  3. i'm free tues, wed or thurs. it'll for the back of lion for jew for mine, this southerly crap's now moving clear, and snapper would hit there i'm sure jewgaffer fish on
  4. luv your style mondo. i always read between the lines you're a good bloke. i'll tell you why. because i say you are and that's what counts to me. bangladesh and biscuits, yep that goes well. you'll catch jewies. you'll get very good at it too. i'll tell you why. you simply started thinking cheers jewgaffer fish on cripes it's 2.30 am. just got back from the hawkes with humesy, top fisho i tell ya, and the star sydney harbour jewy photographer of only last week. has a nice little quintrex and andrew's a fast and efficient boatie too alas, the southerly influence continued and i said yep humesy i'll go but we'll only catch eels. and you know what mondo we got 14 eels i'll tell you something mondo even though the barometric rose to a great 1033 ( not that the figure means anything - it's the fluctuation that counts! but an ongoing southerly influence always calls the shots no matter what the pressure does, and with prime jewie baits and all the tricks, we copped what we deserved!, and we really "were only targetting eels" hope this helps mate
  5. hey johnno what a great observation on the turned out trebles. i'll ask jay about the bent out trebles mate. i think he bends them out to be more effective though jewgaffer fish on
  6. yep sparky i sure can relate to your problem don't think you are alone with these freekies. i've got a si-tex map sounder gps pro fish2 which i inherited with a mustang colt centre console i got from qld. i had sold my old yalta after a back op. i can't follow the menu it's hopeless. the user instructions were written in double dutch and it's worse than a bloody computer. but thank heavens there are no help pages in a fish finder/gps like microsoft has to bamboozle you even further. they make these hi tech ones for advanced people and they're useless for dummies it seems. my old lowrence was never a problem. it was set right or something and you just did the gain bit and got used to watching it. as far as the si-tex gps goes it would be better to keep a gregorys road map in the boat. when i first used this si-tex there were fish everywhere on the screen so we stayed and fished on when we got the boat onto the trailer at brooklyn, the carpark was still 70' deep like wobby. there were dozens of fish under the bitumin but we just too fed up to fish in the car park and catch them . help! could someone help sparky and give me a couple of plain english steps too ? jewgaffer fish on
  7. hi col excellent advice i am sure there are many out here who would welcome advice like this. keep it coming mate. very nicely presented cheers jewgaffer fish on
  8. don't wear them on barometric pressure's balmy nights james they' ll even pinch your luna park fairy floss hat. jewgaffer
  9. hi mondo thanks for that. sorry mate i will try to make my views clearer on southerly changes for you. i think this might do it :- when the southerly is on the way fish actually sense it and binge feed and then hibernate away. some miss the boat and will hang around a little longer however you've just goota be out there when a binge happens as they shut down fairly fast before a southerly settles in i have the benefit of many years of fishing under my belt and the advantage of seeing things in action at a fishing park and fish farm at ballina where shirl and i go and stay with my mate jimmy and our new member jay the hat from kingscliff to fish the richmond river a few times a year. in the case of jewies they attack the full bellied shut down fish in the early stages of a southerly and there's not much jewie action as the southerlies continue for days on end as they also tend to dissappear. when the the ongoing southerly turns the opposite way to northerly wow but again you've gotta get there early if you want i would'nt call an amazing result being based on simply of wind direction because a variety of other factors can come into it. however i would say you have a much better chance of hooking up on one or two of these elusive fish. that's the point i'm trying to make and i'm sorry if my writng style is a little hard for some to understand. hope this helps mondo and kind regards. all i can do is give it my best as to fact. i often rely on only my own opinion as to getting good results and fishing is more challenging than only doing that i tell you. jewgaffer fish on
