  1. G'day Raiders, The family has scored up to three weeks in Taree (four mins from boat ramp) after Xmas and we will probably take the boat (Quintrex Freedom Sport 500). I have never fished there before so any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also what about the bar there is it as hairy as I have heard? Many thanks Dhutchy Its not just about catching fish, but it helps
  2. Hey Guys, I will hop on this train and wish the Fishrader Team all the very best. Happy Birthday. As a member I just see and receive the raider's benefits from methods to fish, to cooking fish, finding fish, finding smart people who help me fish and help keep my equipment up to standard this includes great service and discounts with sponsors such as Go Fish and Huey at Huett Marine. I know the admins and mods do a lot to deliver all these benefits, so happy birthday. All the best Dhutchy Its not just about the fish, but it helps
  3. Hey Huey, you know my boat, the Quintrex 500 Freedom Sport. I have been wondeing what size and what cost would I need to get an electric motor onto my boat. Many Thanks Dhutchy

    Split Ring

Thanks Heaps Craig. I was wondering if I should drop it in to you. So I guess if rests where it is there is no harm to the engine, is that right? I am hoping (if my five year old gets his personality back) to use the boat tomorrow. Rgds Dhutchy

    Split Ring

G'day Raiders I haven't used the boat for a while because of weather and other calamities, checking it today for weekend and found a split ring on the bottom of my Merc 90hp 2 stroke - can anyone advise its funtion and whether I should just coat in grease and reinsert... Sorry but I dunno (pics below_ Thanks Raiders Rgds Dhutchy It isn't just about catching fish but it helps
  6. Geez Fishraiders are good, particulary with sharin' their smarts. Thanks to all for the help, trailer lights now functioning. There is a link a found that has the standard wiring diagrams and configs for Australia. If anyone wants it pm me ( i don't want to upset the mods here). It was helpful, but pretty much the Fishraiders, the labelling on the connectors, and patience won through. Trial and error won the day. Thanks again. Rgds Dhutchy
  7. Hey Guys thanks for all your help - The reason for this rewiring is that the trailer popped off the tow ball on the weekend - pulling the wires out of the old connector . So I having nothing to go by other than whats on the narva plug. I will keep persevering. But if anyone knows of a reasonable mobile auto/boat electrician it might be handy. Cheers all Dhutchy Its not just about catching fish, but it helps.
  8. Thanks Kev,Sorro, Toxicifish and Blacky, all very good info. I will keep you posted as the saga continues... I am trying to avoid calling in a mobile auto electrician... Rgds Dhutchy
  9. Hey Raiders maybe there is a sparky out there, or a knoweldgeable raider who might shed some light. I need to wire up a new connector from my trailer. The Narva 7 pin flat connector comes with a handy wiring diagram for the seven pins, matching wire color to pin number. Easy peasy. Well it would be if my existing wires matched the colors as specified by the wonderful Narva people - I have two lots (4 wires in two cables ) of red, white, green brown - no black, blue, violet, pink or any other specified by Narva. Is there an easy way other than trial and error to get the things right? Rgds Dhutchy Its not just about catching fish, but it helps
  10. Hey guys you might be right about smart asses - because my drive has a signfiicant dip. If it wasn't t hitched properly, I would be surpised if it didn't pop off then. Who knows... Rgds Dhutchy Its not just about catching fish, but it helps
  11. A good thing about Fishraiders, is there is always someone who is telling a story about a lucky escape, usually because of dumb luck or knuckle headed action, like the current thread about boat ramp horror stories. Its really good for a chuckle as well as being a reminder that no matter how experienced you are, or not, things go wrong. Like today. Took wife.gif and my two 1prop.gif kids plus a kids mate 1prop.gif out from Appletree Bay. As I was hooking the trailer up the kids were renacting Custer's Last Stand. mad3.gif Anyway, no problem away we went. Great day out. I caught my first jew fish, everyone caught fish, boat was great. thumbup.gif On the way back, the ramp queue was like a supermarket on Saturday morning, so things were a bit rushed. Anway all's cool, heard a bit of bang went existing with boat on. No problem, she'll be sweet. Driving back on the bendy road towards Bobbin Head, and the Damn Trailer pops off the tow ball. 05.gif Rear ends (slightly) the back of the car, autographs the silly wheel cover, and there i am stuck. Could have been much worse I know. Then a fantastic land based fisher, jumps in his car with wife.gif and kids, drives up, just because he heard the noise, helps get the boat back on and escorts home because the trailer electrics were screwed. So if anyone can recommend a mobile sparky for trailer that would be great The moral of the story - check, recheck, triple check... yeah, yeah, yeah. By the way can anyone id this fish... 13. Hey everyone, maybe this is the ideal spot in the forum for Fishraiders to relate how other fishraiders have helped them out, or how the site has got them out of trouble, or even into trouble at one of the many socials. I'll kick off. Compared to many on the site I am a novice in all things fishing and boating. But the Fishraiders community is a treasure trove of good stories to inspire and educate, horrify and amuse. Whether its about catching fish, identifying fish, cleaning fish, cooking fish, building boats, repairing boats, getting on a boat, launching a boat (or not) being safe on a boat, getting social on a boat, Fishraiders has it in spades. The sponsors are all excellent to deal with and are all keen to help you make the most of your fishing/boating experience. Cynics might say there's at least a dollar in it for them, but I reckon in most cases, certainly mine, its a very reasonable dolllar, particularly with the fishraiders discounts. But there are many others as well who will give up their time and expertise to help out a fellow fishraider. So welcome to this forum, contribute when and where you can and enjoy. I love it. Good Servicing

