  1. Good to hear the Marlin are on in Port Stephens! I'm up on Saturday, Sunday and Monday for 3 days chasing them ....can't wait
  2. You are a legend... exactly what I was after (including what gulps etc.) last year my mate used gulp and I used slam, the score was exactly 50/50..
  3. Im heading to Tuross this weekend for a long weekend fish. Will be hitting the beach for jewies/Salmon at night and flicking soft plastics for Flatties and bream in the lake during the days... Anyone know how it's fishing at the moment? this time last year it was going nuts on the lake
  4. you can use an electric motor without a permit though..
  5. I live in the ACT, to God's Country... Unfortunately the main fishing in the lake is Reddies and Carp (in plague proportions). For Carp, use a small hook with dough, for reddies I use a size 1 celta spinner (fluefox) and it never fails, I have pulled out 20 in one sitting. Apparently there are Cod and Yellow's in there as well, and the are caught on spinner baits, but I haven't had any luck in that particular lake. I have caught cod in lake tuggeranong though.

  7. Any ideas for a home made Yabbie net/cage/box etc? I want to catch some yabbies for bait and for my pet fish (maybe even my dinner if they are big enough). I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to catch them, that doesn't require me purchasing an opera net etc.?
  8. Thanks guys, Im picking up a box of crickets to feed them today. Have been feeding them worms so far. I live in Canberra, all the pet shops I've been to so far don't sell natives, and have no idea what to feed them. So anyway, the plan is to set up a worm farm (maybe a cricket one as well) and get some yellows and bass together in the tank and get rid of the pest reddies
  9. thanks for that, do you think I could put a yellowbelly or bass or anything in with them?
  10. Hi Guys, wasn't sure which forum to put this in, so feel free to move it if I'm not right. I got myself a freshwater tank (4x1.5x1.5) on the weekend, so went down to the lake to see if I could catch some new pets. I was hoping for a yellow belly, but got 5 redfin instead. Any ideas on what to feed them? There are only so many worms and bugs I can catch. Was thinking of setting up a worm farm. BTW the plan is to eventually have a cod, is this tank big enough? Any ideas for other natives?
  11. Hi guys, I got a frozen bag of Blue Grenadier fillets from woolies. The other night I wrapped a piece in foil with some herbs and butter, and it tasted pretty ordinary . Last night I marinated a piece in tandoori and just grilled it on the bbq, it wasn't too bad. Any other ideas for these fish? I don't know much about them... http://www.austmus.gov.au/fishes/fishfacts...h/mnovaezel.htm
  12. Hey mate, I was actually looking at similar charters in the area... Is there a website for the charter company?
  13. Hi Tom, were you camping across the other side to the caravan park?... we were camping at the caravan park and just went down to the shore which kind of turns into a river, near the boat ramp. We actually had a terrible weekend with just about no result I wasn't sure if it was because of the spot we chose, or the weather or gear or what... Now i guess it was the gear and maybe spot, we were using brighter colour tazzie devils (because it was quite overcast) like the pinks and bright greens, but got nothing. We also found that every single cast brought back weed and grass on the lure (which is obviously not going to get anything...) So maybe we weren't in a good spot.. Did you get any on the lures? There was a guy trolling his tinny and hooking up right in front of us, which was annoying

If fishing around mangroves, then make sure you have a really fast retireve.. thats why you need really strong line, you don't want him to run into the mangroves and tangle you up.
  15. hmmm, not too sure.. but a couple of months ago, I caught a few of tailor, Salmon and a heap of port jackson sharks off Marua break wall and it was absolutely pissing down the whole time..
  16. Excellent thats the answer I was looking for, I'll let you know how I go.. I wouldn't have thought it was a good time either, but a couple of mates killed it 2 weeks ago... so i guess we'll see.. Thanks!
  17. Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone knows how ecumbene has been going lately. It looks like I'm going camping there this weekend. I reckon with the drop in temperature it should go allright this weekend so am planning on heading up with my mate and both of our :wife: I am planning on sticking a rod in with power bait or Mudeyes... any ideas on rigs? I will also flick lures from the shore with my other rod and wondered what colour tazzie devils are working at the moment, or spinners etc... Thanks guys!
  18. Thanks for the map grebbo, heading out in my mates tinny tomorrow. BTW - caught a heap of carp last night at Red Rock George (Kambah Pool). Also got a small trout-cod, I couldn't believe it.
  19. Nice work Grebbo, I fished LBG all weekend as well. A mate and I were just flicking spinners at the edge of the lake and walking them along the walls out the front of the sailing club. We ended up with about 30-40 redfin all very small. All I seem to be able to get is reddies out of that lake Can I ask how you got the yellowbelly? lure or bait? Cheers Steve
  20. My mate caught this salmon in Tuross on "one tree" beach. Thats a 1m ruler ruler next to it, the fish must be at least 85cm I reckon!!
  21. Me and a mate got a tinnie on Tuross lake two weeks ago. He was using Gulp minnows and I was using slams. Both of us were using the exact same retrieve method (double jump) and very similar colours. We had a great result, of 6 flatheads between 45 and 55 cm. We both got three each, with mine the biggest I reckon Gulp and Slam are much of a muchness
  22. Cheers - yeah it's quite a small one called Bonython pond
  23. Hi Guys, Thought I would show this picture of a murray cod I got in one of Canberra's many man-made lakes. I was using a small single blade spinner and was throwing it at a half submerged log in the water a few times, all I was getting was small redfin. I then tried into open water with no structure and then all of a sudden my rod doubled over. I have fished a lot in this area and never managed to land a cod. Needless to say I through him back to be caught another day
