  1. Hi Stewy, I am the person you were talking to at the boat ramp on Saturday from Campbelltown. There were plenty of fish up around eagles nest, i landed 11 and dropped 8 on Saturday, Sunday i managed another 10 and one busted me off, lost my Jackall - ouch. Biggest fish went 45cm, most around 30cm. I had a headache from the pouncing of my boat as i made my way back to the ramp Saturday night head on into the chop, especially as i was by myself with no weight up the front to keep the nose of the hull down a bit. Water temp up the back was a lot warmer than the basin at around 24 - 26 degrees. Regards Daniel.
  2. Hi Delraiser, Maybe the trout are just shut down at the moment. I just got back from fishing for five days at lake Lyle for zip. The best I could do was jagged a 12cm bass on the downrigger. I tried down rigging, flat lining, casting at the edges with soft plastics and h/b's and even worms at night. Regards Daniel.
  3. A US based online shop called "lure parts online" have different bibs, check it out you can get wired through ones, i have got parts for making spinnerbaits before from them. Regards Daniel.
  4. Hi foolforjesus, How's the new spinning reel going ? I have found over the last couple of years fishing tommo's that it is either firing or dead. you can catch two fish in a hour or nothing in six hours. I have been twice now over the last few weeks for zip, it is a hard place to fish now with my fav spots down deep under water, not much bank left to walk on or rocky points. The water has risen about half a metre over the last few weeks. Take this point into theory - the water volume at tommo's has almost doubled in the last year, that means the fish are much more spread out and harder to cross paths with your lure than before. If there was one fish per 50 square metres before now it would be one per 100 m square. I hope it gets stocked well now while it is full, when the water drops again to 50% in a few years the fish will be concentrated again. Regards Daniel
  5. Hi Foolforjesus, Good choice in the reel, you will love it. I can't justify to myself to spend $500 + for a reel when my daiwa sol's & ballistics do the job fine. I might head up to tcd on sunday. Regards Daniel
  6. I agree with Abecedarian, if a trout runs more than a footy field long then he deserves the freedom, a 2000 reel will hold over 100m of 4lb braid + backing which is more than enough. just remember you have to hold the reel all day, i took my 2500 sol to tcd once and never again, the 2000 sol is much better. So how much are you willing to spend ? what can you afford and be happy with ? Remember as you will be lure casting alot the reel gets more of a work out than bait fishing reel where you cast and leave it for a while. Spend above $200 and you will start to see reels of the better quality gears etc and they won't cost a weeks work Regards Daniel.
  7. Hi, When i go to TCD i take either a 2000 Daiwa Sol or Ballistic with 4lb braid. They are both good reels and i also have them in the 2500 sizes too. If you are looking at spending $200 - 300 then i would go with one of these. The ballistic has a higer speed of 6.0:1 which does come in handy sometimes and they are lighter than the Sol which would be good for you if you are going to be doing alot of walking and casting all day at TCD as you really want to be fishing as light and finess as possible. Hope this helps Daniel.
  8. Hi, I don't have a I phone or android but i do have to get a new phone now as i dropped it on sat and cracked the screen. I will have to start taking my old 3.2mp camera with me on trips again, i will just keep it in my tackle box. I went back two weeks ago not to fish just a weekend away with the mrs, the water was lapping at the edge of the spillway so now it must be back at 100% Regards Dan.
  9. Nice fish, now i have the barra bug again in a few years i will make the trek back up there. regards daniel.
  10. Bit of a late post but on wednesday i headed to lake Lyle for the day hoping to bend a rod with a trout or two. After a hour and a half trolling with the down riggers with not even a touch i decided to change tactics and try for some bass. It turned out to be a great move as i hooked 7 fish, landed & released 6 with 2 small ones being under 20 cm, the others being 35, 38, 39 & a nice fat 42cm horse. All fish were caught on tN60's slow rolling them. sorry no pics as i am having trouble getting them off my phone.
