  3. Looking at Saltist 40h and tyrnos 16. Fish between 50 to 100 metres for pearlies, reds, kings etc. Summer chase shallow water cobia 20 to 35 metres. trying to figure which reel covers these types of fishing best. Rod will probably be Live Fibre 8 to 13 kilo. Any input greatly appreciated. No jigging. ( too old). Cheers.
  4. One hour south, Port Maquarie Golden Lure is having one of the best starts to their Game comp ever. Plenty of Marlin,Yellowfin to 70 kilos and heaps of dollies. cheers.
  5. It's a mack. We get plenty up here at port Maquarie and sw rocks. Usually in the warmer weather as a rule.
  6. Fish out of Pt. Maquarie and Sth. West Rocks. Reasonable in chop, tracks great in a bar, very stable at rest. Best tinny i've been in. cheers.
  7. Have a 4.8 seahorse with a 60 merc, love it.

    Outboard Height ?

Many Thanks for the replies. The change of motors was strictly for grunt. When i enquired about a 60 2st I was offered the 60 4st for an extra 350.00 so i went with the 4. The motor will be raised one notch on monday, hoping that will eliminate the spraying of water all up the transom. I can live with the slower hole shot. I must admit it goes like a scalded cat and grunt is there if and when needed. Kero.

    Outboard Height ?

Hi, I have changed motors from a 50 2st merc to a 60 4st merc. on a 4.8 Stacer tiller steer. The reason was for more grunt as i cross bars such as SW Rocks for all my fishing. The 50 was set up perfectly, on to plane quickly just a little under power when encountering pressure waves on a runout. The 60 takes a lot longer to plane. It sprays water badly untill it is trimmed right up. My question is could it be set up too low? I run a 13 prop. will a change of prop plane quicker? The trimming of the 50 was never an issue, the 60 requires trimming constantly.
  10. Hi Roberta, I passed you in back creek on the thursday, you were flicking a popper. I was not sure it was you until i read your post. You sure dont take any chances when it comes to sun protection. We trolled slimeys in front of the goal for three hours for nil result. The yaks were there as well dodgeing the three pro boats who were slaying the bonnies, after nearly being run over four times we gave it a miss. Got to admire the yak fishos for there perseverance in those conditions, they deserve every fish they catch. Kero

    Bream Spot

    Limeburners, Port Macquarie.
  12. Small blacks and some really big cobes have been caught most days in the past week.
  13. Bad luck Stumpy, and after reading your post and the way you attempted your crossing it can only be put down to bad luck. The rocks bar is without a doubt one of the most dangerous bar crossings on the east coast. A few years back it rolled 5 boats in 3 days. It is a bar that is hard to study from a suitable vantage point and as a result most boaties get their first look at it from a hundred metres away. Human nature being what it is they slow down for a few minutes sometimes seconds and then they commit. The trap is they will be in the danger zone for sometimes 300 metres or more and depending on the tidal flow they will be in it for a lot longer than they would like. If you are crossing on a low water tide you will nearly always get a kicker even when there is very little swell readings. I lived at the rocks for 4 years and still fish out of there about 20 times a year and i know locals who only have used the creek for years rather than take that bar on a regular basis although the creek crossing is now so shallow its almost useless for extended fishing trips. I hope you and your family members were not hurt and your holiday not soured by a bad experience that has happened to hundreds of boaties over the years on that bar. cheers.
