i personally use mustad hoodlum hooks for kingys just because the thickness of the hook and there very sharp best way to catch a kingy is unweighted
+1
and they are cheap
-
here you go

there first run of reels didnt go too well
i would stick with the known brands
the saragosa's are great reels for there price
what do you intend on doing with the reel ??
the 14/18000 are quite large and heavy
ive got the 8000 and i think its perfect for fishing sydney 12kg of drag is more then enough
-
Don't skimp on the hooks
Get yourself a packet of jigging master hooks in 10 and tie your own assist cords and use some JM figure 8 solid rings
Will give you the best chance of staying connected to the big fush
-
4lb leader it breaks at the uni that attaches my lure first. Hmmm might now have to review the lure connection knot!
Greg
i wonder if a chain knot will work on 4lb
i would go with either the pr or the fg both knots can be tied pretty quickly once you master it. the pr knot requires a bobin while the fg can be tied with no extra tools
tied correctly there never going to fail
-
you want to get a fermenter from a homebrew shop
from memory u r looking at around $30
-
tcurves have no place when targeting big NZ kings
green & gold jigs seem to be very productive in nz along with purple jigs
i had most success using jigging master and broken arrow jigs
as for the rod i would look at a jigging master three kings special or the powerspell range
atleast 300gms if your after the big guys you want to be running pe8 with some good 120lb fluro leader
learn how to tie the pr knot and only use high end terminal tackle
i cant wait to get back to NZ only a few more months

thats a smelly old pike
im told there great live bait for big kings but the only thing ive ever caught on live pike is a even bigger pike
-
sounds like your doing every thing right
what are you using for live bait my guess is yakkas ???
put the time and effort in and spend a few hr's getting live squid
the kings should be all over the reef systems out there put down a big live squid and its sure to get nailed
there is no need to venture out to the fads for the kings they should all be in close
you can also get kings without a downrigger just rig up a poormans rigger using a big 400gm knife jig
if you still have no luck drive over to church point and pick me up and ill help you find some fish
-
do you have the correct transducer setup in your settings in the hds unit
and for deeper water isn't a faster ping ideal you want faster returns not slower ??
-
you really should get her some swimming lessons too
if you plan on being around the water its a skill you cant go without
-
THIS BOAT YOU HAV IN THESE PICS ...IS IT A "MONARK" HULL? IT LOOKS THE SAME AS MINE.. i MIGHT DO THE SAME
nope shes a arrowcraft
and these leds dont use much power at all
you could have them running all night and not worry about draining your battery
-
congrats mate shes a beaut
are you going to leave the bimini on this one ??
got any photos of what she looks like inside and what electronics do u plan on sticking in her
lets got and catch some marlin
-
here is my boat all lit up total cost was under $70
-

that splitter above is for TV signals. It lets you connect 1 antenna to 2 TVs. TVs are PASSIVE receiving devices, which is why this is OK.
If you connect two radios via a splitter and transmit using one of them then that power is being forced into the front end of the other radio, and will quite possibly damage it. I recommend you talk to someone who knows radios better, I doubt it's a good idea to have a setup like that.
The splitters whitworths have are for using your VHF antenna for AM/FM reception, they have a choke/RF filter in them to stop RF power being fed into your AM/FM radio which is why you can use them without damaging the AM/FM radio.
Geoff is correct
i use the same splitter shown above to split my foxtel cable so i can have my cable modem and cable tv from the one point in my room

was some time ago
the US made ones are alot more solid
but ive had one of the china made ones for a few yrs and had zero issues with it
great reel and a great price
as for the fisher vs baitrunner all depends on what your fishing for
i use a 750ssm on a 7foot rod for throwing big sluggos at kings and also use it on one of my downriggers
works a treat

yeh i've heard plenty of reports of dollies down south but none up north so their starting up now i reckon and the big ones should be here soon. And how do you target the perch out there, they could be what were showing up on the sounder but not taking the jigs.
the perch will hold tight to the bottom we had them upto about 30mtrs off the bottom
slimey/yakka fillets on a paternoster rig did the damage
we marked good soundings of kings they just didnt want the jigs or the livies
-
nice work
jigging out wide at terrigal is slowing right up
fished it last week and they didnt take to the jigs at all ended up ditching them and just nailed the perch instead
good to hear about the dollies showing up might be time to go check out some of the private fads
-
oww is that what fisheries officers look like
