  1. gday guys as the heading says, im heading down to the kangaroo valley near berry for a week just after new years, just wanted to know if there is anywhere to fish around there. i think 7 mile beach isnt to far from where we are staying but wanted to know if there are any bays or calmer water to fish ?

    cheers guys.

  2. mate i dont even bother with big squid jigs 1.8g and under always gets the buggers going. dosnt really matter wat time of the day if there they will take the jig (best thing bout a boat is u can try different spots till u find the rite 1). single 7/0 hook through the tail end of the squid and drop it down just keep it off the bottom, i usually keep it half way between the sea bed and the boat.

wat rig u use depends on wat your after.

swordy i'd love to take em out but i got a 4.8mt bowrider and a list of people waiting.

no squid pm me your number and stuff and if i have a spare spot next week i'll take u along.

hopefully another raider can help u out aswell.

  3. gday guys looking at doing an arvo-night session this saturday in botany bay chasing kings and salmon and maybe back up river 2 see if we can get jews later at night.

my question is where abouts around la perouse or anywhere int the bay for that matter does everybody go to get some squid, i havnt really tried to get squid in the bay so any info would be great.

    cheers hamerz.

  4. gday i bought the esky of jewgaffer today and i cant say i have met a more decent bloke on a forum before.

after i picked up the esky from a mate of his, i rang him to say thanks and we ended up sitting on the phone for just under an hour talking fishing, boating, tides and a few other things.

he's an extremely insightful fella and took abit a time out of his day to teach a novice fisho a thing or 10.

cant wait to get out on the water again and try to put his theory's to the test.

thanks again byron it was a pleasure meeting you, and hopefully 1 day we can get out there together for a fish.

    cheers hamerz. :thumbup::thumbup:

  5. thanks for the input guys, how much line on your spool is enough line for kings ??? or is this a case of "how longs a bit of string" ?

and i dont mind either eggbeater or overhead.

    thanks.

  6. gday guys been thinking about putting a kingy set-up together for a while now,

thing is i kept getting kingy hook-ups on my light gear in the harbout last summer while i was chasing the smaller species the harbour holds on my light gear.

my question is what would u all recommend for me. please be specific with rod weights and reel size's and also what size main line and leader please. because i dont want to get this wrong. alot of my lighter gear is daiwa and pflueger.

im looking at spending around the $600 mark for my new rig.

p.s my fishing is boat based.

    thanks in advance.

  7. gday guys bought a few new vibes and poppers today, 1st time ive ventured into the world of hard bodies just wanted to know if someone can pointme in the right direction in regards to fishing landbased around the georges river ? and wat sort of places to target like structure sand banks or whatever info will help me with the lures. been playing wih soft plastics for a while now and had some pretty good success on them. cheers and thanks in advance.

  8. Hey Hamerz

Iceman nailed it for a simple rig for you.

Have done it myself and works quite effectively.

Oh, and also don't ever forget if drifting for Flatties to have one out.

Not only will you get your target Flatties but many other species as well.

    Cheers

    Trapper T

yeh thanks mate when drifting though do u put em on a patanosta or jig head ?

    cheers.

The way you caught the reddie is the way to do it but put SPs on both hooks on the paternoster rig stick the rod in a rod holder and let the motion of the boat work the SPs for you then you can work another rod with bait

thanks heaps mate it sounds pretty logical really lol.

    cheers.

I've seen on a couple of NZ sites what they call cyclops heads for SP's. These are round leadheads with metal loops that you attach to an SP using a split ring and worm hook. The sizes are from 2 to 4 ounces which is roughly 50 to 100 grams. They reckon that that these are the go for deep water use.

I'm going to source some and give them a try.

    Cheers

    Rob

sounds good mate let us no how u go with em and let us no if its easy to find em, i'll have a sticky beak aswell and see wat i come up with.

    cheers.

  9. hi guys i was out fishing on the weekend just outside of south head in the harbour. we were ctaching mowies and small snapper on pilchards using a patanosta rig.

i had my soft plastics with so i decided to throw i 5inch jerk shad on the bottom hook and i managed to catch a keeper snapper (37cm) purely by fluke,

now my question is how do you actually fish using soft plastics in deeper water ? we were in about 70ft of water.

i didnt have any jigs heads with me so i couldnt try the traditional way would that have worked ?

or is there a special technique for soft plastics in deeper water ?

    cheers hamerz.

  10. yeh guys it was at the thames st wharf got the fella on a bit of mullet strip. we were undecided as 2 where we wanted 2 go so we ended up there not a bad little spot.

  11. went for a land based sessinon with a couple of mates tonight. headed down 2 a spot we fish in balmain, first cast and i came up with this bream it went 40cm,

not much else after that just little snappers and a few more little bream. good night out.