  11. Hi Newbie88, There is quite a few seals off hill 60 on the island that is furthest out as i have seen them before when i went for kings there. They float in the water on their side with there fin hanging out it looks like they are waving to you. I have also seen a few penguins around port kembla. Regards Daniel.
  12. I was fishing off the end of the 3rd runway last year, wound up to check my bait and there was one blue ring attached to it. A few years ago i was prawning down at windang next to the bridge scooping the prawning net through the weed and ended up with one on the net with some prawns. Now i wear waders they are pretty common, when they get agro the blue rings will flash. Regards Dan.
  13. Hi, I have fished Tommo's around four times in the last month and have been paying attention to how other keen fisho's are set up. Most fly fishers wear a vest, seen them wearing/carrying waders. Some use a strip basket as gregl said so i would take waders with you if you flyfish. Don't walk in them up to the wall unless they are really comfortable. Shorter thigh high waders would be best as you will most likely go knee deep anyway, i am considering buying them, as my waders are chest high for prawning i won't be using these there, if you can get some thermaly insulated ones they would be best as the water is getting chilly. The water has risen about half a metre in a few weeks so there is a lot of submerged grass/shrubs especially around the shallow points/flats which can play havock with the fly line so walking past this would be a advantage. Personally i have mostly spinned the edges and carry a small back pack with a dis assemble fly rod as i have done well one day on spinning and be blitzed by fly fishers as i was seeing the trout follow the hard bodies and swirling away at the last minuite. I will continue to keep this set up with the adition of some shorter comfy waders should complete me as the walk up is all up hill and take 15 min to the eastern side, at least double that if you go to the western side. Most spin fishers that i have seen don't have waders, but they would help in the grassy bays/points. I hope this helps as the last thing you want is to get up there and say " i should of brought that" Regards dan.
  14. We are normal, everyone else is crazy they don't know what they are missing out on. Regards Daniel.
  15. Hi, I went to proserpine two years ago and my outfit was a series one raider barra magnum rod, calcutta 400B with 50lb fireline and i used 60 - 80 lb shnider mono for a trace. So far between me and my mate this outfit has landed 3 barra being 113, 121 & 124 cm. If you fish the sticks then you need the heavier braid for the abrasion resitance of the trees and also the heavy drag from the calcutta reel. All the fish were caught on the rmg scorpions in 125 & 150 size so make sure you take some with you. Make sure you have a variety of different colour lures as one colour can work better on the day. Now i want to go barra fishing again, hope this helps. Regards Daniel
  16. During a extended easter break down at Lake Conjola i managed to catch this nice 86 cm flatty on a 6" hard body lure. I also caught a 66 cm one, both were released in perfect condition. Over the week fishing was a little slow, the enterance is open again but there is no tidal movement, the water is very slowly trickling out due to the amount of fresh water in there. Its a good feeling to catch such a nice fish, get a quick pic and watch her swim away. regards Daniel.
  17. Nice fish mate, brings back some awesome memories. Well done.
  18. Nice fish. I fished there on sunday, ended up catching four small rainbows around the 27 - 30 cm mark on hard body's.
  19. My mate has caught them in June before.
  20. Hi, Good news mate. Just six months ago lake Lyle was at 25% and the threat of being closed to boats was growing. I was going to go up last weekend but i saw the "de" webside had the water level from 56 - 77% in a week. I will try and go up to wet a line soon, can't wait.
  21. Hi fellow fishos, I am trying to get my hands on some Zipbait Rigge Deep 35F lures in colour number 851. Below is a photo of the colour that i am after, the only difference this is the shallow version. I have tried many tackle stores, online shop etc but no luck. Has anyone seen them in their local tackle store, site sponsors who have them ? who is the Aust distributor ? Any help will do Regards dan.
  22. With the pike if you bleed them when you catch them, because they have a oily flesh they are ok smoked.
