  1. Hi Cam, I bake most of the blackies in the oven as they are a thick solid fish and I tend to waste too much by fileting and frying. I place on alfoil marinate with small amount of olive oil, salt & pepper and a desertspoon of a special soy sauce called Ketjap Manis (a sweet flavoured soy). Wrap alfoil into a tight parcel and bake at 180c for approx 25 to 30 min depending on thickness of fish. Serve with lemon juice and left over pan fried baked potatoes. The cooking is the easy part - catching them is the tricky bit. Regards. Pafisho (Bob)
  2. After scratching up a bit of weed my son & I went to a spot on the river late Tuesday for a 2 hr session which was the best for some time . Caught a fair few & sent them back & kept some for a feed (30 to 40 cm size ) . The bite was hot for an hr or so until dark . So if a bit of weed can be found they respond well at the moment Pics to follow; Regards Pafisho
  3. Hi Roberta I have been using the pizza box method for a few weeks now for keeping my precious bit of weed . Thanks for the tip Regarding the problem you have with the hooks you could try the Hayabusa brand Jap mfg same quality as Gama or Owner part no 17351e size 8 suicide pattern . Good to see you are catching a few up there . WELL DONE . I have managed the odd one here from the G/River also but weed is scarce big time . Enjoy reading your reports . Regards Pafisho
  4. Hi katsuo I have fished around that part of the bay also mostly using lures and have caught a few good flatties and the odd bream and whiting You may be surprised what you can catch using a plastic ie( Gulp t/b worm ) in pumpkinseed colour Work the lure close to the rocks and weedbeds Good luck Regds Pafisho
  5. Hi there, The Cooks river has a few good fish up there hiding away from time to time. I drop down there once a week to check it out & have a flick from the shores. Some of my best bream have come from there. Some time ago, my friend & I caught a few large Trev's which must of been what seemed lost up there for a week or so. It certainly gave my friend & I a good time on our light gear. Some were over 45 cm. Also the odd small Jew are as far up here as Marrickville. Some people may beg to differ, although I only catch & release as there may be a problem with toxins up the river this far. Go the Gulp plastics! Regards Pafisho
  6. Hi Josh The gulp I used was the 3" minow in smelt colour as this matched the hatch of poddy mullet that were around at the time. I use gulp most of the time as they work well. PaFisho
  7. I have been a visitor to this forum for sometime now and have found Fishraider to be excellent for tips and entertaining reading. I will share an experience I had lurIng last Saturday at one of my landbased spots on the Georges River. First cast .... tap ... bang - I hook-up to nice flattie around 48cm. Put him in the bag. Second cast to same spot a twitch of the rod tip and then BANG ... line runs off at a good speed. After a time I make some ground and to my surprise with a big splash a blackfish comes into view (shock horror) with gulp plastic in his mouth. After another short run which tired him I slid him up to my feet. I called into my local B&T shop and showed my friend the catch which we popped on the scales - 1.3kg 44 cm long - so goes to show what a surprise you can have flicking the plastics. Pa Fisho
