Harbour Kings 15/03/07

It was a last minute decision to hit the water today. I called a friend to see if he was keen, he was so the golf game was cancelled.

Arrived at the ramp at 6.00 and headed straight to the bait grounds. We found the squid action a little slow, hit Balmoral for yakkas and before you knew it the tank was full with 20 or so.

Decided not to search for more squid as we had to be off the water by 11, anyway we had some frozen from a trip a couple of week’s ago.

First we went to Quarantine to try for some hoodlums; all we were able to catch was a couple of rats at 55+. We were fishing with squid strips and yakkas. The squid won the first round.

Decided to head to the wedding cake to see if I was able to repeat last Wednesday’s session with AO 7474. Sounded around to see if the fish were holding up in numbers, they seemed to be spread out as the bait had separated into a couple of schools.

With the downriggers in place we started, we both had a yakka on. The fish were showing up on the sounder but seemed a little shy to our offerings. I changed to a nice squid strip when Paolo’s yakka is smashed. A nice fight later and a 62cm landed. As Paolo was resetting his bait onto the downrigger my squid bait took of, I landed a fat 66cm model.

Decided to give the red marker a try (the old wedding cake). There was not much bait holding in the area although we sounded up some large fish in the depths. We dropped our baits for nothing. Headed back to the wedding cake and on the way back both of our baits get smashed by unstoppable fish.

We landed 3 more at at the wedding cake with the largest eing 61cm.

I wasn’t able to repeat last Wednesday’s efforts but a fantastic morning on the water and nothing beats fresh Kingies.

By the way squid won the day.

Beats working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sydney sure is fishing well and I look forward to future seasons.

Earlier this year I dropped a monster at about 1 metre and I have now dedicated my life to beating my PB of 94cm.

I am thinking of rigging my boat with internet, phone and computer as I am sure that I can run my business while I have a fishing rod in my hand.

Today I fished with 80 pound braid and 80 pound leader, the fish that smashed me had to be a shark (maybe a large king)!!!!!!!!!
