  1. Hi all.Report #1 With my annual leave fast coming to an end it was fish at any chance. So last Friday I hit the harbour with 2 of my boy's. 2.00am and the alarm sounded out the door in 9 minutes Launch at Rose Bay 3.30am. Pulled up at Watson's Bay Wharf not long after and at first site of this Squiddie looking place, I'm thinking sh*t I need a bigger live bait tank. An hour later no Squid if I cant pull a ceph outta here I tell the boy's I'll give fishing away. Lucky I tell porky's cause I got no Squiddies but I continue to fish We then headed to Balmoral and managed 2 Yakka's. I have a seperate container that floats around in my tank it keeps my Nippers alive and well as you can see in this pic, We then got serious and headed to North Head to do battle with some surface crashing speedsters. With our destination in site we were off, The surface was alive on our arrival and after 3 cast's the fish disappeared and so did we. I trolled a few shallow diving Minnows about for ten minutes and then we headed to the Wedding cake to trial our new downrigger. That went smootly so look forward to the season hotting up to really get a good return for my $$. A couple of small fish from the Harbour smiled for a quick pic, Daniel with a Flatty Matthew with a 28cm Bream released, Weather was crap and Barometric was 1005 to 1002. We had fun, Report #2 This trip starts on Saturday at 2.00pm. Leave home do a 130klm, 3.5hr round trip from home to Mainnbar for Nippers. Kept alive with a small airator and 3 litres of salt water brought home from the same stretch of water. Changed the water on arrival at home 5.15pm. Change again at 900.pm and again at 7.00am next morning. Nippers were perfect and alive and well at 11.00am Sunday when we commenced fishing Botany Bay. I purchased a bag of Chicken gut in Anniseed and with the 30 or 40 Nippers that we had, I was planning on Bream for dinner. I had a ham sandwich for dinner. A couple of little fishies were brought aboard and obviously let go but today was a day for my little fella to have a fish and we dont get to serious on these day's it's more to give him a go and get him a fish or 2. Barometric was 2017 to 2018 whilst fishing is it just me or ? Riley with a little throw back He loves his fishing although after a few hours it's time to head home. All in all a quite couple of outings but the alternative was to be at work instead of fishing and I know we all agree a bad day's fishing is better than a good day at work. Question...Do you prefer Chook gut Natural or with the Anniseed. Russ
  2. Paul I believe they are Frog mouth Pilchards. But I've been known to be wrong on several occasions Russ
  3. Gday Richie That is the first time I have noticed the gps do that so your explanation definately has credibility. Thanks for your input mate will keep an eye on it this weekend. Russ
  4. Well what can you say when ya get out done by the best Jetty Rat in the business. Great Trev Rob 55cm bruiser We hit the Wharf at 5.15am, myself and the 2 eldest. The boat is in for a 50hr service but the fishing must go on. The bait fish around the Wharf was like a massive cloud I have not seen this much bait around for a while looks very promising. Met Lurespinner for the first time and he is as keen as his partner in crime {Rob} Kingsrule. However today as usual Rob had the golden touch and cleaned up. We had some spasmodic surface action but not anything to promising. It did have that very fishy look to it today and a few follows by a couple of healthy Kings on my oldest boys lure got the blood pumping. Left at 7.30am as has plans today bid Lurespinner and Kingsrule farewell they were still fishing as you would expect. I just bet their report will be a good one. Both young blokes are a credit to our sport. Regards Russ
  5. Hi Warnie Yeh it showed all the time. I will pay attention to it this weekend when Im out there and if it does it again I will speak to Garmin. Russ
  6. Hi Jewgaffer another mighty effort mate well done to you and Little Jewgaffer. I had planned to put the boat in at Oatley and slip up to Lugano for a Bream session on Saturday morning. But a phone call to drive a truck for a bloke put that idea to the crapper. Interesting read mate and once again you got me thinking outside the square. Russ
  7. A funny thing happened on the ocean last week. I was trolling lures 150mtr's off Kurnell cliffs and my GPS showed me about 500mtr's on land. watch out for that tree Can someone shed some light on this problem please. No wonder I didn't get a strike. My GPS unit is a Garmin 276C Thanks Russ
  8. Good session Tony. Was Chook gut all you were using. Also do you get it fresh or is the frozen stuff okay to. Russ
  9. Another entertaining report mate well done and better luck next time. Russ
