One word = Paternoster rig the hook trace 60cm above the sinker this way the squid stays off the bottom
RPL
One word = Paternoster rig the hook trace 60cm above the sinker this way the squid stays off the bottom But for casting is it always the best option? And also should i be using like a little ring so that the line runs up and down the main line?
Chris 55
Why do you want to cast if your on a boat unless your spinning lures For bait fishing you only need to lower it in and if you want to increase your fishing area then let the boat drift Paternoster is still able to be cast but not like when you throw lures I just use a good quality swivel to connect the leader to the mainline

skramp_84
I fish land-based, what do you think the ebst rig is for land based? As I obviosly need to cast the squid a fair distance at times.
Guest IFishSick.
The only way to rig a live squid is with a sliding snell rig. Off a boat lower it down with a 1m trace and a weight above that. Let it hit the bottom then wind up 1m for Jewies or 2m for Kingies. Landbased use the sliding snell, but, use a large float letting it run to the equivilent depth as above (no weight). Edited March 8, 2007 by IFishSick. james1990
I use a 50lb trace with 2 big gun mustad hooks and a slideing snell rig, i think its called a sliding snell. Bottom hooks is fixed, the top hook slides to suit the size of your bait. cheers james
