hi everyone

being new n' all to this forum and continuing with the recent etiquette trend,

what are acceptable and non acceptable comments, replies etc if any?

i know there will be a standard repy from one of the admin members on etiquette, but basically, what makes a good or bad topic?

Cheers

My two cents:

Steer away from the following:

  • making comments that are overly critical of a particular fishing style or practice (cause someone on this site will undoubtedly use that style or practice and then get offended)
  • Making any comment critical of keeping legal length fish, or taking a bag limit - some fishermen like to catch and release but many don't, and are well within their rights not to. This rule applies DOUBLE when you're discussing flatties!!
  • Asking for too much, too soon - personally I dislike it when new members inundate the site with requests for fishing info without first posting a few reports/giving a few tips of their own. You gotta give love to get love.
  • giving away details of secret fishing locations - if someone reports a great jewfishing session don't bloody ask them what river location/beach they were at cause if they didn't tell you the first time, they don't want to tell you (even if they do then other fishermen who fish that beach will likely get the shits). Equivalently, if you have a ripper session at a new spot think carefully before you post the details of that spot here - others who fish there may not be thrilled if you make it public knowledge. Exceptions to this rule are the well known spots, like Sydney Harbour/Botany locations, Juno and Stockton etc.
  • excessive bragging about your fishing prowess - no-one likes a boaster.

All the fights I've seen on this forum (not that there are many) have been due to one of the above issues.

Otherwise, just keep it friendly and informative and you can't go far wrong!!

I'll do the standard reply if you like. Read the site rules & abide by them & you won't have any problems. The rules are enforced here. Is that a standard enough reply for you?

and continuing with the recent etiquette trend
err which trend is that?

The rules are here Site Rules

I am still fairly new here and trust me you can learn alot from the fisherman here, there are all types of fisho's here, Jew chasers, flattie specialist, king kings. You can learn alot but as stated previously, dont ask for too much without contributing first, just keep an eye on the posts and you will learn alot.

Welcome to the site

G'day Crippo,

What makes a good topic - some common sense and photos.

If you tread on someone's toes - common courtesy [don't push it]

I've been here longer than most and my understanding of the aims of the site is to help as many as it can - so if you have some questions, think them through applying some logic, and ask away!
