  1. why did you remove the name and website of the charter Joe??? Good charters are hard to find, whats wrong with pointing a good one out to fellow fishraiders????????? i am not associated with his business in any way, just trying to give credit where its due!!
  2. May Be NOT, what a great idea mate we buy our meat criovaced and it lasts for ages so its a great idea for squid and sounds worth the money when u consider the cost of squid.
  3. sorry for the late post but ive been sick with a bad flu. My friend Jack and I arrived at Bayview at 6.30am looking forward to an overdue fishing trip. True to his word, Peter (plfishfingers) was there waiting for us. Having always fished the Hawkesbury, i always loved the look of Pittwater but never thought it was that fishy, so i was keen to find out first hand. After our intros we motored off to our first spot with our target being squid. Along the way Pete was already giving us a rundown on spots in the Pittwater as we passed them. On arrival we were greeted to a glorious Pittwater sunrise: It didnt take long for us to bag a couple nice sized squid before things went quiet and Pete decided it was time to try and convert them into some kingies I must admit that although we were optimistic, we weren't that confident as Pete had already explained to me when i booked the charter that the water temp had dropped to an ugly 16 degrees and had shut down the hot kingie bite he had been experiencing. However, with such a beautiful day and such a competent skipper we were still in with a shot. We slow trolled a few spots that looked the goods with nice showings of bait schools on the sounder. We persisted for about an hour for no result so we moved on to some of Pete's other spots. We arrived to be greeted again by a good sized bait school that were balled up on the sounder. After about 12 laps of the spot for no luck Pete said well give it one more go...and sure enough our persistance paid off. The line pulled free from the downrigger and it was my mate Jack who came up tight on a nice fish. After a spirited tussle we were delighted to see a flash of yellow and silver appear boutside and Pete slipped the net under a nice kingie we were stoked to get him as the water temp was still 16.5degrees. The kingie measured 63cm and after a few photos was released back into the chilly water. Without mucking around our second squid was rigged and sent down hoping we could stir another fish to strike. On our second lap the line began to scream again and it was my turn to do the honours. There was no doubting this was a king and typical of them he put up a dogged fight going around the boat and refusing to surface. Careful not to pull the hooks, i slowly worked him up and we finally boated our second fish. At 74cm and right on 7pounds he was a nice solid fish. Unfortunately he was gut hooked and bleeding badly so he was bled and put in the esky after some photos. As we were out of squid we quickly went in search for more and managed to get 1. We went straight back to the spot but the kingies didnt want to play anymore. More than satisfied we decided to head out into Broken Bay in search of some salmon schools and hopefully big kings. There were no birds working when we arrived and after about an hour of trolling and casting for no result we headed back for Pittwater to try for some flatties. Sure enough as we headed to our spot the water came alive with a big school of salmon crashing the suface It wasnt easy to get a take but Pete's great driving and boat positioning eventually got us onto some nice fish which were great fun on 4 pound mono we finished the day with a flattie drift which resulted in half a dozen small fish in about 20 minutes. we tried one more spot on our way home and had a mix of yakkas, butterbream, small reddies and even watsons leaping bonito come through the burley trail. we couldnt tempt the bonito but got some reddies and bream before our time was up. We got back at the ramp at 3pm were Peter expertly filleted our catch ready for the barbie. It was an extremely enjoyable day and a real eye opener. sorry for the long post and i will post photos soon. Thanks for the great day mate and we will be back anthony...

  7. i believe you make your own luck and pretty much agree with Pukka's saying one point i can add though is i believe to catch Jew CONSISTENTLY (especially quality fish) you must target them and forget about having "bream line" out at the same time because u can bet that Murphy's Law will apply anthony...

sorry, posted the following in the reports section and just saw this thread...my bad. guys, neither myself or the others never intended attacking moonlight or anybody for that matter, as i said its a nice fish and i dont think badly of anybody keeping anything of any size within the rules, i love eating fish and keep my share for the table as well. no one was abused or attacked, merely an opinion raised for a good purpose. as i said in my post i have kept a flattie of that size so im not professing to being a saint myself. i still reckon they taste like crap at that size, dry and tasteless. moonlight, well done on a fine capture, and congrats to u for not taking offence as none was intended. and mate your a much better angler than me and hats off to u and your mate for releasing jewies which as u say takes alot of guts and willpower to do. im yet 2 catch a big one but have been reliably told that the bigger the better. if the day ever comes i have said to myself that i would keep my first big one and the rest would go back. my lips are now sealed ... anthony...
  9. all the outfits suggested will do the job, it all depends on what your budget is but i feel it is definately worth paying a bit more to get quality gear. Penn has a good reputation but something to keep in mind is that Shimano has a 10 YEAR warranty on all their range i tend to agree with keenist on the overheads. the tide rages in the hawkesbury most of the time so u need a beefy outfit just to support the sinker weight!! i fish three overheads(2 shimanos and an Okuma(brilliant value for money)) and 1 threadline outfit. if ur not confident with overheads i can thoroughly recommend the Shimano Tekota- it has a level wind system to make life easy and is great value. If its a spinning reel u want, then the 6500 baitrunner is my pick. hope this helps anthony...
  10. thats fantastic news mate, the mighty hawkesbury needs all the help it can get
  11. i hate getting the filthy mongrels off my hook in the hawkesbury let alone wrestling one...filth thank heavens the water's dirty, dont think i wanna see whats going on under there
  12. bad luck mate, thats gotta be my worst nightmare too. hope the basterd gets what he deserves...and then some i always use my Klamp-it trailer wheel clamp when im out, regardless of day or night or what ramp im on(usually parsley bay). i know this is not foolproof but it is certainly a deterent. i like to also park hard against the kerb like joe and if possible between other cars. having insurance always helps and thumbs up to Club Marine. anthony...
  13. ive had the same problem last year at the marina at cabarita(mental blank, cant remember the name-i think its Westport?) we quietly pulled up just inside one of the "fairways" (thanks to be bluecod for the legal mumbo jumbo ) and i immediately landed a beaut flattie from under one of the hulls. within about 5 mins a bloke appeared(along with his huge german sheppard) on the back deck of the cruiser adjcent to the one we just got the fish from and began asking questions. He said they had experienced a lot of theft at night from people under the "disguise of fisherman like you guys". He said that security would be down shortly 2 ask us 2 leave anyway as it we were in private property and he took down our rego. As it was already 10pm and we were really on our way back to the ramp we decided to leave to save a confrontation. That was the only time i had fished a marina before and likely to be the last. I love the peacefullness that fishing brings and the last thing i want is to be annoyed by wan***s. this issue reminded me of an occasion down at the fish markets. I had just dropped my brother off on the pontoon to run in and get some food and as the wharf was full i just drifted around the area just off the shore(bout 30 metres out). around 5 minutes later we hear an "OI" come from the wharf and to my surprise 2 police officers in dark blue overalls (i think they were water police) told me to motor over to them on the shore. He began interigating us asking everything from ou our personal details to how much i paid for the boat and even where we launch from!!! this went on for ten minutes before he allowed us to go. To put things in perspective though, me and my friend (both being "middle eastern appearance" (i.e lebanese) were both in beanies and both long overdue for a shave, so they probably thought we were followers of Bin Laden and the fish markets was our next target anyway, just as we need to know the road rules, as fishos it would be wise to know these finer laws of the water to. keep the helpful information coming guys anthony...
  14. hi all, a day out with Ross would be awsome. I would love to tag along if u guys want another fisho . Just let me know cheers... anthony
