robeebee
on the water just after 6.00 am and head for the runway sounder showing lots of activity down deep started our drift with a nor-wester guiding us towards moll pt Dad hooks up first today ( thank god ) and on his 4 pound stick battles with a good sized Whiting after quite a while i finally get a hit and its a good fish , pulling line on my 6 pound get it to about 20 feet and before i can get a look at it , the hook pulls , bugger about 5 mins later i get another strike , similar fight to the last one , Trevally ? same thing , get it near the boat and pulled the hook , soft mouths ? next cast a good solid hook-up and i finally land a nice Bream a couple of minutes later i get a small Snapper that goes back to grow up all goes quiet so we head over to the oil wharf , zip drifted Watts reef for a couple of dropped fish head over to Towra and threw some poppers for a waste of an hour wind changed yet again so we headed for Lady Robinsons we have been on the water for a long time by now and were getting tired but the fish were starting to bite , we start to boat a lot of small Flatties Dad then lands a 40 cm model and things are looking up we come back in tight on the beach in about 8 feet of water i change over to my little 4 pound stick and 1/8 jighead with ,you guessed it a turtleback gulp worm a few casts later and it gets smashed by what i think was a large Bream pulled line for about 5 seconds but i dropped it , it hit again but no hook up came back in close again and i strike , doesn't feel much at first then it goes dead weight i'm thinking a Ray , but then there is a big headshake and i say to Dad , big Flathead He grabs the net but would have to wait over 10 minutes while i struggled with this fish a couple of Ladys fishing nearby thought i had a shark and were cheering us on finally get it close and its a good fish but its not done yet and off screams my reel again eventually net it and the ladys were disappointed its not a shark , LOL we stuck around for another hour for not much , then it was my turn to clean the fish was good to be back on the Bay next fortnight we head to St Georges Basin and Jervis Bay for 3 days wish us luck

jewgaffer
Nice flathead Robbie It sounds like you had to spend time working around to get good results. Those soft mouth hook throwers may have been larger salmon do you think, they can be around be in smaller groups at times. Cheers jewgaffer
royboy
Nice flattie, mate. Several fillets in that one . Those fish you lost between the runway and mol point were most likely slimies. We also lost a few near the boat on sunday but managed to catch some. Cheers.
jenno64
Nice flatty Robbie, I haven't cracked one over 60cm this past summer but I like fishing in this calm weather and I think there might be a big lizard or two still lurking....good luck on your trip
