Shimano Reels

Recommended Posts

I have just bought a couple of Shimano reels and in their recommended maintenance sheet which was enclosed in the box, they say I should 'Spray with a water displacing lubricant'. This I would assume to be a product such as WD 40.

I remember reading somewhere (I think it was this site but I couldn't find it on a search) that WD 40 on reels was a BIG no-no as it could cause serious damage.

Can anyone remember this discussion or can offer any thoughts on using WD 40 on reels?

Cheers,

I try not to use WD 40 on anything. It just dries everything out. it tends to dissolve grease, evaporate, and take everything with it.
