Guest Saqa
G'day Raiders Fished the Cowan system today with George S. in his boat. We launched at ATB about 7:30am and made our way to Shark Rock Point area. After locating a nice droppoff we anchored up and George prepared some of his secret berley. The plan was to fish sp's in the trail. We set a pair of 8kg outfits out the back of the boat with big plastics weighed down with spoon sinkers and hopeing that the tails were working nicely in the current. Once the gamble tackle was set and forgotton we started working 3 inch minnows and similar in the trail which proved to be quite good tactic. We landed a 2 keeper flatties and 2 undersized ones (released) but the thumper trevs stole the show. We were fishing 4lb outfits and the trevs gave them a good workout. We managed to land 7 solid specimens which had the drags singing. Mixed in this lot were two keeper bream. The fish were plucking at the lures very timidly but once the hook found its mark they exploded into action. Unfortunatly nothing wanted to play with the big plastics but there is always the next time. By the way George did get a couple of just undersize snapper on plastics (released). After catching enough keepers for dinner for our fish hungry family members we pulled the pick and headed upstream past Bobin head were there are extensive flats for some hardbody flaty action. The recents rains had clouded the water up and we had a very hard time making out the weed bed edges. George did manage to land a little one here on a modified colour 65mm pak ratz (released). We had a ball today and I am heading back out there on Sat with a heavy livebait outfit to see if any Jews are around and for round two with the trevs Edited September 13, 2006 by Saqa

wrasseman
great stuff, sounds like an action packed session. It amazes me how softly those trevs will hit a lure and yet how hard they go when hooked. cheers col.
