warnie
Hi raiders My 27 meg radio a GX 294 works fine but i keep having dramas with the ariel i will be on to nbr 4 shortly that white plastic covering that protects the copper wire that spirals up the ariel keeps cracking and crazing allowing corrosion to set in....Am receiving fine, but my transmitting range has suffered once again, the VHF ariel seems unaffected. is it because i use the 27meg the most...... ive tried vaso...... uv protector.......... its parked under cover out of the sun any one got any suggestions what to try next. Frustrated Warnie
traysexy
you could try coving it in some heatshrink?? that generally has a higher UV tolerence then the hard plastics they use on the antennas. The usage of the antennas shouldn't effect that and I can't explain why it would be effected, best thing I can come up with is the heatshrink idea..... anyone have anything else??? pete
Osprey Rider
I had the same problem with mine, I got some white eletrical tape and covered the whole length of the ariel. They have been like that for 2 years now and I haven't had a problem.
OWZAT
G`day Fellas , Heat shrink is definately the Go. When My Boys were bitten by the CB Craze some years ago , I had the same Problem with the Mobile Aerials . The problem was solved when One of the Club members , A Telstra Techo - PMG ? , called into my Place and after checking the soldered Joint , shrink wrapped all our mobile Aerials . It took only seconds , but it did the Job. So , if ya know any Telstra techos , invite em around for a Barbie . Charlie Charlie Seven -Charlie Charlie Seven - Callling King Baker 6 Over .
