    Off Shore Fishing

Hi Hal, A 2nd hand report from sunday. One of the club boats got a 10kg fin and one of the charter boats got one around 20kg. Far from exciting out there at the moment unless you like shark fishing as there appears to be a few around from all reports. Red
  3. This Black Trevally, could it be a Surgeon Fish? If it is, they go like the clappers and taste like crap....lol Red
  4. Nice Jew there Mick. I'm guessing 13.5kg Red

    Monster Jew

Matt, I think i know the one you are referring to but unfortunately the report can't be believed as photo's that were promised did not eventuate Some people can't handle their grog cheers Red
  6. Sure Dan, Someone with a budget of 200 odd bucks, could do a lot worse than buying the mighty Baitrunner. However, if the Bait runner function was not really required, i'd steer people towards the bigger Spheros. Very good reel for it's price Cheers Red
  7. G'day Livie, The Baitrunners i had were sold and replaced with four Thunnus reels........three 12000F's and one 16000F. I'm still sniffing around for another two 16000F's Can anyone help here? Dan, only a brave man would put shit on the mighty Baitrunner. They have been one of Shimano's best, and at the current prices, they are tremendous value . It's just the Thunnus, in my opinion is even better, but it was running at twice the B/R price Is it twice as good? That's doubtfull, but like many, i'm well and truly over the Graphite craze. I was lucky enough to pick mine up for close to Baitrunner prices......how could a born tackle junkie pass that up? Metal reels all the way Cheers Red
  8. Here Here Mick! There's no doubting the Baitrunner is good, it's just the Thunnus is even better That annoying Baitrunner flex is a thing of the past for me since upgrading Red
  9. Thanks for the pic Moonlite. Gotta get me one of those this season. You are the man mate. Well done Cheers Red
  10. Where's the pic Moonlite? Can't wait to see it

    A New Reel

You won't go wrong with the Stradic mate. In my opinion, it is the superior reel of the two Hope that makes you feel better Red
  12. My brother has a 30hp tiller and i can safely say that i'm not a fan of tillers at all, particularly for a motor of your size. Go the remote control, whether centre or side console. You won't look back. The extra price is long forgotten If going outside with a tiller, you get so wet when driving from the back, you get a sore left arm from the torque of a large motor and you can't see in front of you at low speeds. Hardly what you wanted to hear.....lol Cheers Red
  13. Nice catch mate. Those squire are probably the perfect eating size How many Pigfish did you get? Top tucker Red
  14. Absolutely. They eat big mullet, tailor, frigates etc. Don't be shy to put a big bait out, especially if fishing an area that has produced big fish in the past. Cheers Red
  15. Well done Bob. That's a cracker

    Fin-nor

G'day Lightweight, Any free reel is a bonus, let alone a Fin-nor Ahab It will serve you well. It's such a shame when quality companies such as Fin-nor, who have built their reputation on excellent US made products, shift operations to another country with cheap labour and cost of their reels don't come down accordingly Today's Ahab's should be half their asking price much like the Malaysian made TLD's Regards Red

    Fin-nor

G'day Lightweight, How old are your Ahab's? My Ahab #8 was purchased 4 years ago and was definately "not" made in the USA and my Fin nor Tycoon TYS7-1 is indeed made in Korea. I double checked this fact before posting I am very disappointed with the Tycoon as it is corroded quite badly It still operates but will be sticking with Shimano, Penn and Daiwa from here on. In particular Shimano with their unbeatable 10 year warranty and fantastic after sales service Red

    Fin-nor

The original Ahab's were made in the USA but the Ahab 8 i owned was made in Bangladesh from memory. They certainly are too heavy for their size and quite frankly, i was disappointed. The cork drag was ok but had a strange drag knob set up I'd be saving my pennies and buying two Stradics for the price of one Ahab. I still have a Fin-nor Tycoon little eggbeater and it is crap too. If it wasn't so corroded it would have been sold ages ago Oh, and god help you if you ever need parts. They weren't available in Oz when i owned the Ahab. Red

    Heavy Jig Outfit?

Warpig, i feel the same way about my beloved overheads mate. They are the reel of choice for the purist , no annoying right angles and line twist plus much more fun to use......particularly small baitcasters. Bashir, the outfit will be used in Cairns and we are hoping to mix it with some serious fish, therefore quality is paramount. After the Cairns trip, the outfit will most probably be advertised on this forum as we have no plans to start jigging small kings off sydney. Had heard afew whispers that the Trinidads tended to wobble a bit, which is what prompted this thread, but hopefully a gimbal should take care of this. A mate of mine bought the Stella 20000FA for this reason but then again, he is an eggbeater man through and through. As a bonus, the Trinidad is less than half the price of the big Stella Red
  20. Fishraiders, Just after your opinions/experiences to help me decide. I'm in the market for a heavy jig outfit and will go for a T-Curve 400 jig rod but still undecided when it comes to overhead or spin reels. This outfit won't be cheap, so i'm looking to get it right first time. Reels i'm looking at are either Stella 20000FA or Trinidad 40N. Which way would you go guys? Red
  21. Awesome bag there Aero. I'd officially retire from breaming if i were you and go out on a high Well done Red
  22. The trusty GPS and my current sounder have helped me no end My GPS is over 10 years old though Red

    Fishing Knives

I've used a stack of knives and the 8" Dexter Russell is the best i've used so far. I'm sure there are better knives out there, but in the $50 price range.....nothing comes near it Red
  24. Nice pic That's a cracker jew indeed. Red
  25. Thanks Giles, That's great info mate. Is it possible to post a pic? I know exactly what you mean about being a cave man but i wouldn't change a thing. Our hobby/sport is the ultimate mix of skill and serenity Regards Red
