  1. omg ur a genious i been looking for all types of crazy ways to keep my pre made rigs lol i didnt even think of doing that. Thanks Cheers Cory
  2. i also heard of a guy catching a nice cobia in the lake aswell recently, and also heard lots of stories of people chumming up sharks around pullbah island.
  3. that is really awful, what happens when they pick on the wrong fisherman? the one tool almost all fisherman carry close is a knife, id think it was a dumb idea to pick on one. Cheers Cory
  4. bonus with stockton breakwall is that even if your not catching anything you get to watch some huge ass coal ships get pulled into the port, its pretty interesting to watch i found. Cheers Cory
  5. hey mate i live about 10 minutes from swansea caravan park, the swansea water way is beautiful along with the lake, cant comment on the fishing for the moment but will be able to next week, but im sure people are catching plenty in the channel and around pullbah island in the lake. the area around the caravan park is great, ive gone there before and just sat back and relaxed and done some landbased fishing, not that ive caught much landbased there but its still a beautiful place. the only thing is that swansea channel might get a little crowded during the holidays but if you dont mind that then its all good. Cheers Cory
  6. Hey all All this talk about black fish has made me think about trying it out, But i dont know where to collect weed or fish for them, i dont want to go as far as the entrance, but im close to swansea, or budgewoi or anywhere like that, im actually located in summerland point so closer to that the better. i seen alot of people fishing for them under the bridge at budgewoi but im not sure where they get their weed or cabbage from. any help would be awsome. Cheers Cory
  7. yeh try pullbah for sure, swansea channel and pullbah are the spots i hear people catching the most fish in, see if you can find yourself a water way map and youll find it easy. Cheers Cory
  8. When i first got my calcutta every cast i did it would bust up, so i just spent a few hours in the back yard with an old lure with the hooks cut off it and just casted it and i put a bucket on the other end of the yard and just kept practising until i had a good rate of getting into the bucket, now i have no probelms using it at all. I think they are harder to use if they are smaller because i have a bigger cheaper baitcaster and i never had no probelm casting with the 25Lb mono. another tip is to never let your finger off the spool, always lightly keep it on there when casting or it will normally cause you hassle Cheers Cory
  9. Some times the jettys at summerland point can be pretty productive and other times they can produce absolutly nothing lol, but i guess all fishing is like that, either way its still a nice way to spend a day looking over the lake Cheers Cory
  10. Hey I live in Summerland point, so just around the corner from where you are staying im pretty sure and for boat spots swansea channel is a very nice fishing spot, i cant give you to much detail as its been years since ive been in a boat in there but its always pretty productive for fish just be careful in there it can be a dangerous waterway for people who dont know it. Swansea Channel is also great for landbased in places, the water runs fast there in alot of places so just have a look around and ull find some places to fish. A nice little place to spend a day is if you drive to swansea and when you get to the big round about out front of maccas turn right and go to the end of that road then left, keep driving down there and youll find a carpark theres a nice rock wall there and a good rock fishing spot just a walk around the point. If you dont wanna travel to swansea then youll still find plenty of spots in the lake that will be good fishing just by looking at them, maybe try the power station outlet near summerland point aswell ive heard thats good. If you need any more info about the area let me know and ill tell ya what i can. Cheers Cory
  11. I cant give you to many tips because i spent 3 days fishing the breakwall and only caught a small tailor lol thats how hopeless i am, but i did notice at the end of the breakwall it is very snaggy i want using pilchad on gang hooks with a sinker and i was getting snagged all the time so i was thinking maybe a float rig of some sort? or not heavily weighted. Its quite a long walk so u might want to pack light, i seen alot of the locals there with push bikes set up with all fishing gear and rods etc to ride out to their spots, some even had like trailors on their pushys to carry there tackle. If you find the right spot and set up out there you will love it i loved it even when i didnt catch a fish, just watching the massive boats come into port is cool. Cheers Cory
  12. ok thats awsome ty, it might not be the best quality bait but it would be alright for me when i just wanna pick up a rod on short notice and have a fish. Cheers Cory P.s do i scale and Gut the fish first before filleting?
  13. can you do this with Tailor fillets? and are they worth using as bait?
  14. hey mate ive never done it so i cant really give you any tips but there is a great article on the site here that tell you how to do it in this link Here
  15. Airator in an esky is easy way to go to start off mate, buy an airator from your local tackle store, one that takes batteries they dont cost much at all and just throw the stone end in the water and let it go and youll be sweet for a few hours until u need to change water.
  16. i cant see why not, i keep em alive in a big bucket with a single battery powered airator so that i can carry them down the beach because i fish land based.
  17. I normally try to go out early if on the lake, landbased or by boat so the winds normally not to high at the earlier times, In lake maquarie just try different spots, around pullbah island or in coves or anything that might block the wind off on that day and just cross your fingers. Cheers Cory
  18. FOTM has been closed down since december unfortunatly
  19. Hey everyone I was just reading an article in a fishing Mag about shark fishing from the beach responsibly of course and ive never done Game at all so im not familiar with the gear. what i have gathered from a first look is that im gonna need like 30 or 40lb mono Line, im thinking a 10 - 12ft rod (not sure what rating it should be?) and i read that about a metre or two of wire trace. is there anything else anyone would suggest for this as i might try this in the future. Also what kind of gear am i going to need to use wire trace and whats the cheapest way to do it? Cheers Cory
  20. Ok cheers mate, ill try for some squid next time im there for sure. i was thinking of using a float or something like that, i havent been game enough to wonder onto the rocks around the coast and these ones i seen were fairly safe last time i was there so i thought it might be a good start. i might have a look around the coast i know there is alot of other quality rock fishing places, just need a good one to start out on! Cheers Cory
  21. Good luck Roberta, I Hope all goes well and i cant wait to read the report afterwards =) Good on Ya Cheers Cory
  22. Hey all I was wondering if anyone has ever fished this spot at Swansea before off the rocks (Marked Below), i havent ever done much rock fishing so im not sure if thats a decent spot or not but last time i looked at it when i was walking around there is looked fairly safe to begin with. I was also wondering what type of rigs to use for rock fishing, and do i use Livies and can i catch Livies near the rocks? The reason i ask about living is that last time i was in swansea all i could catch was those little sweep things for live bait and i dont know if they are to good. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated Cheers Cory
  23. haha well after a few hours without fresh water who knows what i might of been talking to or making friends with lol

    Beach Fishing

That advice is most likely the best you will get, only thing i can add to it is if you can find a high vantage point on the beach to look down at the water then spend anywhere from 10minutes to 30minutes watching the waves and seeing where holes are etc, when you get down on the beach things normally look alot different and ive found can make it harder. Also you will be able to see a gutter by watching a wave if you see the wave to full (or Fat) to break in one area but its breaking in another then your best bet is that the area not breaking is a Hole, Sometimes you may even be fishing a gutter at your feet so you dont always need a cast a mile either. Another way of seeing a gutter is if a wave Breaks and then it reforms and breaks again, inbetween the breaks there is a good chance is a hole or gutter. Cheers Cory

    Beach Fishing

when i first started beach fishing i only used pilly on a Gang hook rig and have had great success with that ever since, when i first started and didnt want to spend to much money on it before i seen if i liked it i would buy these Surecatch Gang hook rigs that came in a little packet like wrapped around a circle peice of cardboard in the packet from any Tackle store for about 3 Bucks each, this was cheaper because i didnt have to buy Leader line, because the rig comes with everything you just need to tie it on. If you want more info then let me know and ill see what i can pull up
