Sub Forum Idea.

Recommended Posts

I would like to put forward a suggestion for another section on the forum, with basic information for people who would like to do their own maintanance such as how to change and or repack wheel bearing's, how to change spark plug's etc. even an area were you can read about how to check for basic problem such as checking spark, fuel issues. Something like how you click on boat ramps then click on area but with the sub sections of wheel bearings electrical, engine issuse etc. hard to put in words what i am thinking of, a car forum I am on has a simmilar thing to what I have suggested and it is excellent for finding info.

I know there is the workshop section, I am talking about a sub forum type thing where if you think you have an electrical problem you click on electrical, if you think you have a fuel problem you click there etc. the work shop is good but I think this would make it quiker and easier to find the info you need.

Great idea mate !!

Bloody HUGE job to set up though. So many catagories to list!

I find that if I type in any problems or questions with my boat, the problem is usually sorted by other members pretty quickly. The issues with finding a problem with your boat, is that it often requires questions and answers between you and the members. This allows cluey members to slowly pinpoint the problem you actually have, as opposed to giving you generic answers that are so broad, you will waste more time hunting problems that dont exist. (like playing Dr House  )

My 2 cents worth,

Cheers,

Stumpy :biggrin2:

Wow, what a mature response- I had better go and take a nap!

It is good to have access to info like that.

We could have millions of different sub forums really.

I think it would be better for members to access this stuff on specialist forums tho. As stumpy says members usually answer queries quickly on here about most things.

We have to keep the site predominently fishing otherwise we could get right :offtopic:

Thanks for suggestion :biggrin2:

Cheers mrsswordfisherman

I understand what has been said, I was more going along the lines of when its 430 am, and boat wont start and you would like to know the basic's of what to check, that way you could come back home quick check of fuel line's etc and maybe save the day, instead of waiting all weekend only to find out monday morning it was the primer bulb or spark plug's.

sort of off-topic; as i read this, i thought maybe a "How To" reference section would be good to compliment the workshop? instead of having things like works in progress etc, maybe have a forum dedicated to the 'how to's of fishing' kind of thing.

people can post tutorials or videos, such as copies of jewgaffer's 'how to strike on a jew run' or netics 'how to rig up squid strips for downrigging' threads could go in there. and it would be admins who decide what goes in there, only the best of the best kind of thing. particularly with videos, words explain, but nothing works like being shown infront of you (either video or in real life). i know some things which come so simply for me now, were such a struggle in the past, like catching yellowtail for example.

Oh stumpy be careful I know where you live :biggrin2: and can also easily pass your number onto the night shift at the hospital to call you every hour on the hour. In fact I have lots of friends in many hospitals - imagine that, constant calls all night from nurses.................... :074::074::074:

Thanks sebastian all great ideas. This would take a lot of work to set up. One day when swordie and I retire from our real jobs we could do it

We could perhaps set up an area called something like - "best of the best posts". If members nominate the post to be put into that section then we could move it in. Eventually it would be full of useful info posts but would need further sub foruming for easy retrieval, a little like your favourites list.

Members could start their own "favourites list" - in your "My Controls" there is a notepad where you may copy and paste the link to the post for future reference. Just add the link and click "update" and there it will remain until you remove it. Perhaps some people already do this?

Fishraider is an extremely active forum as you may have noticed. Eventually we will need a specialist "e-librarian" to keep the info in an easily retrievable format :biggrin2:
