  5. hi all, went down to my 'secret' spot in the hawkesbury to target the almighty jews 2nite with my mates expectations werent high as these little buggers so frustrating to target sometimes. but somewhat, i had a good feeling; today i went and bought $5 worth of FRESH! slimies as bait @ $3.99 a kilo, got me 7 decent sized slimies = 14 fillets arrived at our spot at 10pm, JUST in time for high tide @ 1.57metres first bait in water around 10:30pm, rod struck at 11:30pm (first hr after HIGH TIDE) and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz she went lol, cheers were being yelled whilst adrenalin was pumping, then up came a 47cm soapie hahaha i don't care what anyone says, it's a legal landbased jewie and we did it!! we had HEAPS of hits but no hook ups, left at around 3am, definitely satisfied with results, and definitely will return!! bait: fresh filleted slimy mackarel hooks: 4/0 gamakatsu octopus spot: hawkesbury time: 10pm-3am we also caught a port jackson shark (ugly lil thing) released it, a 40cm tailor, and 2x20cm yakkas which we put 1 out as livie but it escaped lol enjoy!
  6. thanks for the replies yeah im heading 2wards oceano =)
  7. hey guys, im juggling between the 2... i've felt both reels, SOL seems to be a TAD smoother + lighter Oceano has more drag features + more solid reel will be used for chasing kingys (i hope i can get one this season before they go) who ever is interested in the OCEANO pm me and i may be able to get it cheaper if we order more than 1 together (less freight cost) here are pics of both reels Black and Gold rim OCEANO (bad ass looking) Orange SOL (sweet ass looking) what are ur thoughts? does anyone have these reels? what are the pros and cons + comparison? cheers
  8. so me and my mate got the approval from both the mrs last night to sneak out for a quick fish, decided to hit lane cove, and man was it pissing down! but our fishermens spirit (and stupidity) pushed us through the night. all this talk about when the rain comes it turns the bite off, WRONG!! the bream were going crazy last night, we managed to pick up 8 x 27-32cm breams in about 3 hrs of our soaking session sorry no pics this time (camera woulda got soaked) Happy Valentines Day raiders hehe

  14. hi all, sorry for late report (been overseas) took my cousin and 2 mates out for his first time 'proper' fishing and as he's been really keen on catching a 'BIG FISH' expectations were high, but i told him that the #1 rule of thumb for fishing is (for me anyway) don't go fishing expecting to catch fish, if you catch something its a bonus! we arrived at around 4pm and went for a swim not really caring about the fishing yet, it was a scorcer of a day (if anyone remembers boxing day) then as the sun was about to set (7pm) we rigged up the rods and were bottom bashing. we had 1 whole block of fresh pillies and our target was anything 'big' according to my cus JUST as the sun set 8pm, one of the rods buckles over and im greeted with something solid on the other end, about 2minutes of tug-o-war i reel up a beaut of a trevally!! she went on the brag mat @ 50cm MY PB! (thanks santa) it was then, my cus, not ever seeing a fish this big in his entire life was converted. as the night went on we kept getting hits after hits, but i had 3 amateurs with me and they kept losing the fish to the reefs below. so once i took over, we kept landing the fish, i caught 2 breams one 33 and another which is now my new PB - she went 38cms!!!!! man do bream of beaches fight or what! my cus, getting frustrated that he wasnt landing anything, came over to where i was standing and i told him once this rod gets hit ill let him reel it up and coach him.. so as the glow sticks started to flick, flick, flick then BAMMMM she went down and i told him to HIT! and now pump and wind and pump and wind, adrenalin rushing everywhere, im screaming go go go lol and just as the fish is near the rocks suddenly he stops reeling and looks at me going "is it stuck?" and i screamed, NO! JUST KEEP REELING Lol! we were laughing our assess off while this noob was reeling in such an unco way, but finally he lifts up the rod and we were met with a 48cm model trevally!!! my cousins FIRST EVER FISH!. i dunno how big ur first ever fish was but to him this is a DREAM fish lol and the fight on that fish definitely sparked something in his heart and now he wants to go fishing every time! haha. it was a hectic night, cause after the sun went down it was so cool.. we were fishing in boxer shorts and it werent feeling the cold at all. at the end of the night everyone caught a fish, we came home with so much more weight to carry from all the fish and of course we converted my cousin lol, our catches below; 38 bream PB 33 bream 50 trevally PB 47 trevally 38 trevally 110 shovel nose shark 90 ray/shark/ whatever they're called 30 small ray 35 tailor 31 yellowtail anyways enjoy the photos oh yeah forgot to add this photo, the next day i gave 2 bream to my sister to cook and this is what she made. fish sauce + newspaper + fish we catch = yes i know im asian Lol
  15. hahaha well done mate, i know that feeling like it was just yesterday give it 1kilo or 5kilos the feeling after ur first jew is an accomplishment second to none! *applause*
  16. haha, thanks guys! yeahh im still abit psyched about the whole thing lol the next day i wrapped her in foil, put oil, slit lines between her side, had lemon/salt/pepper and a tad of chilli flakes also put lemon pieces on her. wrapped her up nicely and chucked her on the BBQ omg it was delish! another thing i wanted to mention, dunno if u guys agree with me but is it just me or do the jewfish smell BEAUTIFUL! they have a distinct and nice FISH smell (as bad as that sounds) lol! i wouldve taken the gloves off but i was already holding the bugger ! tight lines all!
  17. hi all, went out last night (last minute decision) to a place in the hawkesbury land based wasnt really expecting to catch anything just wanted to chill out with my brother (his last day in aus before holidays) arrived to my 'new' secret spot land based had 2 rods, 1 was bottom bashing with 3 hook pilchard rid and my other rod was pillie/ganged on float. got there at 12:00am high tide was at 2:30pm with a 1.33metres high short and simple 15minutes before high, i reeled up my rod to check my pillie.... nothing.. not even touched.. so i casted out and as i was letting the line straighten up and the sinker hit the floor (very deep hole). all of a sudden the line just kept pulling (the reel hadnt been clipped back on yet, so the line was peeling off) LOL so im standing there reeling in what i think is a port jackson or some kinda ray. then..... i feel HEAD SHAKES and im thinking.... COULD THIS BE? after about 1minute of adrenalin, this baby 45cm (JUST LEGAL) soapie jew comes up STOKED!!! my first jewie.. i know to some of yous a 45cm jewie is nothing.. but its my first ever jew.. and im never gonna forget it! its funny, when u go prepared with fresh squid bait/new lines/full moons/king tides and get absolutely nothing.. and then u go last minute fishing with a bag of servo pillies and u come home with a dream fish! that's fishing for ya! what a way to end my 2008 and with my brother with me too! merry xmas everyone and enjoy the festives! =)
  18. chopper75: yep for sureeeee i got burnt abit that day, couldnt find my fishermans hat! Dougs77: yeah sure, happy to meet raiders whilst fishing. that place is good, u just have to keep working it 10 cast in a certain area, if nothing leave, and keep flicking, thats what we did! and voila! hazza: its the road you take when ur going towards the anzac bridge, u'll see parking on the left, i saw someone else out there flicking sp's dunno if he had any luck but yeah if u want more info pm me
  19. Hi all!, yesterday went out with my lil bro on my day off for a flick with sp's Location: Leichardt Bridge/Five dock area Bait: Soft Plastics 3" Minnows pumpkinseed (THE SHIZZZZZ) Target: Flathead arrived at the place around 1:30pm and the tide was going out (low tide @ 5pm) set up and started flicking, i read somewhere that after about 10 flicks covering a certain area with no bites u have to keep moving (the art of SP fishing) so thats what i did all day, first hook up was a baby 20cm flathead that was happily released after a photo (on my phone) my stupid camera started to cark itself, so i couldnt get any photos in the day >< SPEWING we kept moving and kept flicking, then 30mins later my brother got hit by a nice 55cm model (his pb) and then shortly another @ 50cm (perfect eating size) as we kept moving around the walkway, we kept flicking and then eventually i got onto a nice 57cm model!! my PB on sp's lol then as we moved on my little brother (silly boy) was walking with the rod pointed down and then all of a sudden ***SNAPPPP*** my pflueger graphite rod lost its tip... NOOOOOOOOOOO after that we called it a day at the dead of low tide (5pm) went home with 3 nice size flatties for eating which i converted into lightly floured/pepper/lemon/chilli flakes and deep fried very quickly had them with nandos peri peri sauce *mmmm* im going back there next week (hopefully) lol *enjoy!*
