  1. Hey all, My father in law decided to mount a new four piece rod holder to the back of the railing on our bowrider. I didn't realised this but it was only held together with split clips... we drove back from botany bay boat ramp back to Illawong! When we got home the whole thing was missing - rods and all! We know they weren't stolen because there was an indication they had fallen off, and my father in law hadn't mounted them properly.. Lucky they were'n't toooo expensive but everything was new! grrrr all rods had tiny shimano reels matched up with a combo of shimano rods and jarvis walker rods. Total cost $300 inlc holder - if anyone hears about this please pm me $ 50 reward - Thanks
  2. Finally purchased a 20cm sunbeam vacuum sealer ! they work a damn treat BUTTTT quick question As soon as i catch live squid i whack them in a bucket and replenish the water every so often until i go home...As soon as i get home i vacuum seal them str8 away ! Like i said the sealer works a treat and the squid looks nice and brown ( natural looking ) on the top but after afew days i noticed the belly has a very slight TINGE OF PINK - does this mean my bait is useless ? I always keep my bait fresh and make sure no fresh water gets to them - on a whole i'd say 90% of the squid looks fresh like i just caught it as soon as i take it out of the freezer , it's just the underside with the tinge of pink i'm worried about... I'm using them for baits for kingfish... i think they're fine as they're fully sealed, i just thought that no pink should show up once they're vacuum sealed ? are my baits stuffed ?
  3. thanks swordfisherman, much appreciated, i'll try get down there before they shut the national park gates orr do they keep them open ?
  4. Hey a dawg, I really suck at squidding, i'm not sure if i've asked you this before but could you recommend any spots? i love the hackingn but just don't know where to go , any help would be greatly appreciated. . I have afew at clifton gardens but it's sooo very far away and after 3 hours of squidding i only manage 1
  5. what about the aldi vacuum sealer, any good ?
  6. Arvo gents and ladies, I've decided to go all professional and vacuum seal my squid as soon as i get home after keeping them in water - even though i have no squid to show for it lol I was wondering if anyone can help me out, i don't mind paying abit to get a good vacuum sealer, so long as the bags are cheap .. Can anyone recommend a good brand with cheap bags ? I heard sunbeam are great but bags are expensive. . I read one person buys the resealable bags ( Glad for example ) , cuts off the seals and sticks one inside the other for thickness , then whacks them into the machine. Anyone recommend this idea ? or have any tricks to save on bags ?
  7. Hey all, Looks like i won't get a chance to get me some squid b4 i head out on Saturday morning, as i'm working! Last week i caught a couple myself and kept them live until i got home. I later placed them in a zip log bag and used them the next day ( after putting them in the fridge ) and yes i caught a nice kingy Buttt this weekend i might not get a chance. Anyone know any bait shops that sell very fresh squid ( not touched with fresh water ) . I live in the St. George area. I've been to the fish markets but they're all on ice and pink - no green eyes. Thanks fello fishos
  8. Hey matey i think i saw you at Cliffo on the Saturday? I was there from 4.30am in the morning but squidding off the wharf, i left by around 7.30am - i only caught one squid and a baby cuttle for livebait. Where you the fellas in the boat towards the rocks ? - whiteboat not much detail ? I'm pissed coz i didn't catch much damn it..

  10. Just wondering if it's possible to use small occies as live bait ? Anyeone tried this ? or would this just scare off the kings?
  11. i think the size was 1.8 it was tiny.. i would let it sink, then the squid woul disappear but i lifted it after about 20 seconds. Maybe i should of left it....Also how do they feel when they strike ? i don' remember.. Another problem was that this jig took forever to sink and there was always to much slack , but the minute i would tighten my lines the jig would come to close to the top as i was fishing off a wharf...
  12. Hey all, yesterday I ventured out clifton gardens for a couple of hours of fishing in the afternoon - it took me forever to get there and to top it off i had to pay $6 to stay for only 2 hours Anyhow, I didn't expect to see much squid as it was windy and the first sunnish afternoon since the rains. I flicked my new pink 1.8g yo zuri and after about half an hour I noticed some of them following BUT NO TAKERS! This was my first time squidding in 10 years , what was i doing wrong ? i saw them come to the surface but they weren't biting. Perhaps i was winding too fast? any suggestions ? A couple of blokes around me caught 3 or 4 and i caught nothing !!! HELP PLEASE
  13. hey urchin, Could i ask whereabout in balmoral ? i've got no bloody idea
  14. Hey All. Over the past couple of days i've purchased two new yo zuri jigs - one in a natural colour size 2.0 and the other in a fluro pink size 1.8 .. I'm happy to drive anywhere around the harbour area or even botany bay/ hacking area - as i have 4 hours up my sleeve tonight ( landbased ). I'm based in surry hills ( work ) and can go either way. I know it's raining , i know the water is murky but i'm just dying to get these buggers on the water for a flick no matter what.. Anyone able to recommend any good landbased spots ? I only know of walleys wharf so far, any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks gang

Also i purchased a natural looking 2.0 yo zuri squi jig - thinking of hitting up Wallys wharf when the weather gets better ( around 6pm ). Any other places you could recommend along the hacking matey ? Thanks Jewgaffer
  17. Hey all , Just wondering if anyone had any stories/pics of kingfish being caught on handlines ? Currently waiting for my new combo and just couldn't wait enough - purchased 2 reels with 80lb mono on each, sending both down (on springers) with livies - i hope i catch as i've been getting smoked on light gear lately. Any inspirational stories would be greatly appreciated. Personal thanks to dogtooth who has been a great source of inspiraiton
  18. Yes, you'll need a thicker meshing. The one's i've seen are rectangular in shape , collapsible and the mesh is either orange or blue, the meshing is alot thicker too. IThey are more expensive than witches hats about $15- $20. Whack them near the mangroves with half a mullet on each. You'll either catch em or you won't so move around , ask the locals and try different spots. Don't give up until you catch one. I've caught them using the above technique
  19. Hey all, Jewgaffer helped me out with some great sounding squidding spots in the st.george area - happy to go squidding in the georges and hacking river but i forgot to ask ( and i'm asking an additional question jewgaffer ) if anyone knows of any spots where i can go to at night - land based, that has good bright lighting ? I know squiddies love good lighting , that's why i'm asking - any help would be appreciated
  20. Studies from Elasmo - research have revealed - In a series of trials carried out at the Long Key Fishing Camp, Florida USA, a Cosmopolitan Sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) took out 91 metres of line, in just 3 seconds. This meant it was moving at 109 km/h. A Cheetah can do 96 km/h. You

  23. Hi all, Over the past few weeks i've been getting smashed and spooled by kingfish on the drift, i even caught one on a handline ! I havn't set up any rods for kingfish and am about to set up 3 combos to put out whilst on the drift for other fish! Would it be possible to get kingfish on the drift whilst fishing for other fish ? I like this approach because we are catching nice fish on the drift and i'm hoping to get the stray kingfish whilst targeting other fish. I'm going to have live bait on all three rods, and i'm going to send them down the bottom. Any thoughts ?
  24. Hey all, I'm on fire this week, can't wait to get out there and actually catch something. It might be alil windy tomorrow so i'm thinking of saving the day for prawning at night. I've got one spot already thanks to a great fishraider on here - but i was wondering if anyone knew of afew different prawning spots in the St.George area? Also is it best to fish em on a high tide or low tide ? I'm planning on making my own light also, any suggestions ?