  10. hi everyone i thought these photos of young jay cottrell, "jay the hat" from kingscliff qld would interest members and in particular show our younger members what they were capable of catching themselves with a bit of dedication and perseverence of course. there is a real light at the end of the tunnel for keen anglers these photos really show you all that there really are big fish in little rivers and they too can be caught if you think harder and get to think like a fish. jay the hat cottrell is a close friend of my wife shirl and i as well as being my best qld fishing mate and jay joined fishraider only yesterday and the fishraider name will hit darwin that's for sure. jay was trained from a kid by my close mate the one and only Jimmy bowers from ballina who is a former brother in law and best fishing mate of our own stewy swordfisherman jay's fishraider name is jakjayno1 and take a look at the size of the summer jacks, jay caught in jewhunters back yard when grant was'nt looking any members thinking of fishing the tweed or the richmond please feel free to send jay a pm and chat, he said you are very welcome. and you oughta see the size of the jewies up there regards jewgaffer fish on thanks everyone who helped me learn to post pictures. inhlanzi stewy and the admin team zrep, flightmanager and everyone involved in getting an older computer struggler almost half right at that. but there's more to go yet and thank you kindly paul zrep i feel free to ask. you helped me a lot cheers to all those who helped me gaff and land this darn 100lb computer a big thanks from my wife shirl and my grandson little jewgaffer
  11. hi everyone. i thought i would start up a new topic on the affects of barometric pressure and squid. i read an excellent post by jimmy c and i have conversed with jimmy regularly on my recent topic of barometric pressure and fishing results and that's what being a member of fishraider is all about. i have found jimmy c to be intelligent with a cutting edge type overview in comparing this subject with the moods and habits of humans, animals and fish, with jimmy examplifying my previous barometric pressure topic by using it as an anology for economical climates and stock market barometer trends and doing rather scientifically at that! and for those readers or new members who may have missed my topic on barometric pressure and best fishing results here is a link to that :- http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.ph...c=22530&hl= oh well half a link you may have to type it in i have included excerpts from a post by jimmy c with a basket full of squid he caught in gunnamatta bay on a so called wrong day on and with it a reply and a question from squid boy does the barometer affect squid so as to give you the background to my new topic. QUOTE(Jimmy C @ Jul 20 2007, 03:20 PM) Went for a quick squidding session last week at Cronulla but only just got the photos together. QUOTE(squidboy @ Jul 20 2007, 11:30 PM) Great work on the squiding, looks good that squid are still around after the kings are teaming up over the last summer What does the barometre have to do in relation to squid jigging or bait fishing? Is a rising or falling barometre good for them? Squid Boy ......................................................................................................................................................... my reply :- barometric pressure affects the mood and the feeding habits of fish as most fisherman would have experienced. some marine species are not as adversely affected as others. so become active when others have shut down. this is an example for instance. you go fishing at times when you actually feel the atmosphere doesn't feel right and you just know nothing will be biting. you've even been told by people in the know "there's been no fish caught here for a couple of days" or "you should have been here yesterday" or "kids were catching jewfish on cockatoo feathers " and just to add a bit more emphasis for you squidboyby "even luigi caught 4 kingfish off the wharf on a string of ganged frankfurts" and "his missus got two nice flounder beauties they were with some kind of home made puke that smelt so bad it made my little granddaughter cry". now your'e with me and jokes aside, you will still get a few fish that day but they will be freeks and they'll get freekier as the day worsens and the ill wind breezes on. ok then, it's even a fine day, the barometer is rising real fast but why no fish. the answer is antartic mate. i.e. ongoing southerly influence. ring a bell ? the creatures you will catch will be a follows - catfish, fortescues, toadies, scorpions, slimy eels, occies, sea snakes you'll be having rods going off everywhere getting your heart pumping fast. "what sort of fish were they" answer " migrating jellyfish getting to hell out of there fast" now on those days, in the right places there can be some very successful applicants and to bring it back into perspective :- the occie will be peeping thru a little crack in his octopus garden fortress waiting for night to fall and to reach out and grab any lethargic and bloated critter that happens to