Went down to Berowra for a fish with the kids yesterday arvo. Hit the water at around 4pm. The kids were using bait, while I was throwing some plastics. Fished for a couple of hrs for no action. Said to the kids, 1 last cast at about 6.30pm, As soon as the lure hit the bottom, I was on, and over the next hour got about 8 fish, 4 keepers, but got touches on every cast, being new to plastics, probably missed more than I hooked. Finished the day with a nice feed, and 2 happy , but tired kids. Would love to get down there for this afternoons low tide, as there are plenty around, however would not touch bait

Heaps of flatties of that size around at the moment. Looks like a good feed, well done kids

Hi, I have finally got myself a bigger boat to head offshore reasonably comfortably in good weather. I would like to try to target some of the dollies hitting our coastline over the next couple of months. Any advice would be appreciated on lures, baits, etc. I have always been able to get yakkas, but slimeys seem to be the livey of choice. are there any reliable spots to stock up before heading out.

Havent posted for a couple of years, but finally have something to write about. just bought a quinnie spirit 530 and have been Fishing constantly for three weeks now. Went out this morning from berowra. Picked up some yakkas with a plan to troll for kings around barrenjoey and nearby headlands. That lasted about 5 mins until I snagged the downrigger ball and lost it. It was a cheap downrigger which came with the boat with no line counter. Trolled for a while longer until my son said he felt sick, so back to berowra creek we go in search of some tasty flatties. Picked up a three keepers in total including my sons first flatty, which he was stoked about. Got the third one on a plastic just sitting in the rod holder while cleaning the other 2. Not the greatest result, but vary happy to see the excitement from my son with his fish.

Hi all, I am heading to the USA in September with the wife and kids. I was hoping to sneak off for a day in LA or San fransisco and find a charter. Has anybody done this?, and I would appreciate any tips. Cheers Brett

I bought my last one from the USA and paid about half of the price that I would have paid here. Just make sure the warranty details are clear, but with the way the dollar is at the moment, you can get a much better unit for your money.

My neighbour has been telling me for months that he would take me out in his 15ft canoe for a night Bream session. I wouldn't say that this sounded like my preferred type of fishing, but hey, it is a summer evening on the water, so I agreed. Headed down to Go Fish and got some bait and put the canoe in at around 8pm. Having never been in a boat like this before, I was a bit nervous, but after around 5oom of paddling I was getting used to it. We eventually pulled up out the front of some houses and started fishing. The tecnique he used was simple. A box of around 30 pre rigged handlines in the middle of the canoe with unweighted hooks as there are plenty of bust offs, so you just drop the hookless one and get another and continue fishing. The first 15 mins or so were pretty quiet, but that soon changed with plenty of fish being caught. We finished with 8 keepers ranging from 27cm to 32 cm and it seemed like hundereds of throwbacks. It turned out to be an unexpected great fishing experience on a perfect evening and something I look forward to doing again in the near future.

A bloke at south west rocks showed me. He used a fairly large float on the bottom of the rig with a normal bait jig cut down to 3 hooks above it tied to a swivel then the main line. Hooks were baited with bread. Worked very well.

I was shown by a charter operator. It is just a heavy jig, (I use 400g with the hooks removed) on a running swivel on the main line above another swivel which joins your main line and leader of what ever length you like. Very simple and seems to work ok. I would rather have the real thing, but the minister(ess) for war and finance would not be happy with the credit card statement.

Good on ya flatty, motor probs are slightly more bearable after a good session.

Seems to go ok. Braid tangles with the jig a bit, but we got 11 rats in about 1 hr, 9 with this method. Only problem is that you can't control the depth

It has been a while since I could write a report, but finally got out fishing yesterday. Hit the water at around 530am at Brooklyn. Headed around to pittwater and chased some squid, but could only manage 2 in the first spot. We decided to move on and try elsewhere. As we were heading to the next spot, the sounder came alive with bait everywhere and predators hanging around. Set up my poor mans downrigger (400g jig) and started slow trolling with some frozen sqiud that I had caught a few days earlier. As i was trying to set up the second rod, the first goes off and my dad lands a 60cm king. Quite happy with ourselves we rebaited and started again, but not 2 mins later, we hook up again with similar result. After about 20 mins of this, the kings start smashing up on the surface, so I hurredly went for the brand new 2-4 kg rod that I has bought from go fish at dural earlier in the week. It was then that I caught my first 2 kings on plastic. They were only around 61cm, but I was stoked. It was incredible on light gear. After running out of bait, we decided to chase some more. We could only manage 1 squid in around an hour, so headed back into the Hawkesbury as the wind was getting up. We decided to set ourselves up in one of the Hawkesburys worst kept secret spot X's for the last couple of hours of the run up. Sat there for the 2 hours with only catching one jew of about 30cm and a small ray. As it was getting a bit hot and blowey, we decided that we would finish our drinks and head home. As I was raising the can to my mouth for the last mouthful, my rod goes off and I land a 55cm Jew. No monster of the deep, but at least something to put on the BBQ after a long and enjoyable day out. Total for the day, 11 kings all released, 2 small jew, 3 squid, 1 broken brand new graphite spin stick as dad lent on it against the side of the boat and 2 huge smiles.

Hey Slinky, Thanks the phone call. I was instantly jealous. Great shots and looks like the move is going well. I am entering negotiations with the minister for war and finance for a sneaky weekend on the Gold Coast, Have to approach these matters gently, so it should take a couple of months and a few "yes dear, we can watch Sex in the city again", but I think it can happen. Did the same for my bucks. Small piece of advice... Dont take the tender with the outboard, It makes it very hard to retrieve from the bottom of the river and losing your $1000 bond makes the beer taste bad, although 3 years later it makes a funny story. Stick with the oars, it is cheaper any funny to watch your pissed mates row around in circles
