  1. Hiya Raiders, I am gearing up my Quinnie to go night fishing and was wondering what are the recommended spot lights that people are using. There a blue eyes, and halogens, rated between 400,000 to 10,000,000 candle power. Ideally I want something I can attach or detach as a handheld. Any suggestions Rgds and Thanks Dhutchy
  2. Hi Everyone, the lights show continues, or rather it doesn't. Connecting direct to the battery of my Quinnie the Perko Stern light glows as it should. In the socket, after cleaning and checking wires it doesn't. It appears that the socket is wired to the switch board at the helm, which I suspect is shorting somehow. Now, the cheapest and easiest answer would be to wire direct to battery. The question I have for all you expert raiders is that: a) does such a connect require a switch what wiring is best to make such a connection c) is connecting the Perko Stern Light direct to the battery safe. The Auto Electrician has quoted $88.00 for the first hour, but expects the job to be sorted close to or around that time - depending on whether he has to source parts. Any ideas - also what other additional lightning do you Raiders recommend for night fishing Rgds Dhutchy Its not about catching fish, but it helps
  3. Thanks raiders, Rickb and Davemmm, I will do as you suggest. Thanks for your suggestions. Fishraiders are tops. Rgds Dhutchy Its not about catching fish, but it helps
  4. Thanks Balmain Bob and Flatty Hunter. I will check the socket and the fuses, which will hopefully reveal the prob, and prevent having to rewire it. Thanks for your responses. Rgds Dhutchy Its not about catching fish, but it helps.
  5. G'day Raiders, I want to give some night fishing a try off my Quintrex, and I having hassles with a PERKO lighting stem. Unplugged, away from the boat, on an old torch battery I can get the lamp to work, plugged into the socket, at the stern of the boat and its a no go. It looks to be wired direct to the battery switch, I have checked the connections and all seem to be fine. Does anyone have any (polite) advice or its a visit to an auto electrician? Also, what other lights to folk carry on board. I have seen everything from torches to search lights worthy of Alcatraz? Rgds Dhutchy Its not about catching fish but it helps
  6. Hy Freja, the Tui is a great, smooth kayak to paddle, rides well and is reasonably light to transport. I got mine from the Kayak store at Narrabeen Lakes. http://www.prokayaks.com.au/Boats/Qkayaks/Tui.shtml They are made in New Zealand and go well. If you hunt around you will probably pick a good one up second hand. Good luck and safe paddling Rgds Dhutchy Its not about catching fish, but it helps.
  7. Craig at Huett's Marine is as pratical and honest as he is skilled. After taking my Quintrex to another DISservice operation on the North Shore, which failed to correctly install a fuel tap, meaning I couldn't switch from tank 1, to off or to tank 2, and then laughing about it when I took the boat back, peace of mind and quality of work can't be under estimated. Craig has provided me with good advice, lots of help, and he hasn't even serviced my boat yet. Rgds Dhutchy Its not about catching fish, but it helps
  8. Freja, I have a single kayak, a "Tui", which I paddle in the Hawkesbury, I also have a 5m Quintrex Aluminum runabout. The kayak has never been a problem in pushing off the bottom, just pull the rudder up and use the paddle as a pole.It pays to keep an eye on the water levels I suppose. I haven't ever "seriously" bogged the boat, so a bit of reverse action on the outboard has always been able to release. It kinda depends on how stuck is "stuck". Rgds Dhutchy
  9. Bloody Good particuarly the two dans thanks Iceman Rgds Dhutchy
  10. Hey Pelican and Huey, thanks for the tip I will have a more detailed search and rescue mission and get to you. Yeah, it only seems to occur after filling the tanks, after that it seems to settle down, and its only seepage, out of the breathers at the stern. I don't see it on the trailer, or coming off a ramp. How about this for a twist though, I had this boat serviced at a certain operation on the North Shore (not Huett Marine), with this fault being mentioned, and paid for among all the other stuff of a $700+ service fee. One thing that need remedying was a fuel tap need to be added because the old one had rusted out. To cut a long story short, they had fitted a replacement in such a fashion, that moving from tank one to off, or tank one to two, or vice versa couldn't have been acheived without removing the back bench seat. Rendering the function of two long range fuel tanks somewhat obsolete. Having this fault reoccur doesn't make me a happy camper I will check it out and keep you posted. Thanks for your advice Cheers now Dhutchy
  11. G'day raiders, my Quintrex Freedom Sport 500, which has a 2 stroke 90hp Mercury Outboard and dual long range fuel fitted, has a need to leak fuel. I bought the boat 2nd hand earlier in the year and its seeping fuel, usually only after the tanks have just been filled. My driveway slopes slightly to my garage, I park the boat and out it comes. Fortunately, there are no smokers in the family. Anyway the logical solution is to raise the back of the boat a bit, not fill the tanks so much, or perhaps find a way of plugging the seepage outlet, does anyone know of suitable temporary plug that would remedy the problem in these days of expensive fuel. It seems to do it irrespective of whether the fuel is off or on. The front of the trailer is resting on the lowest point of the jockey wheel, the fuel is off, and there still remains the tiniest bit of seepage. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Rgds and thanks Dhutchy
  12. This is a great forum for hints and tips on Fishing... But whatabout folks who want to learn more about their boats... Maybe we could get a thread going on boating tips. Such as as when tying up at a wharf or jetty, allowing a bit of length in your bow line, to allow some distance between your boat and the wharf is an easy way to prevent scratches and scrapes, which even with discreet use of fenders can be a problem.... or going through a pre-launch check list to ensure adequate supplies of fuel, on-board oil, flares, and even ensuring your bungs are in place prior to launch, might help newbies. Can any recommend a practical and comprehensive, boating encyclopedia, dvd, site that might be useful. I have recently bought a second hand 5m Quintrex Freedom Sport, but the manual cannot be described as comprehensive... Rgds Dhutchy Its not just about catching fish but it helps.
  13. Thanks PoddyTrapper, Roberta, Robr and Hodgey and Softon, who sent me a personal msg, to which I will respond to shortly. I value all your tips and will undertake the learning you suggest. 14. G'day raiders, with everyone goin' the boast about the magic of soft plastics, from forums to magazines, I am convinced that they must be good and that I must be doing something wrong. I have bites, but the fish I get if they bite em they spit em. Can I request that you plastic rascals help convert us conventional bait chuckers and share any all or your tips.
