    Overheating

Hi all, i have a johnson 115hp 2000 model which started overheating yesterday. Once home i noticed no water was coming out when flushed so im assuming impeller or water pump. I undid the bolts for the leg but it wont drop. There is a rod attached to the leg so it looks like i have to disconnect this from the motor to drop the leg ? is this correct? Thanks in advance for any comments.
  3. I would be draining it to see how much water is in there, and then look for where the water came from. I had same prob and ended up taking the fuel tank out and draining it. ( my seperator looked just like yours )
  4. I CUT OUT SOME MARINE PLY, SCREWED THE PUMP TO THAT AND GLUED THAT TO THE HULL. AS ABOVE MAKE SURE IT IS TO THE SIDE OF THE BUNG AND ALSO MAKE IT AS LEVEL AS POSSIBLE.

    SPARK PLUGS

Hi all, thought i would share a recent experience buying new plugs for my motor. I phoned a reputable dealer and was quoted $60 for 4 new plugs. Thinking this was a bit expensive i phoned a local Repco store and was qouted $20 for the same thing. I find this sort of mark up totally disgusting and wonder how the dealer can justify this sort of profiteering. Perhaps Huey might like to shed some light on this topic.
  8. [buy a 12v pie walker and enjoy a hot lunch on a cold day. You won't have an issue with the batteries as you maintain themquote name=David (AKA fisherdad)' timestamp='1273352227' post='356051] A12V pie walker ??? Is that similiar to a dog walker ???
  9. I did same a few years back. Sandblast, etch primer and then paint, came up a treat. From memory the blasting cost me a carton of beer
  10. Thats my home ground.Just follow the markers as the channel gets quite narrow just passed pretty beach, then goes across to Ettalong and back again. If the swell is up id go behind Lion Island and across.
  11. $300 for a cable ???? I just replaced my cable , helm and bezel for just over $200 on a 6.5 mtr boat.

    Near Disaster

Fuel wont affect the fibreglass, just makes sure it gets a good clean and all will be fine
  14. Have to agree, easyguides make life so much easier. All it takes is drilling 6 holes to install. I had to move my boat ( 6.5mtr half cab ) back to accomadate the rollers but it was easy to do with the help of a neighbour.
  15. I have been told that teflon sleds are best for alloy boats and rollers are best for glass boats. Makes sense when you think about it. I think the rollers would dent the alloy in spots. Cheers

    Fuel Spill

I decided to fill my fuel tank right up, which i havent done before. The next thing i knew there was fuel spilling out the bung holes. My first thought was that i had filled up the rod holders , but on further investigation i realised the fuel had come out of the breather hose which runs to the back of the boat. Is this where the breather hose normally goes ? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  18. Great fun taking off old steering wheels. Lots of penetrating oil and persistence should get it off. The wheel is held on with a woodruff key on the taper ( which stops the wheel turning around on the taper ) this is where it normally gets stuck. Anyway good luck.
  19. Hi, im by far the sharpest tool in the shed but had the same prob as you. A new fuel sender is fairly inexpensive and quite easy to fit. Basic boat wiring is quite easy with an $20 multimeter.I did a web search under boat wiring and found easy to follow diagrams to print off. Its really not as complicated as it seems at first. There are also a few books around on boat wiring which are quite good as well.

    Steering

I have a 6.5 mtr seafarer approx 20 years old running a 2000 modle johno 115with very heavy steering. Its a single cable job and obviously needs upgrading.Anybody have any ideas without spending lots of money i dont have ???
  21. I have to agree with Tuffy there, i have experienced a cooked motor and the overheating alarm didnt go off and it wasnt good, maintenance maintenance and more maintenance. Happy boating
  22. Many thanks to the lads at Huett marine for rebuilding my johno 115, a great job at a good fishraider price. Its a pleasure to deal with someone you can trust and holds customer satisfaction with such high regard and would highly recommend to anybody - the best form of advertising in my books. Cheers guys PS i was in no way paid or influinced by huey for making this post, but i do expect a huge discount on next purchase. lol

    Boating Mishaps

Ok its been long enough now i can tell the story. After a nights fishing we were hooking up my 6.5 mtr half cab at patonga ramp. The handbrake wasnt strong enough to hold the boat and the car started to inch towards the water.I asked my mate if the boat was all hooked up as i was still in the boat and he said yes, so he got in the car and drove it up the ramp,at the peak of the ramp the winch let go and we ended up with the boat on the ramp, he didnt hook up the safety chain grr.Anyway about 15 blokes later we managed to get the boat back on the trailer. quite funny indeed

    Boat Trailers

Thats what i meant to say - retriever mate. Was i bit of messing around to fit but well worth the time spent doing so. You can bring your tub in at an angle and it will centre your boat beautifully.
