quite a bit heavier than those we caught. In the end we took home 5 nice keeper bream, 3 between 30-35cm. Towards the end I pulled in a nice fat 50cm flathead which gave a good tussle on the light line. Hopefully photos will follow as they are on my mates camera, not mine. We had planned to stay tonight aswell but due to the weather we have decided to head to the pub and find our nice dry beds after. Will likely fish again tomorrow and hopefully I'll be able to add a bit more to the report..
  14. Just finished eatin my salmon i caught sat morning. Poach it, my chef friend showed me over the weekend and it actually tastes quite alright. 1. Put bout 2 litres of water in a pot and put it on the heat. Add the rind of a large lemon and that of a lime. No need to grate it off. Just cut the skin of and dump it in. Add bout 20mls vinegar to the water and a few decent pinches of salt. Bring it to the simmer. Do not boil it. the water should be kept at bout 70'C for the cookin bit. just lightly steaming but no bubbles or boils showing 2. While its heating up cut of the head and tail and dump em in the pot too. Then fillet the fish. Nice large chunks bout 3 inches long. I shanked it either side of the bone and then filleted such that i removed pointless skinny bits of flesh and cut away any bones.I was left with nice large cuts of fish. 3. Once ur done filleting you can remove the fish head and tail from the pot but leave the bits of lemon and lime. The water should have been hot for bout 15 mins to let the flavour get thru it. Now immerse the fish chunks in the water. Cook them between 5 and 10mins depedning on how thick they are. 4. remove with a straining spoon thingy. not tongs else they break up..slice up the lemon and lime thinly and put em on top of the fish to serve. eat with salad or woteva else u feel like.. i actually made this lemon butter sauce which went down sweet. tasted great. I used to hate it but since being show how to poach it i actually enjoy eatin it..i ended up eatin almost half a 55cm salmon haha. also u can swap the lemon lime for woteva u want. my mate sed that the water will pick up the flavours from woteva u use. he did it with orange peel and it seemed to work great. try puttin any herb u like in the water aswell..
  15. Decided to head out Saturday morning as it looked like the weather was going to be great. Got outside the heads at about 7.30am and decided to have a drift for some flatties. Was quiet for a while before we started pullin in the fish in relatively quick succession. Found them in about 40m of water. Pulled in four good fish. 3 around the 55cm mark and 1 about 45cm. Would have kept on the drift over the patch for a bit longer except a massive bait ball got pushed to the surface about 15m from our boat. This thing was busting up the surface in a big way and would have been at least 25m by 25m wen it hit the surface. Couldn't believe my luck so my mate and I quickly put out one skirt and one hard body and I put them smack in front of the ball as it moved south. Called the hook up as my mate got on and then my skirt got taken about 5 secs later. We landed both fish and then gave it another go. Again my mate was on and was lovin the action since he hasn't been fishin much before. More boats pulled up so we decided we wouldn't eat much more than 3 large salmon between us and so we decided to move back to the drift. On the way back to our drift i spotted another smaller ball (I think the ealier one had split) and so we gave it one troll on out way past. Hooked up again but my mate pulled a little too hard and lost the fish. So 3 fat salmon between 55 and 60cm. Too much fun... On the drift again my mate managed a 35cm leatherjacket which was great but then wwe couldn't find those flathead again. All in all a great morning out with some nice fish and hot action. 4 flathead, 3 salmon and 1 leathery. All fat quality fish. Two side notes: - the salmons stomachs were filled to the brim with what I believe were leatherjacket fry (only bout 5mm long but had the telltale spike on top). Good to see them helping us out with keepin thier numbers down. - the mate i took out is a chef. I never really rated aussie salmon before (as most people I have talked to also agree they aint all that good) but he did wonders. Baked one for lunch on saturday once we got back in and it was great (although a little tough). Then had one for dinner last nite, he poached it and it tasted fantastic and wasn't tough either. So I will definitely be takin more home in the future.
  16. Gud fun game to get away from work Army/Air Force thing aint quite true. They have plenty of other fun coordination games in the application process but doin that for two minutes is not part of it.
  17. lock him up, with all of those charges being separately jailable they better bl@@dy give him some time to think about wot he was doing...
  18. Interesting. I would have thought the occy's would have been chewed up a bit more than they appear to be..
  19. Hey all, hit the hacking and outside today. Started off with some nipper pumping then went for a short drift half way to osbourne shoal from the mouth for all of 1 leatherjacket. Used pillies and tuna strips. Decided to head down south off the cliffs to get away from the breeze which was still fresh and got a few more leatheries. Berleyed up with my left over pillies and got nailed by the slimies of which we caught plenty. Kept some for bait strips for next time and moved back inside near mainbar for a shot at some whiting near the weed. Came up with nothing after about half hour so decided to call it for a day and head back. So all up a few leatheries for a feed and heaps of slimy fillets for bait but a bit disappointed thats all it was. Either way it ended up being a really nice day out once the wind dropped off so was glad to get out.
  20. Skiing does cost a bit too much ey. But it is largely variable and can be done cheaper than wot most ppl think depending on who u go with and where u go, etc. For example I dun mind stayin in 2nd rate accomodation and am going with 5 other blokes so my accom will set me back bout $120 for 5 nights. Then lift tickets for a week is $430!!! I have my own skiis and stuff so I save bout $140 there, but then i gotta pay for food and petrol and booz so I am lookin at spending bout $350 there. I will do 5 days for $1000. I wouldn't expect any cheaper thou. I wouldn't see a problem budgeting bout $1300 for a week depending how many go. On the other hand you could do a weekend trip and stay in a tent and spend bout $500. less value for money but at least u get down there. I am lucky I have relos livin down there and own my own gear so am able to do it for the cost of petrol and lift tickets alone (and a bottle of red) these days. alhtough i choose not to wen i go down with the blokes. We are now lookin at gettin 1 metre + of snow from mon-fri this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Hey guys who have posted here, check out the charts and forecast!!!! Its gonna puke over the next few days and about time aswell
  22. First time up this year will be for a week from the 21st July. Then dependant on conditions will go a few more weekends after that. Stoked that we have finally got some snow but we really do need the follow ups.
  23. Not entirely sure what exists (if anything) between you and the Bellambi ramp since I dont fish down that way but it would be the same distance for you to drive to grays point ramp (hacking estuary). or for an extra 15 mins you could be at hole in the wall (for the bay) or Wallies wharf (hacking but closer to the ocean). Check out this page and decide for yourself. http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showforum=43
  24. ill be fishing saturday morning, well at least if nothing spoils my plans..finally a short break in the weather which coincides with a weekend!!
