  1. sorry i may have confused people as i was after a nice squidding spot last night but decided to post photos up in the post as well - totally random. What you see in the photos are actual occies , one of them was about 1metre in length
  2. Are you using servo bait ? It's a good idea to have fresh squid, perhaps some you caught yourself as servo squid will often sit there untouched unless lj's are in plague proportions AND THERE! Also i purchase my bait from the markets, fresh school prawns , mullet etc. The best thing to do though is catch your bait live Live nippers are a gun bait! Especially now in winter, fish are few and far between so you have to work harder to catch them, if the fish aren't on the bite after 1 hr I move. Many people will say just stay abit longer, but it's alittle hard when you're pressed for time. I also have a plan beforehand , if i'm not catching in one spot i'll know where my next spot will be. I would also burley - chicken pellets and tuna oil does the trick, even mashing a loaf of bread till it's milky. Also take note of what works when you are actually catching fish , quite often you can use the same formula and add abit to it - remember 10 % of fishermen catch 90% of the fish. This website has taught me alot and my fishing has improved remarkably because of all the great help from our fellow raiders.
  3. hehe i caught that kingy on a cheap 100lb handline i set up from+_+_) on a fresh squid i caught the day before, the knife was ready incase the handline wrapped around my legs or something, bit hard to cut though if you're on a hoodlum
  4. Hi Guys, Planning on going squidding tonight , it's going to be hard because water temp is low. However i'm after a landbased spot that has a chance of catching something . We have access to a dingy but it would have to be somewhere very safe , i'd much prefer land based. Also here are some pics of me in my glories back in summer.
  5. I think it's a brilliant idea - yuo might have to do it at 3am like Kramer on seinfield
  6. Hey Guys this is the leather jacket rig compliments of the old school ssfc fishos and myself
  7. thanks fellas i'll give it a shot hopefully all goes well
  8. Hey all, Our plan over the weekend was to try and target kingies in middle harbour and along the reefs, wedding cakes. Problem is the weather may not be too good, and a great fellow fishraider mentioned chinamen leatherjackets are stripping all live bait clean soooooooooo i'm changing plan. Good news is we love chinamen leatheries and would like to do our bit to help cull them alil ( if that's possible ) . If anyone could suggest any spots that would be great. I use to catch heaps at 12 mile on steel trace and solid hooks but i'd prefer to try the harbour because of the winds..
  9. thanks Jewgaffer , will take that into consideration , i'm visiting afew fishing stores this arvo
  10. Thanks framed trash! i'll look out for it - sounds like a good deal
  11. Hi all, I'm after 70lb braid that's good in quality and price - there seem to be afew varieties on blah blah poop however i'm abit cautious about the quality ? Also does anyone know what colour is best ? I don't want it to stand out too much possibly scare the fishies away - then again i could use a fluro leader, however i can't find them in 80lb either ..
  12. Musty i just watched xxxxxxxxxx kingfish sessions again and i'm a desperate man - you must understand i've got a bad itch now.. Great post musty , i'm actually thinking of trying the harbour instead now
  13. Hey all, I've now upgraded my shimano 6500b with new washers , and am going to lay 80lb braid on it. To some this might be excessive, however i want to tackle kingies that reach potential hoodlum size. Because i've spent abit already i just want a rod to get me by for the time being - my wonderful friend at my local tackle shop offered me a shimano 8 - 15 kg rod for about $ 70. it's 7ft - would that be good enough gang ? Any help would be greatly appreciated
  14. Thanks for your help gang - much appreciated
  15. Hey raiders, I've never fished for kingies at this time of year so i was just wondering if there's a chance of catching kingfish in botany bay at the moment ? My gut feeling is that they start appearing in numbers around november - am i wrong or right ? Thanks for you help raiders.
  16. i saw a seal in middle harbour on the weekend and i was landbased. So i can confirm that.
  17. Thanks for your input raiders , if i have a mate it's usually manageable however on my own things do get busy. That aside, i love being busy sometimes when it's quiet i don't mind baiting and re casting , things don't get boring - however i find usually when i'm baiting or casting , something gets a hit , it's as if baiting and casting is a good luck thing lol
  18. Jewgaffer recommended wanda too, thanks guys Has anyone had good experiences at wanda or cronulla beach ? Feel free to share , there doesn't seem to be much the net
  19. I love whiting , superb clean fish. I'd be happy with whiting anyday. Then again a jewwie wouldn't go astray either.
  20. Thanks Trapper Tom and Tumra, brilliant advice! Keep the advice coming raiders, i love reading your posts
  21. wow, i thought it was 5 per person. Well then i guess i'll have to take 1 rod away.
  22. thanks Tamra, i didn't know you had to work bait for whiting - good tip
  23. Hi All, I'm considering the possibility of fishing Cronulla beach consistently with a friend on a weekly basis. Lately, i've been all over Sydney and can't help but feel as if i'm learning nothing. My plan is to hit the beach at 6am to 3pm on a Saturday every week. I know it's somewhat harder to target certain species during the day, however i want to give it a shot. I'll have 3 - 12 ft rods out, each with a different bait ( 2 baitrunners and an large surf alvey ). I'm hoping to catch anything from a Great white to jewwies, salmon or tailor. In addition to this i want to space out 6 breaming rods using lighter gear and baited with nippers, worms, pillies and prawns. That way as i wait to get a hit on the bigger rods i can have some fun ( or not ) with the lighter gear and target the smaller fishies ( bream , whiting , flatties , etc ). Also, I plan to spread out 2 onion burley bags using the Colonel's secret herbs and spices.. The reason i want to do this is so i can start to educate myself, to learn how tides, wind, structure, water, gutters , perform each time i go out. Essentially, i want to find a good combo that increases the probility of catching fish as opposed to pot luck spots. Cronulla beach is close to me, and i think it has good potential. Anyone have any thoughts ? or is my great idea a bad idea ? P.S. I don't think i'll be catching great whites
  24. this advice is killer, just when i thought i had tried everything I realised i hadn't! I'll set up a 4lb fluro line with one hook only to see how i go - thanks again Raiders top notch stuff
  25. Guys i use to go bottom bashing with a club using an old alvey winch. We would collect heaps per session. However they have very sharp teeth and can bite through steel, so we used 100lb braid and thick 3/0 or 4/0 hooks with a 120lb wire trace. They couldn't bite through the wire trace but occasionally they would bite the braid. If you wanna clean them up you must use with this rig. Use mullet and squid chunks.
