Signed the papers on our new boat yesterday.
She is a Bayliner 305 powered by twin Mercruiser 350 MAG MPI's.
I now reside in Townsville so this will allow me to fish the reef in absolute comfort and allow us to duck down to Whitsundays for long weekends.

Thanks for the advise guys
She's a nice looking rig but its the stuff you can't see that worries me
Might just stick to outboards

Hi
i havnt been online for a while as i have left sydney and now living the good life on Magnetic Island in North Queensland
looking at getting a new boat that will suit both my needs and the mrs
we are looking at getting a 28 foot Mustang 2800 Sportscruiser the hull is from 2002
we live on a island so its going to be at our berth
i have only ever owned boats with outboards so this is where i need the advise of some wiser members
it is powered by a Volvo Penta 5.7 GXi-B petrol engine with 650 hours and duo prop leg. Equipped with neutra salt.
it has a 290 litre fuel and has just had the leg serviced and hull antifouled from what the current owner has said its not too bad on the fuel
he can do a return trip out to the reef which is around 140km on around 170ltrs of fuel and that is when he is sitting on 28knots
we would mostly be using the boat for cruising around the island and going on the odd trip out to the reef when the weather suits
he is chasing around 40k does this sounds about right for a boat of this age with 650hrs on the clock ???
looking forward to your thoughts
thanks
Simon

dont think mine shows that much detail when im zoomed that far out
-
just from looking at that picture i would say the transom is going to be soft
those cable management things look like they where just screwed in
im sure water has been soaking into the tranny thru those drill holes
-
thanks guys
was a great trip just a shame about the weather
the doggies are one fun fish to tangle with cant wait to get back over there to get some larger models
here is a clip of the doggie i got on a popper
rod is a JM gt monster with a gosa 18k with a williamson jet popper

few videos from the trip
video of my larger doggie
video of the big Dolly

Those centre consoles look the business. Clearly USA boats, I'm guessing Everglades or Intrepid??

just got back from a few days fishing in vanuatu
sadly the weather gods didn't want to play nice and each day we were greeted with 40km winds each and every day
we still got out each day to fish but we only really got to fish the 1 spot
still scored a few nice fish and drank a good chunk of the islands beer reserves
we never really targeted the gt's as we just stuck in close to a volcano to stay out of the winds and try tempt a doggie or 2
the other boat spent a few hrs each day on the gt's and managed 2
im not one for writing reports so ill just throw up some pictures taken through out the trip
looking forward to getting back over there -
Caught this little guy on a williamson jet popper few nights ago
Good cheap little lure
Fallings also worked a treat

Nice collection
Im heading to vanautu this afternoon for 4 days fishing ive got a suitcase full of tackle dont even have room for clothes
What rods n reels are you taking over
You might also want to invest in some short tuna style jigs as the doggies prefer them over your longer knife jigs
Heres a few of my latest additions to my bag of tricks
Jigging master fallings jigs and a few aswb stickbaits

Im skipping sydney all together
Flying up to darwin for the weekend
Will be targeting black jew and golden snapper
As long as the weather plays ball that is
-
flying to cairns for a weeks fishing followed by a weeks fishing in fiji
11 days to go
-
Looks good
One problem i see is that you have the bilge pump very close to your transducer
Transducers dont like too be too close to other electrical devices could cause issues when you run them together

Nice work mate
Ill be up there this friday fishing on the same boat did
Have a few spare spots if any one wants to join me
Pm for more info :-)
-
no issues with padlocks
but if customs wants to have a look in the tube they will just cut the padlock off
-
Still need some crew for friday
Fishing has been red hot with tripple hook ups on every drift the norm
Will be a top day out
PM for more info
-
agree with scotty
would be better off using a piece of PVC tubing then a softcase
-
booking a charter for a jigging session at almark port stephens next friday (28/09/12)
have a few empty seats that i need filled
the fishing there has been hot with the average king being in the 90cm bracket
PM me for charter/price information

Dont forget yamaha dont make yammylube
They get some one else to make it and just stick there label on it
I was under the impression that castrol are the ones that make yammylube
Ive got a 130hp yammy and i made the switch from yammylube to castrol and there has been no issues
Just more money in the bank
-
ill be up at Port Douglas chasing gts and other reefies
gotta love long weekends

Thanks, every thing is all tied up and all ropes doubled and insurance all paid up.
On the ferry back home now we have some people who live on the boats near by who will keep a eye on her for us.