swagger past like jimmy the local drunk walking along the foot path at closing time. got it? you see the fish worst affected by the barometric pressure become easy prey for others who aren't. now on those days which jimmy c knows very well, he soon flicked his favourite zo zuri around for the feed he was targetting and jimmy got a pretty good feed for himself too i might add. when jimmy chose to go, the squid would be highly active and jimmy simply knew they would be even doing the dance of the sugar plum fairies for jimmy c as they had nothing much else to worry about. hope this helps JEWGAFFER AND DO REMEMBER - EVERY TIME YOU GO FISHING PLEASE TAKE A KID OR TWO WITH YOU. FISH ON jewgaffer jewgaffer with little jewgaffer who'll be a member soon p.s. sorry fishraider member thereddraggon who kindly supplied his good old haines hunter and my deckie mate and good friend taren point julius who fished with us last tuesday night under taren pt bridge in conditions i judged wrong where tueday's sudden good westerly turn around was going to be followed by a southerly cold front and big seas which the very wise stewy swordfisherman warned me about on the monday morning. but boys i just had to get myself back to deeper water than taren and said go tom uglies go! on wednesday night though it was bl..dy frozen when the jewies hit me hard at the start of that wicked southerly and i didn't have the heart to ask you to go again on the very next night after our lousy only bream and flathead and no baitfish episode on a colder and windier night than the night before but boys i simply had to go back when things were right on wed even in a bl...y blizzard as that's the way i fish mates. the jewies go crazy at the start of a southerly so they can stock up their food supply too should the southerlies continue. shirl and i and little jewgaffer and alfred e neuman in the cartoon pic will really eat well tonight i tell ya.

  15. hi hotty scotty, regarding g.loomis rods. you will find shipping a fishing rod from the states would be a helluva problem because of the length being too long for u.s.ps. and shipping make the whole excersize far too expensive for 1 rod, and you find shipping costs etc to be definately out of the question using only alternatives, like the couriers, fedex or u.p.s even if you bought in a couple of others with them as well. the maximum length for global express with u.s.p.s. is a rod which breaks dow to 42" so must be a 2pce rod , but a friend in south carolina who lives a block from the uglystik factory in columbia s.c slipped my 10 ugly stik tiger rods past a post girl and there is no further check after that. remember that is only because one part fits into the other they finish up longer than 42 inches when apart. one would cost me about $35 u.s. usps airmail and the 10 x 2p 7' tiger rods was about $110 u.s.with postal insurance from memory . i had to pay full customs plus gst when they arrived at the postal and customs depot at clyde i believe excellent reels are made in japan if you ever find one that is. they are known as japan models with most parts being made in korea or china for economics hope this helps? jewgaffer fish
  16. hi warnie i'm up late waiting for a phone call about going back to the georges tonight which hasn't arrived it's freezing outside so i'm going to take the phone off the hook and lay down till the thought goes away on second thoughts i might put on some blizzard gear, dream about ice fishing and wait. i've never heard of bic biro lures mate. if col reads this we will both learn a helluva lot more that's for sure and if he gives you a better alternative we best both use it i tell ya and i'll bet i get there first. regards jewgaffer fish on
  17. terrific. thanks wildfish the marks will come in handy the one off south jibbon could explain why cuttle fish are always there if it's nearly square to the little beach? i've fished there but every yakka get's hit in the back of the neck. i've got a plan to sit on bundeena wharf in a game chair like stewy and jimmy bowers did and get the ferry bloke to drop a loaded cuttlefish out near cronulla somewhere. but i've got to work out this si-tex i've inherited so haven't got a sydney map for it yet. can't follow the pidgeon american japanese in the idiot's guide or follow the sounder menu either and about to use it as an anchor. they've lost me with hi-tech sounder menus and no expert knows what type of map suits the gps part of a si-tex profish 2 map sounder plus model either i wish i had the old lowrance sounder back that went with my old yalta. life was better before all the menus came out for advanced users only with not even a hint for the older brigade. cheers jewgaffer fish on
  18. tell you what luke you could burley it well just too make sure you can't fish this location. where is it luke? regards jewgaffer fish on
