  1. Will have to have a look next time, never noticed any coal, but I've never fished off there. We launch the boat at the ramp there.
  2. Nice fish mate, but where or what are you calling the port kembla coal mine. I live less than 10min drive from port kembla but have never heard of the coal mine. Is it the Southern breakwall you're on?
  3. So where is a good spot for a honeymoon that also has some good fishing. Will be going in march next year, maybe north QLD somewhere. She says she doesn't mind if I do a little bit of fishing where ever we go but we're not going to a purely fishing place, I tried to talk her into ET's Groote Eylandt sport fishing lodge in the NT but she wouldn't be in that. Any suggestions???
  4. Nah mate, I'm from Windang myself and actually know the guy who was attacked and it was definatley a shark, a dusky whaler to be precise. He had a shark expert from DPI come to his house yesterday to talk to him and look at the bite marks. Check out the Illawarra Mercury today. The bloke reckons it had a few bites at him. This isn't the 1st shark we've had in the lake since the entrance has been opened. Oh and the seal has been around for longer than a week. Check out my post in fishing chat from monday. Love that news report too, 1st he's 23 then 25, but he's actually 24.
  5. No worries, it's not a big deal. My reason was just that previously when I've posted a report or question etc. and while waiting for a reply I've been looking at other parts of the forum I've wondered if there was actually any members viewing the section I've posted in or not. With my suggestion each time you return to the main page you could see if there was anyone in the section without actually having to go into it. Also just be good to know what all the members that are online are looking at. Thanks for considering it.
  6. Would it be possible to have something showing how many people are viewing each section on the main forum page? For example- Fishing Reports (10 people currently viewing) or Fishing Chat (15 people currently viewing) What are your thoughts on this, I seen it on another forum and thought it was quite good.
  7. Always got to be someone who hijacks a thread to have a whinge. Back to the original post, thats a classic, makes you wonder how and why it's there.
  8. Any one out there want to go shark fishing but don't have a big enough boat? Come down to Windang and you might have! My mate got bitten by a bull shark in the lake under the road bridge today. 40 or 50 puncture wounds to his right calf, he's OK but. Watch the news tonight.
  9. Hi Diver, it's a holiday house mate. You can only access it by boat. You have your own jetty out the front of the house, it's unreal mate. The only thing is, the houses are built on the side of the mountain/cliff, it's not that high up but the steps are pretty steep. For example, my 3yr old couldn't walk up or down by herself, she had to hold someones hand, she doesn't usually need help to walk a flight of stairs. Do yourself a favour and go, but for more than a couple of days, it's just not long enough. All Blue Swimmers mate.
  10. Just got back today from 2 days up the Hawkesbury, stayed at Bar Point, Beautiful. My olds are up there for a week and wanted us to bring the kids up for a day or 2. Didn't get to do a lot of fishing and when we did it was just a drift or 2 out the front of the place we were staying, spent too much time running around in the boat seeing the place, absolutely beautiful place, will definatley be back and keep the tips I was given in the chat section in mind. We did however, get heaps of crabs, some small and some good size ones. My old man had the traps going for a few days before we got there and we kept them going while we were there and had plenty for us all, I even bought a dozen home to share with my pop, my brother, a couple more for me and even 2 for the in-laws. My 3yr old daughter had a ball checking the pots and watching the crabs come aboard. All in all, great couple of days and can't wait to get back.
  11. Cheers for all the tips guys, just a little late as I was only there 2 nights (mon and tue) and got home earlier today. See report.
  12. Don't think so mate, I havn't used it for a while but I live pretty local to there and havn't heard anything. Unless you're talking about 1 of the old ramps which are closed now but the new 1 (a few years old) I'm 99.9% sure is all good.
  13. Yeh mate, I think you might have confused Port and Bellambi, Wollongong only has a single laned ramp and no cleaning tables, it's in Wollongong harbour near the trawlers. Port is in Port Kembla harbour, you launch in a little bay which is basicly protected by breakwalls from all directions and has a few boats moored on your left as you head out, once you leave there you travel about 1km with a big breakwall on your right, then once past there you turn to the right and head out to sea/the islands. Sound familiar?