Hey Raiders, I just wanted to give our site sponsors, Huett Marine, a rap. Just had my Mercury 90 serviced there and its singing sweetly. The work was done on time, within the quote, no probs. First day on the water the boats going great. Get it home, can't get the engine to vent the water when flushing. I am a bit of a novice, but Craig from Huetts, spent some of his time advising me on the checks I had to do, did all these and still no result. He then said bring it back for a check up. Within about 10 seconds, he had worked out my flusher (the bunny ears attachment) was screwed. Supplied replacement, and a muffler to save neighbours ears, and got numerous helpful tips - all good. There is a lot of peace of mind dealling with an operation that has such great service Huetts are based at Cowan and well worth the trip. Thanks Craig. 16. Okay its school holidays. Work and everything have conspired no boating or fishing for about 3 weeks. Work contract finishes. Say to how about we bundle up kids (boys 5 n 3) and see if we can get get out to Flint and Steel. Prepare the boat in warm sunshine, argue with demonic Australian-designed but Chinese built jockey wheel, about to load rods and sheets of rain begin to fall Drape tarp across boat, boys and I stand in garage watching rain. joins us So I say sod it, its only water, we're still going; They look at me like I am . Get to Appletree Bay ramp steady rain and a determined yachtie, launching, laughing and agreeing when I say you have to be crazy, as I launch, after giving first lesson in backing boat and trailer onto ramp. Kids huddle on boat where they can to avoid rain and discover on there ain't many places to avoid rain on an open Quintrex runabout. Anyway somewhere between launch and cottage point, we boat a couple of snapper, one barely legal and the other pretty much embryonic, both thrown back. Rain stops. Quick squirt up to Flint and Steel rain departs and everywhere is bathed in a golden water colour you wanted to photograph, but no cameras. Get to Flint and steel for good bites big swell, starts feeling queasy, youngest looks green , reluctantly head to calmer water off Juno. In the rippin tide we pull a flattie, two whiting, a good sized flounder. All of which were thrown back to fight another day. All in all a day that turned around completely. Every place we went was empty, we avoided most of the rain, youngest slept on the boat and woke up with personality and everyone caught fish, well three of us did and youngest thinks he did. There is a certain zzzzzen...and we're all smilin again. Cheers Dhutchy Its not just about catching fish, but it helps

  21. Hiya raiders, the wants to pump for yabbies somewhere in the Hawkesbury. I've not used em before. Does anyone know where she might get a decent bucket load - ideally to keep in the bait tank to be used almost immediately...Also what's the best rig Thanks and Rgds Dhutchy It isn't just about catching fish, but it helps.
  22. Jewgaffer, you're funny Rgds Dhutchy
  23. Hey Gary, Thanks for the tips... Our day started well... Kids minded at GrandParents, on the water about 5:00am, no problems catching heaps of yakkas, and then went searching for something of decent size. North of Barrenjoey, nothing but a huge bite out of one of the lives. West of Barrenjoey in close, a couple of ugly red rock cods. North of Lion's Island nothing. South of Lion's a couple of barely legal Flatties. I reckon we must have been doing something wrong... Maybe all the decent fish were at the Kingfish social. But the day on the water was great and we had good fun. Rgds and many thanks Dhutchy and Mrs Dhutchy It isn't just about catching fish, but it helps.
  24. Hiya Raiders, I am taking the out early tomorrow, hoping to catch something of reasonable size to make her . Can anyone report on any decent action, no X spots needed, in and around Broken Bay/Barrenjoey. Rgds and Thanks Dhutchy Its not just about catching fish but it helps
