  1. Early start on Sunday morning (well 05:00), caught some poddy mullet last night, so bait wouldn't be an issue. Went down to McCarrs creek, the tide was still coming in, and not much wind, so things were looking good. Water was very clear and quite warm (well not cold). Put a livie near the jetty and waited. And waited. Checked bait, all OK. After 2 hours I'd had enough, so I found a spot further up the creek (up shit creek?) where there was a gap in the mangroves and cast out another livie. Nothing. Not a touch. Gave it an hour and went to Narrabeen lake near the sand flats at the caravan park (overfished, but at least the fish can't escape from the lake at the moment), where I was bound to catch at least a small flattie on a livie.....Nothing. Called it a day at 10:30. Has anyone caught anything at any of these places recently? Spoke to a bloke who'd caught a flounder at McCarrs creek, but no one else seemed to be catching. It least it can't get any worse. Hope you all did better than me! Cheers, Neil
  2. Yeh, good luck Jethro, I quit 3 weeks (nearly 4 weeks now) ago. Early Sunday morning I'll be fishing either Pittwater from the shore at Bayview for some of those big Bream on soft platics or pillie tossing on Narrabeen beach depending on winds. Tides look about right. All the best raiders!
  3. Thanks Bombie, I'll be there with my bream outfit (& maybe a heavier setup as well). S'pose I'll have to leave the changes of clothes in Sydney to cater for the extra weight... Cheers, Neil
  4. I'm off to Port Douglas in QLD next month for a few days. Has anyone got any advice to get the best out of the limited time I'll have to go fishing (I'll be there with my wife and son)? I'll be land based and would be grateful for any tips, locations etc. I've read a bit about it, but I find that often more honest information comes from this great site. Cheers, Neil
  5. G'day folks. Dawn start just north of Emerald St at Narrabeen saw overcast skies and persistent drizzle. High tide at about 08:30 am, low light conditions, should be ideal for a sambo or two I thought. Found a nice gutter and berleyed up with bits of pilchard and stuck a bait out. Nothing. Moved further south to another gutter, nothing. Even the terns were sitting on the beach, doing a fly past every now and then and not even bothering to dive. Gave it away at about 09:30. Haven't been so cold since a pike fishing episode in Pommyland in freezing fog - when the fog lifted I found my bait had been sitting on ice on the top of the lake... Anyway, I hope you guys have better luck than I did. Cheers, neil
  6. Got down to Narrabeen at 06:15 this morning. Found a nice looking gutter near Tourmaline St. and berleyed up the rip. Cast out a salted pillie, and went back to my tackle box to get some more berley, turned around and the rod was going nuts! Ran down to grab rod and realised that it was a bloody seagull attracted by the berley. Got the bird in and had to cut the line to free it, but managed to retrieve hooks and sinker and excess line. Tackled up again, sun was well up by this time (and my hopes were going down...), but ten minutes later hooked up to a 3kg salmon, took a good 10-15 mins to get it in. Returned the fish to the water, and noticed a dog getting too close to where I'd left my rod, what with hooks and all, told the owner to move the dog (which didn't happen) and then ranted about dogs on the beach etc. Dog and owner left quickly! Only thing after that was a crab... Left at about 08:45.
