Botany Bay 18/12/06

Hi raiders 2 mates and i fished Botany Bay y/day arfternoon,

was a bit windy but we were desperate.

Tried to go beyond the heads but turned back in as it was pretty rough.

Fished near Bare island for some undersize Snaps.

Then tried 3rd runway for a constant supply of 30-46cm Flatties,

afta 30mins my 2nd rod goes off, a long slow zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I grab the rod and I slowly start to retrieve some line,I call it for a PJ

as,I get it near the boat and see a metre plus easy, Mulloway. :1yikes:

George whos on the landing net realises that its too small for this fish and

ditches it in favour of the gaff,as hes scurrying around the boat the Jew

takes a dive down and away from us and towards one of the yellow markers.

George pulls up the anchor quick, and Bill takes the wheel and starts up the

boat, and the chase is on.For the next hour and a half we chased this fish

around the Bay,and it just kept going and going.Whenever we thought we

were gona boat him he would just rip some more line from my reel.I kept

slowly nipping up the drag I did this 16 times(yes i kept count) and thought

somethings gota give, this guy was not tiring but my arms were, but the boys

in the boat kept egging me on,(I think they found it funny).Every time I

took a bit of a rest, the fish would notice the pressure was off and go again :ranting2:

Anyway to cut a long story short,on the fishes 2nd attempt at swimming into

Brotherson dock, the damn hook pulled. :05: If u were fishin the Bay Monday

and u heard AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH,

that was me.George described the incident as sex without the org*#m.

We went to Larpa for a feed and to relax a little, then had a little fish at

Moll pt and nearly lost our anchor there, but eventualy got it unstuck, and took

off for home.

At least you got to have a look at that beauty and you got a decent run for your money  and it wasnt a Port Jacko :074: .

Nice report

Cheers Stewy

I thought I was about to smash the Port Jacko record untill we saw that

silver colour cum up to the boat :074:

and we were very glad that we at least got to see it.

I would of jumped in and wrestled with it. Knife clenched in between my teeth and all.

Like you said at least you got to see it. Otherwise you would of been lying in bed going I wander what it was, I wander what it was. At least now you can say f%3$ I lost the damn jewie.

How well did the flattie taste with the sandal??

At least now your G'd up for the next session.

Well done, better luck next time.

Bad luck Penguin. After 90 minutes, you expect the bugger to tire but he must have had his weeties that morning to have that much fight left in him.

I bet your arms are sore today.

Good consolation prize with the flattie.

Cheers,

Pete.

1.5 hours is a long time to be fighting a jew !!! Looks like you had a bit of pressure on it too, what gear were you using?

Mate I was using for the 1st time 6kg Fluoro carbon line,

and im impressed with it,it held a lot more than 6kg I can

tell you.

90 minutes on a jewfish is a long time and to then have the hook pull is a real let down.

What line class were you fishing and what bait???

Nice flathead you got there for dinner

Cheers

Balt was a peeled Endeaver prawn

6kg Line and a metre Jew? Something not right there! You sure your drag was set correctly!

It should only take 5-10min max! Not even sometimes!

After one run they are generally knackered! With 9kg line, it took us 10min to get a 32kg!

Anyway i'm spewing for ya!

i always thought that jewies go for one big run and then die in the rear and by the time they come to the boat ,they seem like they are pretty much dead on the water. i got that impression by watching some fishing dvds.

who knows. if so i feel for you mate, pitty it wasnt landed.

better luck next time mate.

Mate I almost had no drag at all in the end,and thats y the hook pulled,

every time it looked like this Jew was expired, and we nearly had him in,

he would see the boat and just use his big tail and slowly swim away with

my line.

We all agreed he was about 1.3 metres in length, and I was on him

for 1hr 32mins,I know this bcoz Bill had just made a ph call on his mobile,

when i hooked him,and Bills ph had recorded the time of the call.

We were amazed and kept thinking that this fish should expire soon, but he

didnt give up,he was getting easier to control toward the end,but I just got the

shits and went for it and lost him.

Doesnt bother me know though I had fun,and he fully earned his freedom in

the end.