  14. Hi all, heading up to the hawksebury for a couple of days tomorrow, staying at bar point. Just wondering if anyone can advise of any good spots to drift for flattys around there and/or any good places to beach the boat, have some lunch, let the kids have a swim and dad have a fish from the bank thats not waisting my time. I've never been to the hawkesbury so any help appreciated. Thanks.
  15. Hi Jewgaffer, yeah the fishing has been very quiet down here lately. I thought we were going to have a good summer on the flattys but I couldn't have been more wrong, theres an old bloke I know down here who would always catch fish, never missed, he hasn't even been going out. There were plenty of whiting around about a year ago but they're gone and havn't came back. The entrance has only been open again for around 18 months, it will hopefully stay open this time and the fish will come back. Thats why there's no fish, the entrance was closed for so long the fish have been wiped out. It should stay open as they built 2 big breakwalls, time will tell I suppose. I was down the ramp today having a look and seen schools of white bait around the jetty for the 1st time in years so thats a good sign. How long since you been down here becuase the yellow marker and rock wall you referred to is how the lake used to be, it all got made very touristy in that area when they done the entrance and breakwalls with a little bay for swimming etc. Prawns have been good last year and this year, thats why I thought we'd have a good year on the flattys. I havn't been out this season but have heard good reports although they're only small prawns, last season I got them (plenty of them) up to 6 inches long, no bullsh!t. Good on ya mate, have fun.
  16. Hi Dave, I'm actualy a local down windang and can tell you that the ramp here is the best and closest for you to use and yeah theres plenty of facilities there. As for fish, they're very few and far between in the lake, I wouldn't make a special trip down here if you'll be disapointed at not catching a feed, if you're happy with a good day on the water and maybe a fish or 2 then you wont be disapointed. THe most productive time has been the slack water between the run out and run in tide which is only 1/2hr tops because the tide runs that quick in the lake now it's too fast to do a nice slow drift.
  17. Well done on the catch mate, just thought I'd point out that there's no size limit on leatherjacket, only a bag limit of 20.
  18. If you want to go around the islands (i'm assuming scrubworm means Port Kembla Islands ) you'd be better off driving by road to port kembla and launching from there, it's about an 8 or 9 mile run south from Bellambi to the northern most island. Besides that Bellambi ramp is pretty poor and Port has a fairly new 3 laned ramp, a multi level jetty, good cleaning tables and heaps of parking. Hope this helps, good luck.
  19. what do you call not too far from Sydney, 1HR, 2HR etc, etc. Shoalhaven heads is real nice.
  20. If you can get a puller on there that would be my preferred option as its a much more even force rather than hitting it in 1 spot.

    Ice

Dunno if you already know this or not but you should always have the plug in you're esky removed for just ice (not a slurry obviously) so the water drains out as fresh water sitting in an esky causes the ice to melt quicker.
  22. They got me a few weeks ago, not an RBT but highway patrol, just south of wollongong. Blew 0.08, so now unlicenced, go to court on Jan 14, solicitor reckons 6 months off the road and $800 fine. I think I'm going to go insane having to be driven around by my mrs, she can't drive for sh!t, scars the crap out of me, thats punishment enough.
  23. I would care if I didn't get 1 present, but the thing I'm most looking forward to is seeing my 3yr old girl enjoy the day. This is the first year she has understood santa and what s actually going on, I can't wait.
  24. Thanks guys for the replys, sounds like they'll be usefull to me, flattys and bream are what I mostly chase in the lakes and rivers but just havn't done a lot of SP fishing.
  25. G'day guys, I recently bought a mixed bag of SP's off a guy with way too many and there are a few types there I've got no idea what to use them on. So basicly I'm after some advice off some SP guru's, what are they good for. They are as follows: 2" Baby shrimp in New Penny 2" Shrimp in Nuclear Chicken 6" Sandworm Nereis in Bloody and also New Penny 3" Pogy in Anchovy 3" Fry in Green Pumpkin Turtle Back Worm in Pumpkinseed, not sure on the length of these as the packet is open so the top part with the length is missing, from head to tail they're 5", don't know if thats the way you're supposed to measure them. Any advice on what I should use these for would be muchly appreciated. Thanks