  10. As I said last week Red your the King of Kings mate well done again. Your daughter is lucky to have a dad willing to let her pamper him like that. Good on ya Russ
  11. Jewgaffer your at it again. If you keep giving us this great advice we will know as much as you. I appreciate all the info I can get off this site and I take it all in. If it makes me a better fisho great. What it does do is tell me that the little places that I alway's pass, and think to myself, I'll stop there one day. Now I will make the effort and get there. Watch this space for the report. Russ
  12. Thanks fella's It was a real blast catching such a fine fish and the decision to let her go was easy. I did for a second think about those 2 big fillets on her side but she deserved better than that. I thought it was a bloody PJ when I first got colour. She was in about 2.2 mtr's of water. Jewgaffer..the lure discription on the Berkely pack say's, WALLEYE 4" Power Minnow in Glow Scales I was using a 3/8 TT jig head, heavy I know, but I wanted as much commotion on the sandy bottom that I could get. Russ
  13. Hi all Myself and my 2 eldest and my brother in law left Cooks ramp at 4.45am and headed into a very choppy Bay. Time for plan B. Sh*t what is plan B Head to Oatley Bay ramp. Launch again at 6.15am and headed off to the Bay. If it is still to windy we can stay inside Tom ugly's and fish the marina's. What a plan B Start a drift from the East side of Captain Cook and with a Southerly we head in a nice direction along the shallows. 2 Pillie strips and 2 SP's. After 30 mins we get toward the deeper areas and lucky for me I made a decision to head back toward the shore area just in front of St George Sailing club. Still throwing around a 4" Berkley Power Minnow I come up tight on this beautiful girl. 70cm and a healthy 2.25kgs. The best part is she is still out there for someone else to enjoy. I got as much enjoyment out of the release as I did the capture. What a great fish she was. We then moved to the sticks as the wind dropped away to almost zero. A few Trev's and it was time to head off. Agreat day on the Bay. The Lure that made the catch A few Trevs for dinner. A very rewarding day with a special memory and a PB. Russ
  14. Hi Kenny I have these seats in my Quintrex 460 Bowrider and they are very comfy. However I spend most of my time standing looking for fishes Russ
  15. I was a couple of days to early. I was keeping an eye out for any bird activity on Monday but not a single bit of action. Never mind maybe next time great report mate and well done. Some cracker Sambo's to. I notice you would have had a full tide and Barometric around 1017. Russ
  16. Handline with a single longshank 10.0 bits of Pillie. Berley chook pellets and tuna oil and Bread. Live bait for use that day otherwise Yakka's are let go at days end, Squid come home with me. I love muffins so the fish aint gettin any. By the way I apply sun screen with my hands that way if I dont catch anything I can blame the spf30+. Russ
  17. I have been meaning to ask this same question with the approaching summer. I guess deep down inside I knew what the outcome would be Here goes another $$$$$$ Russ
  18. There is something magical about the Bay when it is in such a good mood like today. The plan was to take the and 5 year old Riley for a morning on the Bay. We started out at Watts reef around 10.45am wind was almost zero and the water was so clear I was lookin at the fish, Trevors mainly. Feeding on my bread and Pillie pieces berley. They had no interest in anything with a hook in it. Noted the water temp in 4.5 metres of water on the reef was 18.7 which surprised me actually. I thought about Jewgaffers comment relating to water temps around Balmoral wharf and how the out going tide had warmed due to the water being heated by the weather on the day so it made a little more sense. Jeez I hope thats what you said Jewgaffer otherwise I've just made a complete tool of myself With no luck I moved to the Bare Island bommie at low tide and fished off the back of the reef and caught a respectable Snapper that was allowed to go back. Riley had by this stage found the zinc and coated his entire dial with the stuff. I promptly covered my sounder and gps very quickly. A move was in order as the comments relating to my fishing prowess started to pay out from my loved one If ya cant laugh at yourself who can ya laugh at. Decided a quick stop at the third runway was in order on the way back to Cooks, and the water temp around the runway was a whopping 19.6 I couldn't believe it so I reached over and sure enough it was swimming time. The water was delightful I told Riley I would get him a fish next trip he was pretty happy with that. At the moment I'm teaching them the art of patience so no fish is not a bad thing. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it. Russ
