  1. That was GOLD im still laughing as I type good read keep it up
  2. Akuna bay in the Hawkesbury is a popular land based spot for hairtail can basically fish out of your car, or you can do the hike down the Jerusalem bay track if your fit and dont mind a solid walk, but only walk it in day light hours.
  3. Nice Jewy All fish have jewels its just the size that varies. They are in fact the ear bones and if you cut them in half and polish them you can tell how old the fish is by counting the lines much like counting the growth rings in trees, each ring represents a year, although the rings don't start to show until around one year or two old
  4. ROFL , you look like a bloody big turtle if you ask me, look out for the NOAH's
  5. What is the go with the colour of that jewie, i've never seen anything like it, did it go to one of those salons where they get purple hair?
  6. Simple, sit on the back of the wave and drive to the conditions as everyday is different trough, crest and period, match it no probs.
  7. Is this correct are we now starting at 5am at clifton gardens instead of 6am? Also my better half can't make it so i'm bringing my mate from work Josh instead is that ok?
  8. My mate from work Josh and myself decided we'd hit the lower Hawkesbury up on Saturday arvo and night in hope of a Jewie or two, with some live Yakka's and squid, but the conditions were atrocious with very little action and a Howling Easterly blowing well into the night. So while we were sipping back on a few coldies and waiting for a non exsistent bite with the boat at anchor doing Pirouettes and Josh swearing that the Hawkesbury has no fish in it except for the Port Jackson and Hammerhead shark that he had just caught, we hatched a plan that in the morning, we would throw on some lures and troll from Flint and Steal out around Barrenjoey and back again along West Head towards Soldiers Point. Again the conditions wern't great in the morning with a wind chop on top of a wind swell making it not so comfy, but we persisted as you do, once we were out past Barrenjoey the water was looking that real nice dark blue colour that you tell yourself this is fishy water, then a heap of very small choppy tailor were working something really small and we both thought there might be some larger fish below them but that wern't the case, so we headed back to West Head stayed for about 20min with still no Bites then decided even a couple of Flatties will do to make the trip worth while so we decided to do a drift over near Soldiers Point. On our way over there we noticed a heap of boats spinning franticly near a flock of birds working the surface, so we threw out the lures and continued trolling on our way to where we were going to bottom bash. Once there we retrieved our lures only to find a heap of kingies following them right to the boat, both of us blown away by what we had just seen there was that mad rush and scramble to the spinning gear to tie on some soft plastics and start flicking, a couple of minutes into it WHAM my SP gets nailed and a few minutes later up comes my second ever kingie at 60cm and i was just stoked, about five minutes after that Josh gets nailed by his first ever kingy which went 55cm, and let me tell you he was a pretty happy lad. In the next 20 minutes or so we got hit numerous times with a few follow ups and hook ups where the hooks pulled a few minutes into the fight and then it started to get quiet and we thought they might have gone deeper so we let our SP's sink, so Josh casts out puts the rod in the holder turns around to get a drink while his SP is sinking and WHACK he was on again and a few minutes later after a few good solid runs up comes Josh's second ever kingie which also went 60cm. Although they were only rats and we had to release them, it really did perk up the vibe and make for a great time that otherwise would have been a dud trip (photo's below). Question? why are they always just under legal size?
  9. Nice first jew there mate , they are always fun to chase, hope you got its jewels as a trophie
  10. Yeah its me, but I won't be back at work until the 12th, Who are you by the way Fisholic? All the samplers know I love my fishing, send me a PM if you don't want people to know your name, talk to you when I see you. Cheers Stuart
  11. The better half and myself decided that we would go and spend new years eve and new years day on the boat in the hawkesbury having a fish, so we packed the boat and headed to Brooklyn, with the idea of anchoring in one of the holes under the railway bridge. Once there i was thinking that it might not be all that comfortable due to the howling wind so we headed around to Jerusalem bay for some shelter, dropped anchor and selted in for the night. Started fishing on sunset along with a few drinks, and things were quiet until I hear 'ooo i've got something' and the better halfs 6kg outfit starts screeming, I think to myself gee thats a solid fish less than two minutes later it had wrapped its self around the anchor rope and let itself go, I think it might have been a schoolie. The rest of the night was quiet fishing wise, but the bourbons and the people on the cruiser with the pretty outstanding fire works made the night. Slept to about 6am having dreams about kingfish which woke me up, go figure. So i got up thru out a line and had a stretch, sixty seconds later I thought bugger this so I woke the lady and said lets go around to pittwater, got to flint and steel and decided to troll a red and white rapala on the ten kilo outfit and thought bugger it I'll put the white soft plastic that bought from GO FISH Dural on the 6kgoutfit thinking to myself the rapala will get the fish I don't think these plastics are really used for trolling. About 15 minutes later as we were going around West Head right past half a dozen boats anchored there WHAM the six kilo out fit is buckling and screeming and the missus says I think you got something, so I Knock it into neutral and pick up the rod and boy did it go,I thought wow whats this it must be a kingy and sure enough a couple of minutes later up comes my first ever kingy it was only 55cm which earnt it its freedom, but I tell you what, I am so determined to get a legal fish but I hope it isn't on the 6kg gear as I reckon they have more pull than a bus load of school boys. The rest of the trip was quiet except for another rat following up my live yakka that I threw out at the same spot I got my first. Heres the pick anyway
  12. Hmmm don't know either, count the stripes they don't change.
  13. Yeah I heard that the man made reefs that they put in for artifial habitat were studied by divers and they regularily saw sharks there , But has anyone ever been attacked there I don't think so, although theres always a first time.
  14. Not bad and very cheap to do, but personally i would buy window locks that you install yourself for around $20 each with the only tools needed being a Cordless drill, In saying that though the problem is if they really want to get in they will.
  15. G'Day sounds like a great day of fun and learning, can you put me and my better half down as tentative as i don't know if i'll be working that weekend . If I am not working you can count on us being there Thanks Stuart and Karen
  16. I used contact adhesive when i did mine, If you want to remove it just do a few strips or large patches of glue instead of doing the whole area, that way you can lift it and remove the old strips and patches of glue with less fuss, i don't know what else you can do, if you don't glue it it will constantly bunch up and move around and be dangerous. you could also possibly use heavy rubber mats with the checkered shape holes instead of carpet as it won't bunch up and move around as much if at all. Hope this helps
  17. I live in Sydney and put in at Brooklyn on the hawkesbury as i enjoy chasing jewies, I've only had it for about 3mnths and haven't been able to use it much due to work comittments although the few times i have used it i have had some success, If i can get the weekend of the Kingy Social off I might give it ago, never caught a Kingy and i'm going to make it my mission to catch one this season 'a rat would do' Hows the fishing up your way? I lived in Ballina for 4yrs, Jewie capital if you ask me.
  18. Thanks Blackfish, he went back to the depths as I was not game enough to even try it. It was ugly looking.
  19. Here's my hole in the water a 5.35m Stejcraft with an 85 yamaha, gets me too where the fish are
  20. Caught this guy on a very large and very fresh (5 seconds out of the water fresh) tailor fillet which lasted less than 5 minutes in the water before being nailed.
  21. Caught this fish about a month ago at Flint and Steel, its the first time iv'e ever seen one of these, does anyone have a name for it? I put it as an attachment is this right?
  22. All Done, it will be interesting to see what our future has in store for us, hopefully more of this
