Flattieman
Can't help with the fish ID's but the red one looks like a Ocean Perch. Greg! That red fish looks like an ocean perch to me. Great blue-eye, whitecaps! Flattieman.

Blackfish
Hi Sammy, not sure if they are the same. What I did was save both to my desk top, open them and have them side by side to compare. Look at the Pec fins, tail and dorsal. Regards B.F.
Flattieman
Look at the Pec fins, tail and dorsal. Especially the caudal fin - the fish that Mark caught featured a truncate or emarginate caudal fin, whereas the bass groper has a clearly rounded caudal fin. Also, the radials in the pectoral fin of the fish that Mark caught decrease in length from the uppermost edge downwards, whereas the pectoral radials of the bass groper increase then decrease in length to support a more rounded pectoral fin structure, as opposed to the more filamentous pectoral fins of Mark's fish.
