  3. G'day Raiders Went up to the Hawkesbury on Australia day. Headed out to west head at about 630 with about 20 others with the same idea. We didn't have any luck with yakka's as we only got 1. Dont't think anybody else did either. Decided to give that a miss and went and got 3 squid and headed back down the river to try for some jewies. Tried the first spot and managed about 10 soapies ranging from 35cm to around 50cm (more on the 35cm end). Moved spots for the change of the tide with the same result, around 10 more soapies in the same size range. Due to other commitments ( ) packed up and left at around 12. All in all a good day out and just felt great to be an Aussie!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers Brett
  4. I just got back from cowan creek and it was crazy the amount of boats out this morning. I put mine in early and there were still a lot of trailers from last night. Sounds like a good night anyway.
  5. G'day raiders, I have been searching for a new fish finder and have settled (i think) on the Garmin FF340c. Does anybody have this unit and are you happy with it. Secondly, it comes with either dual beam or dual frequency. What is the difference. I mostly fish the harbour and Hawkesbury and occasionally head offshore. Thanks Brett
  6. Great Day, Can't wait to see the pic's Cheers Brett
  7. Thanks for the advice guys and I will look into it. Cheers Brett
  8. Charter was Sea Scout II, run by andrew. He does packages for 3 nights accom and 2 days fishing or 5 nights and 3 days fishing. He was a good bloke and tried very hard to find fish on the first trip, which is why I went with him again. It was $100 for 6.5 hours. Accomodation is cheap outside school hols through all of the local real estate agents. They all have plenty of holiday rental houses. Didn't hear of any and didn't really target them. Mostly heard of large catches of rat kings. Bar was a bit rough the first week. Calmed down this week and I took my 14ft fiberglass boat out with no trouble. I asked the charter operator about Marlin and he said that there were none about as yet.
  9. Hi All, Just returned from 2 weeks in SWR. Went out on a couple of charters. First one not much luck as the current was too strong and could not find bottom over 40m. Came home with a couple of Snapper and a Pearl Perch. Was happy with the charter operator, so decided to try again. On Wednesday, headed out to the FAD 16ks off SWR with plenty of Slimeys. Trolled 4 rods out with no luck until we got to within 50m of the FAD. It was then that all 4 rods went off with 2 reasonable dollies and 2 rat kings. From that time on, the action did not stop until we ran out of live bait. Over about 1.5 hours, we caught at least 20 dollies ranging in size from about 80cm to the one in the pic, and lost countless more. It was my first time targeting these fish and will not be the last. When we ran out of live bait, we headed into Fish Rock with some freshly trolled up bonito and stripeys for bait. Fished there for about 2 hours and caught countless kings in the 50-60 cm range. At a guess, between 4 of us, we must have caught between 30 and 40 rats. Great fun and I will be definatly heading back ASAP. If anybody is heading that way, I can reccomend a good charter. Cheers Brett

  11. Hi all, Just after some advice on fish finders. I have a cheap and nasty at the moment, and need to upgrade. Just wondering what the preferances are, colour or black and white, and some reccomendations on brand etc. Probably looking at around $500 mark.
  12. This is my first report hopefully of many. Launched my tinny at East Gosford at 7:30am and travelled around to Empire Bay. Drifted down the edge of the channel for a couple of Flattys around 40 cm and my old man picked up 2 nice leatherjacket, which took us both by surprise considering he was using 4/0 hook. Moved on to the Eastern side of the Rip Bridge for another 2 Flattys of similar size and another accidental leatherjacket. Started heading home and stopped in Paddys Channel for one last drift and managed 3 nice Squid which followed the baits to the boat and were welcomed in by the landing net. Great day, great weather, great feed coming up tonight
  13. Thanks Pedro. Saves me a flogging from the missus. Have you heard of any Hairtail around. I have never fished for them before and may give it a try.
  14. I am thinking of heading into Cowan creek on Sat arvo and returning at around 9pm. Could anyone tell me if the gates in the national park are locked at night? Can I get out of the park after dark? If so is Akuna Bay Ramp any better?