  19. by the way colin i almost forgot. when i swim a larger tailor i slow it down and have it struggling in panic on the hooks by tightening my drag up on the 950 penn to about 50lb drag pressure of my 80 braid. i tell you what you'll be very welcomed over here col and it will be great to fish with you provided you can put up with the garlic coming out of taren point julius my hungarian deckie - future of fish site release of the month- (pictured with the 80pounder) caught while julius was fishing landbased under captain cook bridge. jewgaffer fish on
  20. colin col you've come over to the right place over here with us mate jewgaffer fish on
  21. put me down for one of each of the those currencies you advertised jewgaffer fish on
  22. good thanks roberta and your post does address a very important issue that i did not address. as you say, it is indeed important to adjust every barometer to allow for higher altitudes than sea level based on sea level settings . i believe you are saying, get a local figure then adjustment it or noting the difference when you go fishing etc at sea level and you are quite right although canadian made, my barometer has been set to a coastal setting in south carolina and living above sea level and travelling a lot i left it at that setting after finding that it was reading near enough to 10 milibars lower than my son's 4wd pajero which comes standard with a digital barometer adjusted to sea level for our sea level. someone asked me one day on the boat and i thought fast borrowing my straightened out circles back from an unidentifiable urchin and just said the sea levels differ coz the world is round. he was a 12 year old looking a little like my old friend alfred e neuman and said well why doesn't the water pour down on us ? it turned out that everytime my son used his pajero when we went to the coast to fish, the pajero's barometer was still reading 10 milibars higher although the car and my boat's reading had varied in unison from what they were at home so rather than start loosening the tiny spring loaded brass screw and rather than taking the risk that the spring might loosen and bounce around and put the barometer out of adjustment when using my own older 4wd to tow the boat on 4wd roads, i decided to leave it at the 10milibars lower and add 10milibars to it at sea level to get the right reading, having double checked the barometic fluctuations i was checking for would still pro rate at the same ratio above and below the previous reading indicated by the the position of the manually adjusted red hand i was satisfied leaving it as it was for s.c. regards jewgaffer fish on
  23. yep now that's good thinking on reading the post it seems some fishos may have been aware for ages that learning to cope left handed leads to the problem of the left hand overpowering the right hand and creating the problem of being ambidextrous. on medieval case studies that was proven to cause hardship in some backwater greenlanders with proud genetic foreheads and that was adopted as fact in 1907 at harvard. then if that was the biggest problem, in order to cure it themselves, the greenlanders were told to decide which hand to use on the day. struth anyone else for tennis? jewgaffer fish on
  24. yep i sure have. it should be relocated to campbelltown. always wanted to live on the water and i don't think i'm asking for all that much of the hawkesbury jewgaffer fish on
  25. i forgot to answer the moon question. i simply could not find a constant as to the best moon phases with jews nor could my dad but i can align one phase in particular which was always the worst. i used to find when the ark of the moon was to the far right edge of the black, squid were vampiring the livies but every thing else was shut down including jews. grant your quite right about a waining moon giving mediocre jew results. i've found bait fish being abundant down low, bream destroying your livies, with no jews among them and a shortage of jews and bull sharks when everything else disappeared as jimmy pointed out one night "when all the factors" did line up. we had wasted about 4 hours than bang jimmy dropped a bull mullet he found in the tailor tank, down among a thousand tailor and got hit by a jew out of nowhere so i can't figure it. but i think the moral of that episode is if there's a thousand mullet and no jews drop a pike or a mackeral out of season at them or a jaboulie squid full of sydney rock oysters or something more creative as jimmy would do. i might ask him if a cane toad will work. you've just got to meet him mate i reckon the water will be thrashed to white. i don't mind fishing backwards in the bow as i did last time when he placed me over a submerged cattapillar or a sunken mobile crane or something. regards jewgaffer fish on
